Recently, smartphone usage has increased tremendously, and smartphones are being used as a requirement of daily life, equally by all age groups. Smartphone operating systems such as Android and iOS have made it possible for anyone with development skills to create apps for smartphones. This has enabled smartphone users to download and install applications from stores such as Google Play, App Store, and several other third-party sites. During installation, these applications request resource access permissions from users. The resources include hardware and software like contact, memory, location, managing phone calls, device state, messages, camera, etc. As per Google’s permission policy, it is the responsibility of the user to allow or deny any permissions requested by an app. This leads to serious privacy violation issues when an app gets illegal permission granted by a user (e.g., an app might request for granted map permission and there is no need for map permission in the app, and someone can thereby access your location by this app). This study investigates the behavior of the user when it comes to safeguarding their privacy while installing apps from Google Play. In this research, first, seven different applications with irrelevant permission requests were developed and uploaded to two different Play Store accounts. The apps were live for more than 12 months and data were collected through Play Store analytics as well as the apps’ policy page. The preliminary data analysis shows that only 20% of users showed concern regarding their privacy and security either through interaction with the development team through email exchange or through commenting on the platform and other means accordingly.

Since the last few years, Android is by far the most widely utilized as an operating system for mobile devices, and this is accompanied by the development in terms of number and variety of different Android applications. Android offers a centralized market place maintained by Google named “Google Play Store,” where official and third party application developers can submit their Android applications to make them available for users. The high popularity of Android OS and its market place is becoming a worthy target by hackers and attackers to violate users’ privacy and security. Malwares were also growing in parallel with Android applications growth. It is necessary as a first step to have a solid understanding of malwares’ characteristics to help preventing potential harmful consequences. Whithin this paper, we initially present the general overview for Android OS architecture with application structure, then we highlight the popular Android security issues and focus on the existing solutions to detect and prevent Android malwares, finally, we present our point of view and suggestion for future works on the best solution to overcome the Android malwares.

BACKGROUND Third-party cloud-based data analysis applications are proliferating in eHealth because of the expertise offered and their monetary advantage. However, privacy and security are critical when handling sensitive medical data in the cloud. Technical advances, based on “crypto magic” in privacy-enhancing machine learning, enable data analysis in encrypted form for maintaining confidentiality. The adoption of such technologies could be counter-intuitive to relevant stakeholders in eHealth; more attention is needed on human factors for establishing trust and transparency. OBJECTIVE To analyze eHealth stakeholders' mental models and the perceived trade-offs in regard to data analysis on encrypted medical data in the cloud. METHODS In this study, we used semi-structured interviews and report on 14 interviews with medical, technical, or research expertise in eHealth. RESULTS Results show differences in understanding of, and in trusting, the technology; caution is advised by technical-experts, whereas safety-assurances are required by medical-expert. Concerns regarding the technology relate to the type of encryption applied and achieved confidentiality, quality of analysis results, data integrity and availability, transparency, and trust. CONCLUSIONS Understanding risks and benefits is crucial, thus collaboration among relevant stakeholders is needed. In addition, informing clinicians and patients accordingly is important for transparency and establishing trust. CLINICALTRIAL none

There are thousands of mobile apps delivering information and offering support and intervention in situations of daily life. The aim of this study was to identify the current state of apps for depressive symptoms or prevention of depression within the official Android and iOS app stores in Japan. The 47 apps for depression available for download from the app stores were evaluated by the App Evaluation Model regarding background information, risk/ privacy and security, evidence, ease of use, and interoperability. Also, we evaluated their primary purpose, technology components, and cognitive-behavioral therapy components. The results suggest that in general few apps have been developed that are evidence-based, secure, and provide the services that users expect. In the future, it will be necessary to develop a framework for developing and disseminating more effective apps. This study is the first review of apps for depression available in Japan and seeks to help create a framework for such apps.

The usage of the portable electronic devices such as the smartphones and handheld tablets has increased over the years, and this is true in the health-care industry also. This is because of the development of various patient management softwares. The use of apps to manage, educate, and inform patient is not uncommon among orthodontists nowadays. The aim of this article was to review the various apps available on the Google Play Store and iOS Apple Store for orthodontists and patients. Four smartphones using orthodontically relevant keywords such as orthodontics, orthodontists, and braces were searched and reviewed in detail. Out of the 354 orthodontically relevant apps available in both Android and Apple operating systems, the apps could be categorized as orthodontist-related apps or patient-related apps. Under these categories they could be further classified as practice managements apps, patient education apps, model analysis apps, tooth material calculators, patient reminder apps, etc.

The research aimed to describe the Madurese color lexicons with plant attributes and to analyze those lexicons metaphorically. This research engaged 18 informants to denote Madurese color lexicons by showing 139 color cards. The referential comparison method was followed by sorting the decisive element technique through referential competence-in-dividing, and Connect Compare Equate as the advanced technique was used as the data analysis method. The research finds that 53 color lexicons with plant attributes in 8 Madurese color lexicons, namely potѐ ‘white’, celleng ‘black’, mѐra ‘red’, bhiru ‘green’, konѐng ‘yellow’, cokklat ‘brown’, bhiru ‘blue’, and bungo ‘purple’. Furthermore, these plant attributes can be classified into fruits, flowers, vegetables, seeds, spices, leaves, trees, part of the tree, and part of the fruit. The domination of plant attributes in Madurese color lexicons emerges due to the sociocultural factors embodied in Madurese ethnic group itself, those are (1) farming is Madurese main way of living, (2) Madurese ethnic group respect the nature as the place where they can pray and thank God, and (3) some objects associated with color lexicons are abundantly available at their surroundings, thus they frequently use it in their daily life.
