Table olives, the number one consumed fermented food in Europe, are widely consumed as they contain many valuable ingredients for health. It is also a food which may be the subject of adulteration, as many different olive varieties with different geographical origin, exist all over the word. In the present study, the image analysis of stones of six main Greek protected designation of origin (PDO) table olive varieties was performed for the control of their authentication and discrimination, with cv. Prasines Chalkidikis, cv. Kalamata Olive, cv. Konservolia Stylidas, cv. Konservolia Amfissis, cv. Throuba Thassos and cv. Throuba Chios being the studied olive varieties. Orthogonal partial least square discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) was used for discrimination and classification of the six Greek table olive varieties. With a 98.33% of varietal discrimination, the OPLS-DA model proved to be an efficient tool to authentify table olive varieties from their morphological characteristics.

The main objective of this paper is to classify four kinds of automobile lubricant by near-infrared (NIR) spectral technology and to observe whether NIR spectroscopy could be used for predicting water content. Principle component analysis (PCA) was applied to reduce the information from the spectral data and first two PCs were used to cluster the samples. Partial least square (PLS), least square support vector machine (LS-SVM), and Gaussian processes classification (GPC) were employed to develop prediction models. There were 120 samples for training set and test set. Two LS-SVM models with first five PCs and first six PCs were built, respectively, and accuracy of the model with five PCs is adequate with less calculation. The results from the experiment indicate that the LS-SVM model outperforms the PLS model and GPC model outperforms the LS-SVM model.

SUMMARYThis study aimed to evaluate the incidence of Staphylococcus aureus infections in different departments of Belcolle Hospital in Viterbo and the surrounding area between January 2003 and June 2008. Isolates of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) recovered in this time interval were characterized by microbiological and molecular methods to evaluate the reliability of simple criteria to distinguish between hospital-acquired and community-acquired isolates. MRSA accounted for 33% of all S. aureus, with a significantly higher prevalence in isolates from nosocomial infections. MRSA isolates were assayed by PCR for the presence of 13 genes associated with virulence, agr type and SCCmec type. Cumulative data were analysed by partial least square discriminant analysis and a clear correlation was demonstrated between genetic profiles and classification of isolates as hospital or community acquired according to simple temporal criteria. Nosocomial MRSA isolates from blood samples showed significantly higher genetic diversity than other nosocomial isolates. Our data confirm the existence of significant differences between community- and hospital-acquired MRSA isolates.

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of competence, Independence and Pressure of Obedience to Audit Quality based on Internal Audit Capability Model (IACM). This research contributes the theoretical and practical benefits as the form of adoption of agency theory and attribution theory and suggestions to improve the expertise of female auditors by taking into account the competence, independence, and pressure of obedience to produce quality inspection in the field of supervision. This study uses a quantitative approach. The analysis technique used in this research is Partial Least Square (PLS) with the help of warpPLS software. The subject of this study is the Inspectorate of East Java Province with a sample of female auditors in the Inspectorate of East Java Province which amounted to 30 female auditors. The results of this study indicate that competence affects the Audit Quality based on Internal Audit Capability Model (IACM), while the independence and pressure of obedience do not effect the Audit Quality based on Internal Audit Capability Model (IACM).

A micellar electrokinetic electrophoresis-laser induced fluorescence detection (MEKC-LIF) method was applied for the profiling of native fluorescence in three different kinds of Chinese green teas. The running buffer was 100 mM sodium borate (pH9.8) containing 20 mM SDS, and tea infusion was injected at the pressure of 0.5 psi for 5 seconds. The applied voltage was set at 25 kV, and the excited wavelength was 488 nm, and the detected wavelength was 520 nm. Ten tea samples were collected and analyzed by the developed method. Eighteen common peaks in the MEKC-LIF profiling of green teas were selected and these samples were classified into 3 groups by cluster analysis and partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). Our primary results indicated that the developed method could be applied for the classification of three different Chinese green teas

Capacity is the main element for farmers in achieving their goals. Farmer’s Capacity consists elements of knowledge, attitude, and skills. With the increasing number of visits in Bali, especially Jatiluwih Agrotourism, farmers should be the subject of management so that they can fully enjoy the benefits of the visit. With the existence of agrotourism, agriculture and tourism can be a pair of harmonious sectors. Tourist’s feedback on the satisfaction and intention to revisit can be an input in the effort to increasing the farmer’s capacity in agrotourism management for its sustainability. This paper analyzes Farmer’s Capacity for Jatiluwih Agrotourism Management and Its Influence toward Tourist’s Satisfaction and Intention to Revisit. Primary and secondary data were obtained through interviews and filling out questionnaires with the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis method. The results of Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis show that farmer’s capacity has a significant effect on tourists’s satisfaction, which leads to tourists’s intention to revisit. it is expected that higher capacity of agroutourism management among farmers will increase tourist’s satisfaction which affects tourist’s intention to revisit hence, improving the welfare of the community, especially farmers in Jatiluwih Agrotourism. Almonds are nutrient-rich nuts. Due to their high level of consumption and relatively high price, their production is targeted for illegal practices, with the intention of earning more profit. The most common adulterants are based on superficial matching, and as an adulterant, the apricot kernel is comparatively inexpensive and almost identical in color, texture, odor, and other physicochemical characteristics to almonds. In this study, a near-infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIR-HSI) system in the wavelength range of 900–1700 nm synchronized with a conveyor belt was used for the online detection of added apricot kernels in almonds. A total of 448 samples from different varieties of almonds and apricot kernels (112 × 4) were scanned while the samples moved on the conveyor belt. The spectral data were extracted from each imaged nut and used to develop a partial least square discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) model coupled with different preprocessing techniques. The PLS-DA model displayed over a 97% accuracy for the validation set. Additionally, the beta coefficient obtained from the developed model was used for pixel-based classification. An image processing algorithm was developed for the chemical mapping of almonds and apricot kernels. Consequently, the obtained model was transferred for the online sorting of seeds. The online classification system feedback had an overall accuracy of 85% for the classification of nuts. However, the model presented a relatively low accuracy when evaluated in real-time for online application, which might be due to the rough distribution of samples on the conveyor belt, high speed, delaying time in suction, and lighting variations. Nevertheless, the developed online prototype (NIR-HSI) system combined with multivariate analysis exhibits strong potential for the classification of adulterated almonds, and the results indicate that the system can be effectively used for the high-throughput screening of adulterated almond nuts in an industrial environment.

In this recent study, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometrics have been successfully used for theclassification and quantitative analysis of adulterated Pangasius Hypopthalmus (P. hypopthalmus) oil. The aimof this research was to evaluate the ability of ATR-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometric to perform theclassification and quantitative analysis of adulterated P. hypopthalmus oil in a binary mixture with palm oil(PO) and coconut oil (CO). In the development of FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics for theclassification and quantitative analysis of P. hypopthalmus oil, P. hypopthalmus oil (MP and LFP) mixed withother oils such as coconut oil (CO) and palm oil (PO) at concentrations of 1-99% v/v. Classification of P.hypopthalmus oil, PO and CO were performed by the principal component analysis (PCA) and thequantification analysis was carried out by partial least square (PLS). Based on the optimization process, thebest classification results were obtained using the first derivative spectra at wave numbers of 1400-1100 cm-1.The prediction of percentage adulterated oil by PLS method also showed very good values of R2 greater than0.9999 and low standard error values in the range of 0.0176-0.703. The prediction was also perform at1400-1100 cm-1 wavenumbers using the first derivative spectra.
