The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between periodontitis and chronic gastritis/peptic ulcer using a cross-sectional study design. The present prospective cohort study used epidemiological data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES) recorded from 2004 to 2016. Among 173,209 participants, 9983 with periodontitis and 125,336 with no periodontitis were selected. Histories of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer between periodontitis and no periodontitis participants were analyzed. The participants were questioned around any history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, cerebral stroke, ischemic heart disease, periodontitis, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, nutritional intake, and financial income. Chi-square tests, independent t-tests, two-tailed analyses were used in statistical analysis of the data. The adjusted odds ratio of chronic gastritis was 2.22 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.10–2.34, p < 0.001) and that of peptic ulcer was 1.86 (95% CI = 1.74–1.98, p < 0.001) in model 2. This study demonstrated that periodontitis was associated with an increased risk of chronic gastritis/peptic ulcer. These findings provide additional evidence for an association between periodontitis and chronic gastritis/peptic ulcer.

Kata kunci: bullying, konsep diri, ketidakberdayaan, risisko bunuh diri SELF-CONCEPT AND INEQUALITY CONNECTED WITH RISK OF SELF-SUFFICIENT IN ADOLESCENTS WHO HAVE BULLYING ABSTRACTBullying is a negative behavior that is carried out repeatedly by a person or group of people who are attacking because of an imbalance of power between the parties involved. Bullying actions can have a negative impact on victims and perpetrators in the future. These impacts include loneliness, poor academic achievement, adaptation difficulties, increased risk of substance use, involvement in criminal acts and susceptibility to mental emotional disorders such as anxiety, insomnia, substance abuse, depression, low self-esteem, interpersonal difficulties, disturbances self concept, and depression (helplessness). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-concept and powerlessness with the risk of suicide in adolescents who experienced bullying in SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional study method with a correlation study design approach. The sample in this study amounted to 183 people obtained from random sampling techniques. The results showed that based on the results of the relationship test using Chi-Square between self-concept and powerlessness, the value of ρ (0,000) was smaller than the value of α (0.05), while the test of the relationship between self-concept and risk of suicide obtained a value of ρ (0.013 ) is smaller than the value of α (0.05). Thus that there is a relationship between self-concept and powerlessness with the risk of suicide in adolescents who experience bullying in SMA Negeri 7 Kota Bogor. Keywords: bullying, self-concept, helplessness, suicide risk

The objective of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the association between periodontitis and glaucoma. This prospective cohort study used epidemiological data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study performed between 2004 and 2016. Among 173,209 participants, 9572 patients with periodontitis and 115,332 controls (nonperiodontitis) were selected. We analysed the history of glaucoma in periodontitis and control participants. The participants were interviewed regarding their history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia, periodontitis, glaucoma, smoking, and alcohol consumption by trained interviewers. A logistic regression model was created to analyse the odds ratio of having a history of glaucoma among patients with periodontitis. Two-tailed analyses using chi-square and independent t-tests were used for statistical analysis. The adjusted odds ratio of periodontitis as a risk factor for glaucoma was 3.44 (95% confidence interval = 2.99–3.97, p < 0.001 ). This study demonstrated that glaucoma was associated with periodontitis.

Abstract Background HIV infection affects multiple organs and the kidney is a common target making renal disease, one of the recognized complications. Microalbuminuria represents an early, important marker of kidney damage in several populations including HIV-infected antiretroviral therapy (ART) naïve patients. Early detection of microalbuminuria is critical to slowing down progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in HIV-infected patients, however, the burden of microalbuminuria in HIV-infected antiretroviral therapy (ART) naïve patients in Uganda is unclear. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Mulago Immune suppression syndrome (ISS) clinic among adult HIV − infected ART naïve outpatients. Data on patient demographics, medical history was collected. Physical examination was performed to assess body mass index (BMI) and hypertension. A single spot morning urine sample from each participant was analysed for microalbuminuria using spectrophotometry and colorimetry. Microalbuminuria was defined by a urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) 30-299 mg/g and macroalbuminuria by a UACR > 300 mg/g. To assess the factors associated with microalbuminuria, chi-square, Fisher’s exact test, quantile regression and logistic regression were used. Results A total of 185 adult participants were consecutively enrolled with median age and CD4+ counts of 33(IQR = 28–40) years and 428 (IQR = 145–689) cells/μL respectively. The prevalence of microalbuminuria was 18.9% (95% CI, 14–25%). None of the participants had macroalbuminuria. CD4+ count <350cells/μL was associated with increased risk of microalbuminuria (OR: 0.27, 95% CI: 0.12–0.59), P value = 0.001). Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking, alcohol intake were not found to be significantly associated with microalbuminuria. Conclusion Microalbuminuria was highly prevalent in adult HIV − infected ART naive patients especially those with low CD4+ count. There is need to study the effect of ART on microalbuminuria in adult HIV − infected patients.

Background: Healthcare workers’ have increased risk of contracting the deadly COVID-19 pandemic due to their exposures to infected persons and their specimens. Ghana, like many other countries, has felt the devastating effects of this virus; it was therefore prudent to assess the levels of knowledge, perception and practice of Ghanaian healthcare providers on the current pandemic. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study enlisted 979 healthcare workers’ in Ghana from 1st Apr to 20th Nov, 2020, via self-reported questionnaire. SPSS version 22.0 was used for the analysis. Responses were summarized using frequency and proportions. A chi-square test was utilized to test for association at significant level of p <0.05.Results: Out of the 979 healthcare workers recruited, 56.4% had good knowledge and 59.5% displayed good perception on the novel COVID-19 while 63.1% of them effectively practiced the expected precautionary measures. Age (p=0.001), gender (p=0.034) and profession (p<0.001) significantly affected the practice of precautionary measure among the health personnel. The respondents’ perceptions towards the pandemic were significantly linked to their age (p<0.001), gender (p=0.043), profession (p<0.001), type of occupation (p=0.001) and source of information (p=0.006). Also, knowledge significantly related to good practices but did not influence the perception of HCWs.Conclusions: The current study identifies that more than half of HCWs in Ghana have sufficient knowledge, perception, and practice of precautionary measures; however, it elucidates some significant concerns about the knowledge gap in this COVID-19 outbreak. There is an obvious need for progressive in-service training programs for the health workers to broaden their scopes on the risks and preventive measures.

Hyperuricemia arises from the buildup of excessive uric acid in the blood, and it is implicated in the development of periodontitis. The objective of this study was to investigate the association between hyperuricemia and periodontitis using a cross-sectional study design and Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study Health Examinee (KoGES HEXA) data. This prospective cohort study used epidemiological data from the KoGES from 2004 to 2016. Among 173,209 participants, 8809 with hyperuricemia and 126,465 controls (non-hyperuricemia) were selected. This study defined hyperuricemia as >7.0 mg/dL of uric acid in men and >6.0 mg/dL in women. This study analyzed the history of periodontitis among hyperuricemia and control participants. Participants’ age, gender, income, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and nutritional intake were all examined. Chi-square tests, independent t-tests, and two-tailed analyses were used for statistical analysis. The adjusted OR (aOR) of hyperuricemia for periodontitis was 0.89 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.81–0.96, p = 0.005). This study demonstrated that hyperuricemia was associated with periodontitis. This finding meant that elevated uric acid levels could have a positive effect on periodontitis. However, further studies should be performed to determine the range of uric acid levels beneficial to periodontal health.

Objectives: The morbidity and mortality rate of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is quite high. For example proportion of PUD in China was 17.2%. There is a lack of epidemiological data available for this disease in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the proportion of PUD in Haji Hospital Jakarta and to describe the risk factors of age, sex, and patient history of NSAIDs medication.Materials and Methods: This was a cross sectional study. Samples were patients who undergo esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) examinations at the Hajj Hospital Jakarta from 2015 until 2018. Samples who met the inclusion dan exclusion criteria were selected randomly as needed. Data of chief complaints, diagnosis, age, sex, and history of NSAIDs medication were taken from the medical record.Result and Discussions: 112 samples were selected in this study. Major chief complaint was dyspepsia (42.9%). The proportion of PUD was 16 (14.3%) and predominantly male (75%). Most of the samples with PUD were >46 years old (68.8%). History of NSAIDs medications were 81.3% and most commonly used was mefenamic acid (41.2%). There was no significant association between PUD with sex (p>0.005), but there was a significant association between PUD and age (p < 0.005). Furthermore, older people more than 46 years were 11.5 times more likely to develop peptic ulceration than below 46 years (PR= 11.556).Conclusion: Elderly people should be more aware of the risk of getting PUD, especially those who had a history of NSAIDs medication.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 05 No. 01 January’21 Page: 27-30

Background: Limited data are available about the prevalence of helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection among primary NS children. Objectives: To assess the frequency and risk factors of H.pylori infection among children with primary NS. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in Mansoura University Children’s Hospital, Egypt during the period from 2017 to 2019 including 100 NS children (NS group) and 100 healthy controls. NS group included 88 steroid sensitive (SSNS) and 12 steroid resistant (SRNS) cases. All patients were assessed for H.pylori infection using H.pylori stool antigen (HpSA) test. Statistical analysis was done using chi-square, fisher exact and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: With regard to HpSA test results, no significant differences were detected between control and NS groups (p = 0.193) and between SSNS and SRNS groups (p = 0.286). Concerning total biopsied cases and MCD (proven plus presumed) cases, no significant differences were found between those with positive and negative HpSA test (p = 0.648 and 0.126, re- spectively). The high dose of steroid therapy was associated with a higher risk of H.pylori infection among NS group (Odds ratio = 3.8; 95% confidence interval = 1.3-11.3). Conclusion: The current study negates the increased risk of H.pylori infection in children with primary NS. Keywords: Children; H.pylori; primary nephrotic syndrome.

BACKGROUND Occupational conditions are deadly health hazards especially where dust exposure is inevitable causing chronic disabilities, impaired respiratory function and ultimately leading to death if no intensive measures are put in place. Unhealthy practices and negative attitudes rise in the number of cases of pneumoconiosis due to poor health education and awareness strategies. Pneumoconiosis is not only a health problem but also a social and economic burden on the livelihood of people living in mining areas around the globe. OBJECTIVE to assess knowledge, attitude and practices of miners and post-occupational miners towards pneumoconiosis in Wusakile Township, Kitwe, Zambia. METHODS A cross-sectional study was employed to conduct a research in Wusakile Township and a questionnaire was customized in order to syphon data relevant to the study as well to be brief. The study was conducted among 73 participants who were randomly selected among miners and post-occupational miners and all satisfied the inclusion criteria. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data. The data was entered and analysed using IBM SPSS software version 23. RESULTS Among 73 participants interviewed, 33.99% of participants had poor knowledge on the complications of pneumoconiosis. However, despite this poor knowledge, all participants had an idea about pneumoconiosis particularly silicosis. 13.70% of the respondents had bad practices towards pneumoconiosis while 86.30% had some good practices towards pneumoconiosis. Of the total participants, 19.18% of the participants had a negative attitude towards pneumoconiosis. Correlation between the level of education and practices of participants using Pearson Chi-Square, a p value of 0.021 (significant) was found ruling out the null hypothesis. CONCLUSIONS Information about pneumoconiosis and awareness programs towards pneumoconiosis are not widely disseminated among miners and post-occupational miners. There is still a significant number of participants who need to be educated more about pneumoconiosis and its complications so that attitude and practices are improved and also promote full community participation by involving competent health professionals to help in implementing preventive measures.
