The evaluation of the work performance of health professionals has focused the interest of scientific research in recent decades as a basis for improving the quality of health services. The global COVID-19 pandemic has pushed countries’ health systems to the limit and had previously unknown consequences on the job performance of health professionals. In this context, what are the determinants of performance? There are numerous studies that link job performance with other variables that directly affect it, such as leadership, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and work environment. However, there are no studies that jointly relate all these variables, and even less in the field of health. The main objective of this work is to analyse how these variables are configured together to generate a good level of performance of health professionals during the times of COVID-19. To do this, a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is carried out, an appropriate method that will allow finding the joint causal effects of key variables in human resources to ensure a good level of job performance in health organizations. The study reveals that leadership and commitment are the two key drivers of performance. The data confirm that the “recipe” to achieve a good level of performance consists of the combination of leadership, commitment, and a good work environment. Additionally, in the case of less satisfied workers, linking leadership and commitment is a sufficient condition.

Purpose – Present study is a descriptive and analytical in nature aiming to bring out the relationship among emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, perceived organizational supporting practices, family support on psychological wellbeing and work performance of the Indian expatriates in United States of America. Design/Methodology/Approach- This study adopts positivist deductive approach it, starts with clear variables which are derived from theory and based on these variables. The data for the study was collected through the structured questionnaire. The sample for the present study was collected from the Indian IT expatriates who are assigned to USA working in the four major IT cluster of USA i.e. California, Washington, New York, & Chicago. A total 634 questionnaires were received indicating a response rate of 52 %. The questionnaire for this study consists of 87 items and the five point Likert type response format is used for all the measures ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. SPSS 21 and Microsoft excel are the statistical packages and regression is the tools used in the present study Findings- An important affiliation was observed among emotional intelligence and expatriate job performance and psychological wellbeing. As the job performance and psychological wellbeing largely dependent on the emotional intelligence of the employee, the job performance of the expatriates is also influenced by the emotional intelligence level of the expatriate. Higher levels of emotional intelligence predict higher the job performance and psychological wellbeing of the expatriate. A significant relationship was found between cultural intelligence and expatriate job performance and psychological wellbeing. When the expatriate face culturally diverse work environment, the Cultural intelligence of the expatriate allows the expatriate to adopt behaviours which potentially contributes to the success of the expatriate in the diverse work environment. A signification had been observed between perceived organizational supporting practices and expatriate performance. Inclination towards repayment towards the organization is high among the employees who are in receipt of major support from the organization. The support of the organization becomes more relevant in the instance of the expatriates because the expatriates are working away from the parent organization in culturally diverse settings. A signification relationship was found between perceived family supports and expatriate performance. When the accompanying family is well adjusted to the new culture, the employee can concentrate more on the job responsibilities. Hence,

Gunilla Bradley has been an intellectual force for more than forty years. The evolution of her thinking led to a theoretical model that posits the convergence of computer, information, and media technologies and how our work and private lives have been transformed by computerization. This essay examines recent research on this convergence in the context of multitasking, including communicative practices in social and interpersonal interactions at work, effects on the quality of work life and job performance, and the dissolving of the boundaries of work and private lives. Convergence has had both positive and negative effects. It has the potential for improving the quality of social and interpersonal relationships and productivity in the workplace, but, at the same time, substantial evidence shows that multitasking has contributed, sometimes significantly, to increases in stress and cognitive load that have impeded job performance. These effects of computerization were identified very early in Bradley’s research investigations, confirming the continued relevance of her research agenda for future work that she proposed more than 20 years ago in her book Computers and the Psychosocial Work Environment.

Purpose This paper aims to advance a configural asymmetric theory of the complex antecedents to hospitality employee happiness-at-work and managers’ assessments of employees’ quality of work performance. The study transcends variable and case-level analyses to go beyond prior statistical findings of small-to-medium effect sizes of happiness–performance relationships; the study here identifies antecedent paths involving high-versus-low happy employees associating with high-versus-low managers’ assessments of these employees’ performances. Design/methodology/approach The study merges data from surveys of employees (n = 247) and surveys completed by their managers (n = 43) and by using qualitative comparative analysis via the software program, fsQCA.com. The study analyzes data from Janfusan Fancyworld, the largest (in revenues and number of employees) tourism business group in Taiwan; Janfusan Fancyworld includes tourist hotels, amusement parks, restaurants and additional firms in related service sectors. Findings The findings support the four tenets of configural analysis and theory construction: recognize equifinality of different solutions for the same outcome, test for asymmetric solutions, test for causal asymmetric outcomes for very high versus very low happiness and work performance and embrace complexity. Research limitations/implications Additional research in other firms and additional countries is necessary to confirm the usefulness of examining algorithms for predicting very high (low) happiness and very high (low) quality of work performance. The implications are substantial that configural theory and research will resolve perplexing happiness–performance conundrums. Practical implications The study provides useful case-level algorithms involving employees’ demographic characteristics and their assessments of work facet-specifics which are useful for explaining very high happiness-at-work and high quality of work performance (as assessed by managers) – as well as algorithms explaining very low happiness and very low quality of work performance. Originality/value The study is the first to propose and test the tenets of configural theory in the context of hospitality frontline service employees’ happiness-at-work and managers’ assessments of these employees’ quality of work performances.

Background. In this era of Information Communication Technology, a high-quality working environment is essential to the occupants. Providing quantity rather the quality of work environments is very common in most of the least developed countries, including Tanzania. Existing research asserts that poor indoor environmental quality such as lighting has a detrimental effect on human health, and in case of the office working population, it also affects their work performance. This study aims to analyze the effects of the lighting quality on working efficiency of workers in Tanzania. Methods. Four representative offices from the administration building at Mbeya University of Science and Technology were investigated from June to September 2018. The customized questionnaire survey tool was administered to the randomly selected occupants to survey their perceptions about the quality of lighting in their workplace and its influence on their health and work efficiency. Physical observation and illuminance distribution measurements were also conducted. Results. The statistical analysis indicates that the majority of the occupants are less satisfied with the lighting quality in their working environment, and some respondents reported that it significantly affected their work efficiency and wellbeing. The average desk illuminance and uniformity level were found to be below the recommended values of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the International Commission on lighting (CIE). Conclusion. Despite the suggested improvement measures, this research emphasizes that poorly articulated work environment can adversely affect the productivity and work efficiency of the workers. The workers in such condition are also exposed to occupational diseases. Thus, providing a healthy work environment should be a fundamental right of the workers.

This study aims to determine and analyze the influence of work culture, compensation, and work environment on employee performance with job satisfaction as an intervening variable. The idea of improving employee performance is in line with the need to improve the quality of sustainable development plans in planning agencies. Using a case study of employees at the Bima District Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA Kabupaten Bima), this research highlights the importance of improving employee performance for achieving the quality of planning and budgeting policies. The criteria used in the purposive sampling are based on the status of position IIIa and a minimum working period of 3 years. The head of the BAPPEDA office was not selected as a respondent in the study. The total number of study participants was 51 employees. Data analysis using SPSS statistical program and parallel path analysis method. The results showed two interrelated patterns, first work culture and work environment have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, while compensation has a positive and insignificant effect on job satisfaction. Second, work culture and work environment have a positive and significant effect on employee performance, while compensation has a negative and significant effect on employee performance, and job satisfaction has a positive and insignificant effect on employee performance. This study suggests the importance of improving work culture and work environment, as well as providing compensation in fulfilling job satisfaction and employee satisfaction in order to have salary fairness, recognition of work dedication and individual needs to improve work performance
