In Italy, smoking is still widespread among a relatively high percentage of young people. This study aimed to develop and validate a questionnaire to assess smoking habits, passive smoke exposure, electronic cigarette (e-cig) and heated tobacco product (HTP) use, attitudes, knowledge, and needs among undergraduates. A questionnaire consisting of 84 items was developed starting from a literature review and existing questionnaires. A two-round validation was performed by a team of 10 experts. The item-level content validity index (I-CVI), the scale-level content validity index (S-CVI), and the kappa statistics k, taking into account chance agreement, were calculated from the experts’ rating. The questionnaire was emailed to 114 students from the Obstetrics Degree of the University of Milan (Italy) to be pilot tested. After the second round of validation, all indexes were above the respective acceptability criteria: the I-CVI was 1.00 for all but three items, k was >0.74 (“excellent”) for all items, and the S-CVI was 0.964. Eighty-nine students participated in the survey: 17 classified themselves as smokers, eight as new product users, and four as former smokers, 72% students declared to routinely spend free time with smokers, while almost all students believed that healthcare professionals play a pivotal role in preventing smoking towards their patients and society. This questionnaire will be used in a survey among students from the University of Milan as a first step for future campaigns targeting health promotion.

ABSTRACT Objective The purpose of this study was to validate the card game The Enigma of the Pyramid about healthy eating, using judges (expert) for the validation of content and design; and the target population (students from the 4th and 5th grades, aged 9-10 years) for the semantic validation (pilot test). Methods The Item-Level Content Validity Index was used to verify the degree of agreement among the experts’ opinions, item by item; and the Scale Level Content Validity Index to determine the arithmetic mean of the proportion of items that receive judgments of “non-disagreement” by the judges. The item that obtained Item-Level Content Validity Index greater or equal to 0.80 and Scale Level Content Validity Index greater or equal to 0.90 was considered validated, which was the coefficient of validity. The binominal test was used to select the items that should be revised/modified, using the p-value of ratio (reject H0 if p≤0.8). Items were validated at significance level of ≤0.05. Results Twenty-two judges and 12 schoolchildren participated in the study. Of the 23 items of the card game, nine were selected for review/modification, of which five were from the language component and four from the suitability component for the target population. Conclusion Once the modifications were made, they were all approved by all participating students, making this educational tool on healthy eating habits available for use with the student population.

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to evaluate content validity, convergent validity, internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Thai version of the Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS-Thai). METHODS: The content validity of the SANS-Thai was assessed using four experts. The average-content validity index and item level content validity index were analyzed. The SANS-Thai and the Thai versions of the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE) were administered to 40 people with schizophrenia to examine convergent validity and internal consistency. Twenty participants took the second SANS-Thai assessment within four weeks to evaluate test-retest reliability. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that the SANS-Thai has excellent content validity with the average-content validity index of 0.94. The majority of the item level content validity index range from 0.75 to 1. The global and total SANS-Thai score moderately correlated with the ACE with the correlation coefficient of -0.48 (p = 0.002) and -0.49 (p=0.001), respectively. Internal consistency by the Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.95. Test-retest reliabilities by intraclass correlation were 0.91 (p<0.001) for global SANS-Thai and 0.9 (p<0.001) for total SANS-Thai. The Bland-Altman plot demonstrated that only 5% of the participants fell outside the limits of agreement for both global SANS and total SANS scores. CONCLUSION: The SANS-Thai appears to be a valid and reliable measure of negative symptoms in schizophrenia and could be useful for patient care and research studies.

Background:The overuse of interventions in labor and childbirth increase the risk of mortality and morbidity in women. There are wide variations in the use of routine interventions locally, regionally, and globally. The reasons for this are complex and multifactorial. This study focuses its investigations at the microcosm of practice. It outlines the validation of the content of a new Tool to assess and support the implementation of evidence-informed practices by health-care professionals. Methods:Seven experts and eight women user representatives used a 4-point ordinal scale of relevance to rate 50 items in the Keeping Birth Normal (KBN) Tool. Item-level content validity index (I-CVI), an average scale-level content validity index (S-CVI/Ave), and qualitative comments were used to delete and improve items. Results:Eleven experts analyzed all 50 items. Four experts rated 35–49 items. The initial scale received an S-CVI/Ave of 0.88. Two items were deleted, improvements were made to 45 items, some were merged, and 7 new items were added. The final scale with 36 items received an S-CVI/Ave of 1.0 post item deletion and improvement.Discussion:The items in the KBN Tool are construct relevant and will undergo plausibility testing in a future study. Other forms of validity evidence on response processes and internal structure, which may be gathered, will depend on its further application in practice and research.

PurposeTo translate and adapt the Chelsea Critical Care Physical Assessment Tool (CPAx) into Chinese version (‘CPAx-Chi’), test the reliability and validity of CPAx-Chi, and verify the cut-off point for the diagnosis of intensive care unit-acquired weakness (ICU-AW).Study designCross-sectional observational study.MethodsForward and back translation, cross-cultural adaptation and pretesting of CPAx into CPAx-Chi were based on the Brislin model. Participants were recruited from the general ICU of five third-grade class-A hospitals in western China. Two hundred critically ill adult patients (median age: 53 years; 64% men) with duration of ICU stay ≥48 hours and Glasgow Coma Scale ≥11 were included in this study. Two researchers simultaneously and independently assessed eligible patients using the Medical Research Council Muscle Score (MRC-Score) and CPAx-Chi.ResultsThe content validity index of items was 0.889. The content validity index of scale was 0.955. Taking the MRC-Score scale as standard, the criterion validity of CPAx-Chi was r=0.758 (p<0.001) for researcher A, and r=0.65 (p<0.001) for researcher B. Cronbach’s α was 0.939. The inter-rater reliability was 0.902 (p<0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curves of CPAx-Chi for diagnosing ICU-AW based on MRC-Score ≤48 were 0.899 (95% CI 0.862 to 1.025) and 0.874 (95% CI 0.824 to 0.925) for researcher B. The best cut-off point for CPAx-Chi for the diagnosis of ICU-AW was 31.5. The sensitivity was 87% and specificity was 77% for researcher A, whereas it was 0.621, 31.5, 75% and 87% for researcher B, respectively. The consistency was high when taking CPAx-Chi ≤31 and MRC-Score ≤48 as the cut-off points for the diagnosis of ICU-AW. Cohen’s kappa=0.845 (p=0.02) in researcher A and 0.839 (p=0.04) for researcher B.ConclusionsCPAx-Chi demonstrated content validity, criterion-related validity and reliability. CPAx-Chi showed the best accuracy in assessment of patients at risk of ICU-AW with good sensitivity and specificity at a recommended cut-off of 31.
