When taking the final impression for a three-unit fixed partial denture (FPD), the intaglio surface of the pontic of provisional restoration cannot be transferred accurately to that of definitive restoration. The intra- and extra-oral scanning (IEOS) technique, a method for accurately reproducing the submucosal morphology of the superstructure of an implant, has been reported using an intraoral scanner. In the present study, we evaluated the difference between the conventional impression method using impression material and the IEOS technique in reproducing the morphology of the surface of the pontic of a definitive FPD. There was a significant difference in the trueness of the intaglio surface morphology of the pontic between the conventional method and the IEOS technique; however, no significant difference in precision was observed. As a result, the intaglio surface of the pontic of the three-unit FPD could be transferred to definitive restorations more accurately with the IEOS technique than with the conventional method. These results suggest that the IEOS technique can duplicate the intaglio surface of the pontic more reproducibly to the definitive restorations compared with the conventional method.

Background Gingival inflammation and periodontal disease are the common complications of fixed dental prosthesis. They can be overcome by good oral hygiene maintenance.Objective The objective of this study was to assess the oral hygiene and gingival condition in patients after placement of fixed dental prosthesis for a period of six months. It was also analyzed how factors like type of fixed dental prosthesis (Single crown, fixed partial denture) and material (Metal, Porcelain fused to metal) are statistically associated with oral hygiene and gingival health.Method The sample consisted of 50 patients visiting the Dental Outpatient Department of Dhulikhel Hospital. The oral examinations were conducted using basic diagnostic tools (Mouth mirror, periodontal probe and explorer). Teeth and gingiva were examined using the Plaque and Gingiva Index by Silness and Löe. The examinations were conducted after 14 days and six months after placement of fixed dental prosthesis along with the oral hygiene instructions. Paired sample t-test were done to find statistical association using SPSS 16.0.Result Our results revealed no significant difference in plaque index among patients with single crown whereas fixed partial denture showed statistical significance. No significant differences were found for type of material. The statistical analysis showed similar results for gingival index.Conclusion Our research showed that single crown had no significant difference on Plaque index and Gingival index of the patient after 14 days and six months, whereas, Fixed partial denture showed significant difference. Both metal and porcelain fused to metal crown revealed no statistically significant difference on Plaque index and Gingival index.

AbstractThe present study evaluated the marginal fit, the internal filling volume and the degree of porosity in cemented metallic total crowns. Then, 12 metal crowns cast in titanium (Ti) were made on bovine teeth with total preparations and 90° shoulder terminal line. The samples were divided into 4 groups according to the type of cement used and the cementation techniques, 2 groups were used Zinc phosphate (SS White) with the partial insertion of the cementing agent filling the inner crown surface (FP) and total filling (FT), and in the other 2 groups, dual resin cement (RelyX ARC 3M) with the partial insertion of cement (RP) and total insertion (RT) were used. The results showed that cervical marginal fit after cementation was clinically adequate in all groups (<100μm), and for the internal filling volume and porosity were: FP - 99.14% / 0.86%; FT = 98.82% / 1.18%; RP - 97.06% / 2.94% and RT - 97.76% / 2.24%. The statistical analysis was performed by Mann-Whitney test. In conclusion, the two types of cements obtained acceptable values of marginal fit, however, the zinc phosphate cement had better internal fill and lower porosity than the resin cement. Regarding the insertion technique, only the FP and FT groups had a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) compared to the RP group. Keywords: Fixed Partial Denture. X-Ray Microtomography. Dental Cements. ResumoO presente trabalho avaliou o desajuste marginal, o volume de preenchimento interno e o grau de porosidade em cimentações de coroas totais metálicas. A partir de dentes bovinos com preparos periféricos totais e términos cervicais do tipo ombro de 90º, foram confeccionadas 12 coroas metálicas fundidas em titânio (Ti). As amostras foram divididas em 4 grupos de acordo com o tipo de cimento utilizado e as técnicas de cimentação, dentre estes, em 2 grupos foram usados Fosfato de zinco (SS White) com inserção parcial do agente cimentante preenchendo a superfície interna da coroa (FP) e preenchimento total (FT), e nos outros 2 grupos foram usados Cimento resinoso dual (RelyX ARC 3M) com inserção parcial do cimento (RP) e total (RT). As análises foram feitas por microtomografia computadorizada por raios X. Os resultados mostraram que o desajuste marginal cervical após a cimentação estava adequado clinicamente em todos os grupos (<100µm), e para o volume de preenchimento interno e porosidade foram respectivamente: FP – 99,14%/0,86%; FT – 98,82%/1,18%; RP – 97,06%/2,94% e RT – 97,76%/2,24%. Na análise estatística utilizou-se o teste de Mann-Whitney para amostras independentes. Concluiu-se que os dois tipos de cimentos obtiveram valores aceitáveis de desajuste marginal, contudo o cimento de fosfato de zinco apresentou melhor preenchimento interno e menor porosidade que o cimento resinoso. Em relação à técnica de inserção, apenas os grupos FP e FT tiveram diferença estatística significativa (p<0,05) comparado ao grupo RP. Palavras-chave: Prótese Parcial Fixa. One type of cooperative learning methods is Think Pair Share (TPS). This study aimed at examining the contribution of the TPS method in increasing students' critical thinking in Islamic studies. Particularly, the study investigated the significances of the difference between learned students using TPS method and conventional method, and the effectiveness of TPS learning method. This study used an experimental group and a control group. It is a quasi-experiment with pre-test and post-tests non equivalent control group design. The population of this research are students who take courses in Islamic studies. Samples are taken randomly by taking two classes for an experimental class and a control class. The technique of collecting data was tests, while the technique of data analysis used the statistical technique of t-test (independent and paired samples) within the application of the SPSS release 24 program. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant difference (sig .000) between groups of students who are taught by the TPS Method and conventional Method. In addition, the TPS method has also proven to be effective for teaching Islamic studies which shows a significant difference (sig .000) between the pre-test and post-test.

Aim: With the emphasis on success of implant supported prosthesis, and health of the surrounding tissues that are related to accuracy, and fit between the implant components, stability at implant abutment interface is of prime importance. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the stress distribution in three unit cement retained implant supported fixed partial denture with different implant abutment connections through photo elasticity. Materials and methods: Two photo elastic resin models were fabricated of standard dimensions (44mmx22mmx10mm). Group I sample: Three unit cement retained implant supported fixed partial denture with Internal implant abutment connection (Internal hexagonal connection) (Paltop Advanced, Keystone Dental Company, US)Group II sample: Three unit cement retained implant supported fixed partial denture with conical Morse taper connection (1.5 degree Morse taper) (Paltop Conical Active, Keystone Dental Company, US). Three unit cement retained implant supported fixed partial denture simulated missing mandibular first molar. Axial and oblique loads of 100N were placed on each implant and pontic area for 10 sec. Ten tests were done for each group. The stress values around the implants were derived from the colored fringe patterns obtained through polariscope, which were photographed after load applications from which values were derived. Results: Under axial loading, there was statistically significant difference between internal hexagonal connection and Morse taper connection in three unit implant supported prosthesis. Stresses were more in Group II sample with Morse taper connection. Under oblique loading, there was no statistically significant difference between Group I and Group II samples. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, it can be concluded that Internal hexagonal connection showed less stresses as compared to Morse taper connection in a three unit cement retained implant supported prosthesis. Stresses were concentrated more in apical area under axial loading; while under oblique loading stresses were seen on the side of application of force on the body of the implant and on the apical region. However, stresses were uniformly distributed in both groups I and group II samples. In both groups stresses under oblique loading were more than axial loading, but that was not statistically significant.

Abstract Aim To demonstrate the clinical feasibility of autoclaving certain silicone impression materials in order to avoid potential cross-contamination during handling, transport, and subsequent processing. Background Semicritical devices are recommended to be treated at least with high-level disinfectants or actually steam sterilized at 134°C. To date dental impressions have been disinfected rather than sterilized, so the question remains should they be sterilized before being sent to the dental laboratory? Case Descriptions Two identical impressions per case were made of metal-ceramic crown and fixed partial denture preparations on the same patient using addition type polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impression materials (AFFINIS, R Coltene/ Whaledent AG, 9450 Altstatten, Switzerland) in different trays. The first impression (IMPx1) was cleaned and treated with an intermediate-level disinfectant (FD 322.Fast Disinfection Spray, Durr Dental, 74321 Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany). The second impression (IMPx2) was cleaned, treated with an intermediate-level disinfectant as with IMPx1, subjected to a computer tomography (CT) scan with a dimensional resolution of ±10 μm, steam sterilized, and then subjected to a second CT scan. The dimensional changes of the second impression after steam sterilization were calculated by comparing the overlay of the two CT scans and expressed by color coding of the impression graphics. After the second scan, the impression was sent to a dental laboratory to fabricate a metal-ceramic crown or metal-ceramic fixed partial denture restoration to the one produced from the first impression (IMPx1) subjected only to disinfection. This process was repeated for four clinical cases. Conclusion Impressions made with AFFINIS® silicone impression materials in a rigid reinforced polycarbonate impression tray or in a metal dual-arch tray can be autoclaved. The overall dimensional stability of the impressions and the quality of single crowns and small fixed partial dentures made using IMPx2 was not compromised. The maximum dimensional differences at the preparations of the nonautoclaved and the autoclaved impressions were found to be within acceptable limits of about 50–100 ìm. Clinical Significance Steam sterilization of AFFINIS® impressions is possible without adversely affecting dimensional change. In addition, clinicians can clearly indicate to the dental practice and laboratory personnel that sterilization of the impressions has been performed, cross-contamination is unlikely, and the impressions present no apparent health hazard during transport and subsequent processing. Purpose. For a precise fit of multiple implant framework, having an accurate definitive cast is imperative. The present study evaluated dimensional accuracy of master casts obtained using different impression trays and materials with open tray impression technique.Materials and Methods. A machined aluminum reference model with four parallel implant analogues was fabricated. Forty implant level impressions were made. Eight groups (n=5) were tested using impression materials (polyether and vinylsiloxanether) and four types of impression trays, two being custom (self-cure acrylic and light cure acrylic) and two being stock (plastic and metal). The interimplant distances were measured on master casts using a coordinate measuring machine. The collected data was compared with a standard reference model and was statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA.Results. Statistically significant difference (p<0.05) was found between the two impression materials. However, the difference seen was small (36 μm) irrespective of the tray type used. No significant difference (p>0.05) was observed between varied stock and custom trays.Conclusions. The polyether impression material proved to be more accurate than vinylsiloxanether impression material. The rigid nonperforated stock trays, both plastic and metal, could be an alternative for custom trays for multi-implant impressions when used with medium viscosity impression materials.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to compare patients’ acceptability, comfort and stress with conventional and digital impressions. Materials and Methods: Thirty young orthodontic patients (15 males and 15 females) who had no previous experience of impressions were enrolled in this study. Conventional impressions for orthodontic study models of the dental arches were taken using an alginate impression material (Hydrogum®, Zhermack Spa, Badia Polesine, Rovigo, Italy). Fifteen days later, digital impressions of both arches were acquired using an intraoral scanner (CS3600®, Carestream Dental, Rochester, NY, USA). Immediately after impression taking, patients’ acceptability, comfort and stress were measured using two questionnaires and the State anxiety scale. Results: Data showed no difference in terms of anxiety and stress; however, patients preferred the use of digital impressions systems instead of conventional impression techniques. Alginate impressions resulted as fast as digital impressions. Conclusions: Digital impressions resulted the most accepted and comfortable impression technique in young orthodontic patients, when compared to conventional techniques.

ABSTRACTObjectives: The aim of this study was to investigate surface roughness in provisional crown acrylics, after polishing, reinforced with different concentrations of glass fibers.Methods: A total of 48 disk-shaped specimens were prepared using autopolymerizing acrylic resin. These specimens were divided into four groups according to the level of glass fiber added: Group A (no fiber), Group B (0.5%), Group C (1%) and Group D (2%). After polishing the specimens, an average surface roughness (Ra) value was calculated using a profilometer from four randomly selected points on the surface.Results: A significant difference was determined among the surface roughness values of provisional crown resins to which different concentrations of fiber had been added (P<.001).Tukey�s test was then used to perform paired comparisons of the data between the different groups, and a significant difference was found between Group A (no fiber) and the other groups, between Group B (0.5%) and Group D (2%) and between Group C (1%) and Group D. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between Group B and Group C.Conclusions: The reinforcement of provisional crown and fixed partial denture resin with glass fibers increases surface roughness.
