The level of innovativeness within the higher education systems of east and southeast Europe and their graduates is still assessed as modest or moderate. Besides the general socio–economic context and the inherited institutional management types, this deficiency stems from a lack of generic skills crucial for increasing the innovation capacity of the universities. TrainESEE v.2 project suggests that significant changes should be already put in place within the applied teaching methodology, but also highlights the importance of developing project development and management skills, innovation, entrepreneurial skills, and finally competences needed to strengthen science to business cooperation.

Modern enterprises have to respond to the challenge of changing competitive situations by being able to adapt their business models and the supporting IT systems. Service-orientation and cloud computing offer established approaches for achieving flexibility in the use of computing resources and sourcing strategies. This requires promoting systematic development and management of capabilities to key activities. To ease the adaptation of business services to changed business needs a complementary abstraction layer, namely, “Capability as a Service” (CaaS) should be considered. The primary purpose of this layer is to support the capture and representation of the factors that are decisive for flexibility in business services. The main contributions of this paper are (1) motivating the additional capability-focused abstraction layer by an industrial application case, (2) the concept of CaaS including methodical aspects and technology for delivery, and (3) an initial model of capabilities for the industrial application case from utilities sector.

This chapter provides a synthesis of planning small-scale entrepreneurial skills to guide the current and prospective micro investors to harness wide ranges of agribusiness value chains in Nigeria. This initiative considered alternatives in business strategic options to harness the potentials therein, which involve production, distribution, processing of agricultural products and services integration for converting agricultural outputs for regular and timely supply of domestic and international needs. The current outcry for economic diversification couple with high rate of unemployment in Nigeria requires concerted efforts to boost the agriculture sector as a viable alternative for growth and development. Suffices to say, most agribusiness investors more often than not, experience failure because of the dearth of requisite business skills for planning the survival and growth of small-scale agribusinesses in the face of modern realities. In this wise, the chapter brings the benefits such as risk mitigation, cost savings, and income generation through combination of known production planning and business management skills. The chapter adopts discursive taxonomy, interpolating elicited facts from available literature plus the knowledge of ‘on-the-job-experience’ to promote and support the development of agribusinesses strategy for the transformation of the agriculture sector to generate employment, income, and promote food security, and competitiveness in the marketplaces.

Based on the data of the World Economic Forum, the individual impact of innovation capacity on the competitiveness of eleven countries in Southeast Europe in the period 2017-2019 was quantified by analyzing rank and index values and using the method of correlation analysis. The obtained results showed a significant relationship between the observed countries' ranks of innovation and competitiveness in the observed time interval. The results also showed a direct link between the index of innovation ability and global competitiveness when economic development is predominantly based on the so-called platform of the fourth industrial revolution. This implies the necessity for an efficient innovation policy in the countries of Southeast Europe since the improvement of a country's innovation capacity has a stimulating effect on the growth of their competitiveness.

Unemployment has become a household name among graduates in Nigeria. It is more worrisome when business education graduates are conspicuously found among the unemployed graduates roaming around the streets. This study therefore evaluated the extent of possession of communication, financial management and failure management skills for self-reliance among business education undergraduate students in south-western states. The survey research design was adopted. The population of the study consisted of 630 final year Business Education students in all the four public universities offering Business Education programme. The sample of the study consisted of 150 respondents, representing 24%, which was selected through proportionate sampling technique. A self-designed questionnaire titled “Questionnaire on Evaluating Entrepreneurial Skills for Self-Reliance “(QEESSR) with 35 items was developed to elicit responses on the three research questions raised for the study. The instrument was validated by two Business Education experts and one Test expert. The split half method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and the data collected were subjected to Pearson Product Moment Correlation formula and yielded a coefficient of 0.72. The study concludes that Business Education students highly possessed communication, financial management and failure management skills that could make them become successful entrepreneurs. The study therefore recommends that Business Education students should make judicious use of the failure management skills possessed to establish their own entrepreneurial outfits and nurture them to maturity after graduation, among others.

Abstract In recent years, a consensus has grown across the European Union that the acquisition of transversal skills—including foreign language and entrepreneurial skills—is key to the success of learners in their personal and professional life. The CRADLE teaching methodology for primary school teachers is the first teaching methodology to simultaneously foster both of these skill sets, employing a cross-curricular, activity-based, pupil-centred, exploratory teaching and learning approach based on a linear four-step process inspired by Design Thinking with problem-solving and designing solutions in mind. This article discusses the implementation of the CRADLE teaching methodology in six primary schools in three European countries. Based on an analysis of project plans, lesson observations and teachers’ feedback during the pilot stage of the methodology, we are able to demonstrate that the methodology is a flexible tool for developing students’ knowledge and skills. The observed results provide evidence of increased pupil interest and involvement, successful acquisition of foreign language and communication skills (accuracy and fluency in speaking, vocabulary development, ability to express opinions and ideas, answer questions and understand instructions) and emerging entrepreneurial skills such as self-efficacy, creativity, valuing ideas, taking initiatives, planning and management, and working with others.

The aim of this study was to determine the type of information professionals sought by the employment market. Job advertisements provide an effective source for identifying core qualifications, competencies and experience required by employers. These also help to discover any gaps that may exist between education and training provision and employers' expectations. A total of 150 job advertisements were collected and analysed from different newspapers, periodicals and job websites. For the knowledge management professionals, qualification in business was the most frequently sought requirement. In addition to management skills and knowledge of the business sector, experience in information and knowledge management and research know-how were also perceived as important. Online searching abilities, communication and interpersonal skills, presentation and facilitation skills were also high on the employers' list of preferences. For library professionals, library and information science qualification was a prerequisite for employment, with emphasis on information handling skills, management and leadership skills, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in collection development and management, reference services and cataloguing were also frequently sought requirements.
