In the present paper, we focus on the macroeconomic implications of the populist public policies and in particular on the effects of wage led growth strategy, which started to be applied in Romania from January 2017. Such a study is important as a practical example of applying this particular wage related public policy and sets the premises for analyzing its sustainability and its macroeconomic implications and costs. For analyzing the implications of the wage-led growth strategy upon the sustainability of macroeconomic variables, we have used an unrestricted VAR (vector auto regressive) and compared the effect of the impulse response functions with the recent evolutions of the Romanian economy. Thus, we have observed the effect of the wage led growth strategy, by using the average wage, trade deficit, number of employees, inflation rate, labor productivity, and minimum wage as variables. Our study shows that the wage-led growth policy had a strong positive impact on the number of employees and on inflation, increasing it, but a negative impact on productivity. In addition, we have seen a strong positive impact on increasing the trade deficit. These particular evolutions have left the Romanian economy with almost no fiscal and monetary space of maneuver in the face of the exogenous shock produced by the pandemic.

This paper uses the bootstrap rolling window approach to analyze the dynamic causal relationship between the fiscal deficit and the trade deficit in the US from 1901 to 2018. We find the origination and termination of each causality period by considering the structural breaks. The results show that the fiscal deficit had a positive impact on the trade deficit from 1946 to 1956, from 1982 to 1998, in 2000 and from 2002 to 2008, which is in accord with the results of the Mundell–Fleming model, while it had a negative impact from 1937 to 1945. The trade deficit had a positive impact on the fiscal deficit from 1940 to 1942, from 1959 to 1975 and from 1981 to 1994, mainly due to the World War II, oil crisis and trade friction with Japan. It means that the fiscal policy of American federal government can affect the external imbalance.

Purpose: The economy in the MSME sector is experiencing a great crisis in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. MSME actors must change strategies to adapt to the current pandemic conditions. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Covid 19 on the economy and performance of MSMEs as well as the strategies adopted by MSME players in Bangka Belitung Province. Research methodology: The data collection method employed probability sampling with google form media analyzed by using cross tabulation, trend analysis and simple mathematical modeling in projecting total economic losses to MSMEs that are active in the Bangka Belitung Island Province. Results: The results show that 84.7 percent of MSMEs experienced a negative impact due to the Covid 19 pandemic in the form of a decrease in sales turnover, reduced demand and hampered distribution of raw materials. However, 15.3 percent of MSMEs experienced a positive impact and survived in the Covid 19 pandemic conditions. Some of the strategies implemented by MSMEs to survive in the Covid 19 periods were replacing products sold with products for handling COVID 19 such as masks, hand sanitizers and others. MSME players also changed their sales strategy by selling online and maintaining customer databases. Limitation: Due to the Covid-19 condition, survey activities were carried out by using the Google Form online application. Contribution: MSMEs undertook a more aggressive marketing strategy to maintain turnover value in order to keep growing. Keywords: Covid-19, MSME, Turnover, Competitive strategy

The paper analyzed the long-term and short-term impact of interest rate, exchange rate and inflation on the private sector credit of Pakistan during the period from 1975 to 2018. To test the stationarity of data Augmented Dick Fuller (ADF) Test was applied. While the main model to explore the long-term and short-term dependence was based on Auto Regressive Distribution Lag (ARDL) Model. The results suggested no effect of exchange rate on private sector credit, while inflation has significant as well as positive impact on Private Sector Credit (PSC) in long as well as short run. Lastly, the most important dependence i.e. interest effect on PSC; depicted negative impact in both short and long term.

Motivation and anxiety have been a recurring theme of debates in sport and understand its relevance to competitive practice and the effects on athletes become essential. This study aimed to investigate the impact of intrinsic motivation on the anxiety of wheelchair handball (WH) athletes. The Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) and the Sport Anxiety Scale (SAS) were applied to 37 male athletes (34.18 ± 9.32 years), physically disabled, participating in the Brazilian WH championship. Data analysis was conducted through Shapiro Wilk test, Pearson correlation and Multiple Regression (p<0.05). As a result, the subscales of intrinsic motivation showed high scores both in the subscales that contribute positively (Pleasure/Interest, Competence and Perception of effort), and in the subscale that contributes negatively (Pressure/Tension). Regarding the impact of motivation on competitive anxiety, the athlete feeling competent explained inversely 15% of the somatic anxiety variance. Competence had a negative impact and Pressure/Tension had a positive impact on the Concern subscale. In addition, the pleasure/Interest, Pressure/Tension and Perception of Effort subscales explained 31% of the variance of Concentration Disorder, indicating that the greater the perception of pleasure from practice and effort in the face of tasks, the less disturbances in concentration, and the higher the pressure/tension score (less pressure perception), the greater the disturbance of the athlete's concentration. It was concluded that intrinsic motivation is a determinant factor for the control of competitive anxiety in WH athletes.

This study aims to determine and analyze the effects ofIndonesian Rupiah exchange rate, world oil prices, and world gold priceson IDX Composite in 2016. This research utilizedGeneralized Auto-Regressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) method on 234 daily observations throughout the whole year. This study results demonstrated that the Indonesian Rupiah exchange rate has a significant and negative impact, while the world gold and oil prices have a significant and positive impact on the IDX Composite in 2016. In addition to these results, the discovery and usage of GARCH method as the optimum econometric model found the variance of residuals of IDX Composite in 2016, which is also affected by the previous day residuals, but it is not affected by the variance of previous days residuals.

The problem of unemployment has become a worrisome issue over the past few years as it is growing at an alarming state in many countries throughout the world particularly in developing countries such as Malaysia. There are numerous factors that cause this phenomenon. Therefore, the aim of this study is to empirically investigate the determinants of unemployment in Malaysia as well as the relationship between unemployment and the chosen fundamental macroeconomic factors such as gross domestic product, foreign direct investment, inflation, and population. This study utilized the annual time series data of 31 year period starting from the year 1985 to the year 2015. The methodology of econometric analysis have been applied in this study such as unit root tests, co-integration test, vector error correction model, variance decompositions, and impulse response functions analysis. The findings showed that there are presences of short run causality among the variables and also a presence of long run only when population act as the dependent variable in the model. Besides, the findings indicate that GDP has a significant negative impact whereas FDI has a significant positive impact on unemployment in Malaysia. Overall, the conclusion of this study suggests that demand side policies and supply side policies are the most excellent and suitable approach in overcoming the problem of unemployment in Malaysia.

A large and positive relationship is found to exist in the long-run between Public Investment Expenditures and Firm Investment which shows that public investment crowds in private investment using ARDL model at macroeconomic level on the Mexican service sector over the period 2000-2016. I also use the system-GMM PVAR to analyse the impact of microeconomic variables on firm investment. Exports have a strong and positive impact while Imports have a large and negative impact on firm investment. At the microeconomic level, taxes payments slightly obstruct firm investment. Using impulse response functions, I find that long-run macroeconomic policies are more important than short-run macroeconomic policies and that macroeconomic policies are more important than microeconomic policies for firm’s investment decisions.

Executive Summary A healthy financial system is important for the growth process of an economy. It affects growth by influencing the saving, investment and technological innovations. In fact, researchers argue that low-income countries like Nepal need a much more robust and active financial system when compared to the developed world. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between financial development and economic growth using annual time series data for Nepal during the period 1984–2014. Because Nepal has a bank-based economy, the study used credit issued by banking and financial institutions to the private sector as the proxy for financial development. The economic growth has been measured using real gross domestic product (GDP) growth and real GDP per capita growth (constant 2005 US$). The autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach is used to investigate the cointegration among variables in the presence of structural breaks. The study used Zivot and Andrews’ (ZA) unit root test in order to find the structural breaks in the variables. The study finds that the structural change in private credit took place in 2007 when the government of Nepal and Maoists (the then rebels) signed a Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the Maoist rebels joined the interim government, which formally ended the 10 years long civil war in Nepal. Similarly, the study observes break points in real GDP growth and per capita growth in 2001 when the Royal Massacre and a state of emergency took place in Nepal. After allowing for structural breaks, the study finds evidence of a cointegration relationship between financial development and economic growth when economic growth is used as the dependent variable. Thus, it can be argued that the long-run causality is unidirectional from financial development to economic growth in Nepal. The estimates of the ARDL approach suggest that financial development has a significant positive impact on economic growth in both long run and short run. However, the estimates show that gross domestic saving, a control variable, has a negative impact on economic growth in Nepal. It clearly indicates that Nepal has long not been able to utilize the savings in the productive sector. The political instability, poor investment policies and securities and hence the lack of foreign investment and lack of technological innovations could be the causes for Nepal not benefiting from the country’s savings. It is also found that trade openness has a negative relationship with economic growth in the long run: possibly the cause of the persistent trade deficit of Nepal with the rest of the world. However, in the short run, the result shows a positive relationship between trade openness and growth. In fact, it is found that the magnitude of the positive impact of trade openness in the short run is higher than the magnitude of its negative impact in the long run. Thus, the policymakers should give more emphasis on trade and investment policies that could reduce the prolonged trade deficit and help the nation in getting long-term benefits from international trade.

This study aims to formulate a communication model to build the readiness of changes in traditional market traders. This research is related to traditional market revitalization plan to face competition especially from modern retailer. The method used is survey which result is analyzed by using causality approach with LISREL tool and reinforced with result from depth interview. The result is in the picture that in the face of revitalization, traders are in a situation of uncertainty. On the other hand, overall elements ranging from trader characteristics, message sources, messages, and participatory communications have a positive impact on merchant readiness associated with revitalization with high-capacity merchant corporation conditions. However, to build the readiness of traders, the main thing to do is to build the entrepreneurial capacity of traders. The lack of success in building entrepreneurial capacity has a negative impact on the readiness of traders. Appropriate communication models involving market managers as a credible source of messages, message content on the benefits and risks of effective revitalization develop the trader's motivation to change, and the media that permits immediate responses from communication actors.

In the face of dissatisfaction with the quality of public water supply, there is significant ‘willingness-to-pay’ for improved services. However, pressuring authorities for public sector investments in water quality services is not the only means at the disposal of households to bring about improvements in drinking water quality. On the one hand, households can invest in purification systems at the level of the individual household. On the other, they can consume bottled water for their drinking needs. Based on a survey of 10,000 households, this paper analyses the determinants of a household's decision to purchase bottled water or invest in a purification system. Negative perceptions of tap water quality (health and taste concerns) affect the decision to purchase bottled water and home purification, with much greater effect on bottled water consumption. The same is true of household income. Household size, the presence of children in the household and length of residence affects the decision to invest in purification, but not bottled water consumption. Concern about solid waste has a negative impact on bottled water consumption, and car ownership has a positive impact.
