The main objective of the present research is to identify the advantages and benefits that the use and implementation of 5G technology has on the development and evolution of the Romanian business environment. The study is based on a theoretical documentation regarding existing information in the field and a descriptive analysis of the evolution of the technology in Romania and worldwide. The research method chosen is a survey based on an opinion poll (questionnaire) to find out the availability of economic entities regarding the implementation of 5G technologies, the foreseen expectations and those realized by the business environment regarding the effects of 5G technologies on the economic activities and the benefits that 5G networks offer them. The analysis of the results of the questionnaire, through the correlations and contingency tables determined, allowed the validation of the research hypotheses, and the results show availability and interest for the implementation of 5G technology (over 69% agree with the 5G implementation over a period of up to 5 years), conditioned by the costs, the high degree of cyber security, and the competitive advantages it can generate. Competition, low productivity, and even external pressures are the main decisive factors in the implementation of 5G. Thus, it can be considered useful to extend the research by identifying possible viable solutions or alternatives, customized for the implementation of 5G technologies for economic entities from different sectors, as well as the analysis of the implementation costs and the potential economic benefits.

Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) that arose from World War II developments has become one of the most attractive management tools to the business environment yet has faced scarce current applicability. This study analyses the opinion of specialists engaged in the industry, trade and logistics management of diverse economic segments with views to presenting an amplified perspective of this technologies current and future behaviour, as well as its inclusion within the corporate environment. The subject matter of choice derives from the author’s personal curiosity, as leveraged by numerous publications that failed to reveal coincidental opinions and operational approaches concerning the use of this technology. This seems to have found ground given the lack of technical knowledge within both the business community and the public in general and, undoubtedly, considering its high implementation costs.  The research, of bibliographical nature, concludes that effectively there are favourable and unfavourable opinions concerning this technology’s application at the surveyed industries and organizations, although most acknowledge its high potential business management efficiency and effectiveness. It is understood that only a favourable evolution of economic activities will promote the necessary investments and drive players into furthering in-depth studies concerning the varied RFID possibilities in addition to analysing the strategic convenience of its application. Economic activities, and more intensely the business environment, are being pressured to direct their actions towards sustainable performance, more specifically in its social and environmental facets. One of the alternatives to deal with these pressures is innovation. In this paper, we present results of a study conducted on the electrical and electronics industry operating in Brazil in order to examine the relationship between innovation and sustainable performance. The methodology adopted was the strategy of cross-sectional survey, conducted in 112 electrical and electronic manufacturing companies of all sizes and from all regions of Brazil. Data analysis was carried out mainly through Cronbach’s Alpha reliability analysis of scales, descriptive analysis of measures, and especially cluster analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The main results categorise the companies into more sustainable, less sustainable and relatively sustainable, according to their performance profiles. The study shows that the companies in the sample categorised as more sustainable are more prone to innovation and to be collaborative to innovation than the others. These results indicate the importance of the relationship between innovation and sustainable performance, as highlighted by Barbieri (2007), Barbieri et al. (2010), Carvalho and Barbieri (2010), Scandelari (2011) and Scandelari and Cunha (2011). But of greater relevance is the relationship between collaboration and sustainable performance. This fact has not yet been demonstrated empirically, but has been highlighted by Hartman, Hofman and Stafford (1999), Fadeeva (2004), Petzel, Archer and Fei (2010), Bos-Brouwers (2010), Murray, Haynes and Hudson (2010) and especially by Sarkis, Lamb and Brust (2010). The study contributes to the advancement of knowledge of the relationship between innovation and sustainable performance from empirical evidences, providing information on this relationship in Brazilian companies.

The aim of this paper was the evaluation of the impact of selected background conditions for implementing the smart village concept in the opinion of entrepreneurs. The assessment was based on an opinion poll on a sample of 240 entrepreneurs from three regions of Eastern Poland, using a questionnaire. The results were presented using descriptive analysis, including a comparative analysis of areas with low and high levels of smart growth potential. The presented results show that rural areas in the abovementioned regions, in general, create disadvantageous conditions for enhancing innovativeness through business activity, and the surveyed agents are characterised by a low level of innovativeness. In the opinion of the surveyed entrepreneurs, on the impact of selected factors on enterprise innovativeness, the potential impact of the local environment is above average. The findings point to a need to develop the endogenous potential of rural areas from peripheral regions by increasing access to modern ITC infrastructure and the role of the institutional environment in the process of knowledge transfer to the local sector of companies, the development of local connections in the business sector and within the scope of cooperation of local authorities with entrepreneurs.

The housing environment that appears in many urban areas today, is available in the form of real estate and in the form of simple housing. The existence of these houses is equipped with supporting infrastructure. One of them is the availability of open space as a public facility, which can be utilized by all residents of housing. If you look at the historical aspects of past traditional settlements, such as the Tanean Lanjang Madura settlement, the Samin Bojonegoro Community Village, the Sumatra Karo Batak Village, and so on, it is found that there is open space as a public space. Where the function and role of open space are used for joint activities, gathering places and socializing, as well as the center of orientation of several groups of houses, so that the location tends to be in the center. The purpose of this study is to see the existence of open space of traditional settlements (past) and present. As well as analyzing the activities carried out by the pas community and its current development. By using the method of field observation (observation) and qualitative descriptive analysis, the results show that the existence of open space in the present, such as in residential or residential groups, still exists. If in the past traditional settlements, the existence of open spaces was used as a means to gather and socialize, then in its current development, open space could be used as a means of playing and exercising for children, recreational activities (gathering on holidays), supported economic activities (traders who sell), as well as a means of worship (Eid al-Fitr / Eid al-Adha). This shows the development and diversity of functions and activities in the open space, so that its utilization can increase economic values, religious values and other social values.

Data on the daily activity of private cars form the basis of many studies in the field of transportation engineering. In the past, in order to obtain such data, a large number of collection techniques based on travel diaries and driver interviews were used. Telematics applied to vehicles and to a broad range of economic activities has opened up new opportunities for transportation engineers, allowing a significant increase in the volume and detail level of data collected. One of the options for obtaining information on the daily activity of private cars now consists of processing data from automated vehicle monitoring (AVM). Therefore, in this context, and in order to explore the opportunity offered by telematics, this paper presents a methodology for obtaining origin–destination flows through basic info extracted from AVM/floating car data (FCD). Then, the benefits of such a procedure are evaluated through its implementation in a real test case, i.e., the Veneto region in northern Italy where full-day AVM/FCD data were available with about 30,000 vehicles surveyed and more than 388,000 trips identified. Then, the goodness of the proposed methodology for O-D flow estimation is validated through assignment to the road network and comparison with traffic count data. Taking into account aspects of vehicle-sampling observations, this paper also points out issues related to sample representativeness, both in terms of daily activities and spatial coverage. A preliminary descriptive analysis of the O-D flows was carried out, and the analysis of the revealed trip patterns is presented.
