Kualanamu International Airport is the busiest airport in Sumatra. In 2015, it served 8 million passengers and 41.6 thousand tons of goods for international and domestic flights. Hub-spoke networks are optimized when generally having a transport efficiency of at least 49-52% as well as providing air service in a wide geographic area and to many destinations. The aim of this study is to analyse the hub-spoke airport networks based on the Herfindahl-Hirschmann Index (HHI) to increase air transport efficiency in Sumatra Island. This study uses data from cargo production and couple’s flights from 10 airports in Sumatra Island for domestic flight route pairs and 6 airports for international flight route pairs. The results of the study show that route networks in Sumatra Island in existing conditions have not developed with the hub-spokes concept. The HHI analysis, indicates 2 hubs for domestic flights and 1 hub (Kualanamu) for international flights. Kualanamu International Airport and Hang Nadim International Airport were indicated as hub airports in Sumatra Island for domestic flights. The efficiency of air cargo transportation through the system (2 hubs and 8 spokes) results in a transport efficiency at 68.37%, which is still far above the efficient range at 49-52%.

Abstract Distilling industry is among the traditional sectors of the food industry. It is a significant producers of agricultural primary production and the most stable component of demand in the labour market. Among all the sectors of the food industry, however, it is subject to the greatest extent of the regulation of the business by state, when a crucial component of regulation is the legal regulation of the selection of the excise tax on alcohol. Given the considerable degree of regulation of excise taxes on alcoholic beverages by one of the secondary law of the EU, it is considered appropriate to assess the level of transposition of basic elements of excise tax on alcohol, as defined by literature, into the legal order of the Slovak Republic.

SummaryWhen an object is held by a multi-fingered hand, the values of the contact forces can be multivalued. An objective function, when used in conjunction with the frictional and geometric constraints of the grasp, can however, give a unique set of finger force values. The selection of the objective function in determining the finger forces is dependent on the type of grasp required, the material properties of the object, and the limitations of the röbot fingers. In this paper several optimization functions are studied and their merits highlighted. The paper introduces a graphical representation of the finger force values and the objective functions that enable one to select and compare various grasping configurations. The impending motion of the object at different torque and finger force values are determined by observing the normalized coefficient of friction plots.

Purpose Deregulation of domestic markets and the liberalization of international markets have dramatically changed air transportation. One of the important results of this change is the environmental effects of air transportation. This study aims to examine the implications of air transportation on environmental sustainability in the context of airline business strategies in liberalized and globalized air transport industry. Design/methodology/approach The paper discusses the relationship between liberalization, airline strategies and environmental sustainability of air transportation using the related literature. Then, to show some environmental impacts on the axis of the relationship discussed, emission rates for the aircraft landing and take-off phase were calculated on a global basis based on the aircraft traffic. Findings The discussion in the paper shows that the liberalization policies and the strategies of airlines supported by these policies, in essence, contradict the environmental sustainability of air transport. Considering the flight share projections of EUROCONTROL for different aircraft types on a global basis and the World Bank’s global flight traffic forecast for the years 2016 and 2025, it has been demonstrated that the number of aircraft departures will increase by 30%, whilst the number of aircraft emissions will increase by 41.5%. Practical implications Airlines are one of the main actors that will play a role in reducing the environmental impacts of air transportation. Therefore, this study is important in giving an idea to both policymakers and airline managers on how airline companies’ strategies should be shaped to realize both corporate sustainability and environmentally sustainable air transportation. Originality/value There are many studies in the literature regarding the environmental effects of air transport. However, there are not many studies linking environmental impacts with airline strategies that directly affect air transport demand. This study is different in that it gives environmental sustainability by associating it with its root causes.

The new Yogyakarta International Airport began operations with an airport area of 645.63 hectares with a capacity of 14 million passengers a year. Access to the Yogyakarta international airport is distributed to 4 routes to the airport at Wates national road, Karangnongko road, the Southern Cross Road, Daendels road which is using the railroad mode. This study uses revealed preference analysis which is the approach by conveying a fact choice statement to be given an assessment by the respondent. The sample collection is assumed by the peak passenger of the Adisucipto airport, because the Yogyakarta International Airport is recently opened. It is expected to be able to represent demand predictions at the Yogyakarta International airport in the future. The results of the questionnaire were then processed by using statistical analysis to determine the factors that influence the selection of transportation modes to and from the airport. In research, the factors that influence mode choice are travel costs, travel time, travel distance, and generalized costs. The results illustrate that prospective air transport users are more dominant in choosing travel cost attributes compared to other attributes that influence. With the coefficient of determination is 0.528 and the results of data analysis for the selection of mode of transportation using private vehicles is 57% and public transportation is 43%..

<p>Abstract<br />This article aims to find out how legal protection is provided to passengers in commercial air transport <br />activities in Indonesia, especially regarding airline responsibilities to passengers and the compensation <br />provided in case of flight delays due to negligence of the carrier. This research is performed with legal <br />research, using prescriptive characteristic. The research is using statute approach by reviewing the <br />regulations related to the issues. The source of the research is derived from primary legal materials namely <br />legislation, secondary materials from legal literatures, as well as tertiary or non-legal legal material. The <br />collection of legal materials was done by literature studies, and analyzed with deductive reasoning patterns. <br />Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the regulation of compensations given by <br />the airlines to passengers has been quite well regulated in the Minister of Transportation Regulation <br />No. 89 of 2015, but in the implementation, the government is still less firm in cracking down on airlines <br />that do not carry out their responsibility of the compensation regulated in Regulation of the Minister of <br />Transportation Number 77 in year 2011.<br />Keywords: compensation; flight delay; commercial air transportation.</p><p>Abstrak<br />Artikel ini bertujuan mengetahui bagaimana perlindungan hukum yang diberikan kepada penumpang <br />dalam kegiatan angkutan udara komersial di Indonesia, khususnya mengenai tanggung jawab maskapai <br />penerbangan terhadap penumpang serta apa kompensasi yang diberikan apabila terjadi penundaan <br />penerbangan karena kelalaian pihak pengangkut.

This paper analyzes the civil responsibility of air transport carriers in accordance with the “Unification Convention Rules for International Air Transportation”. The matter of civil responsibility is a complicated and conflicting theme for analysis due to the difficulty even greater to the additional problem of having to define responsibilities when a disaster of great proportions takes place. Contrary to other modes of transportation, in the case of air transport there is rarely partial damage (when an accident occurs), therefore it is important to remember that in an aeronautical accident, the damages (or sinister) are not partial, they are total. On the other hand, should be considered that the airline industry is global, in which parts of a whole can come from distant countries involving partners from different countries with different realities and legal liability. The existence of joint responsibility of partners involved in the airline industry is what is meant to identify with this article.
