The mangrove play an important role in protection of beach from wave, wind and hurricane. The pole of mangrove can protect home, building and agriculture from bad wind or water intrution. Mangrove forest are green belt have already destroyed and exploited illegally. Thus the penetrate of wave can destroyed many home, land inundated the agriculture. The activities were conducted in 5 November 2018 in Senior High School 1 Samatiga. The empowerment activity including the socialization of mangrove forest role to student of SMAN 1 Samatiga. The conducting method with using extension directly. There are working stage to solve the problem including the survey, exploration activity, the socialization and MONEV. The material of the socialization that we deliver such as the introduction of mangrove species Samatiga area and survey activities as well as the exploration of mangrove ecosystem. The aims of this activity is to introduce directly regarding mangrove ecosystem to student.

ABSTRAK Mangrove merupakan tumbuhan yang hidup di daerah pasang surut sebagai ekosistem interface antara daratan dengan lautan. Ekosistem mangrove di desa Pasar Banggi Kabupaten Rembang merupakan perpaduan antara mangrove alami dan hasil rehabilitasi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kondisi mangrove di Desa Pasar Banggi, Rembang dilihat dari  komposisi jenis, kerapatan dan ketebalan mangrove serta menganalisis tingkat kesesuaian wisata mangrove di Desa Pasar Banggi, Rembang. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survey lapangan yang bersifat eksploratif, dimana  teknis pengumpulan data menggunakan sistematik sampling. Data yang diambil meliputi 5 variabel yaitu: jenis, kerapatan mangrove dan asosiasi biota (hasil pengamatan lapangan dan perbandingan dari penelitian terdahulu), ketebalan (citra Google Earth Oktober 2016), pasang surut (data BMKG Oktober 2016). Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada 3 stasiun, dimana setiap stasiun terdapat 3 titik sampling. Komposisi jenis mangrove di desa Pasar Banggi terdapat 3 jenis mangrove yaitu Rhizopora stylosa, R. mucronata, dan R. Apiculata, dengan kerapatan mangrove tertinggi yaitu 62 ind/100m2 dan ketebalan mangrove tertinggi sepanjang 139 m. Kondisi hutan mangrove desa Pasar Banggi termasuk dalam kategori sesuai (S2) untuk kegiatan wisata berkelanjutan di Kabupaten Rembang. ABSTRACT Mangroves are plants that grow in a tidal areas an interface ecosystems between terrestrial and marine. Mangrove ecosystem in the Pasar Banggi Village,  Rembang Regency is a combination results of natural mangrove and rehabilitation. The purpose of this study were to determine condition of mangroves in the Pasar Banggi Village, Rembang, seen from the species composition, density and thickness of mangroves and to analyze the suitability level of mangrove tourism in the Pasar Banggi Village, Rembang. The method used in this study was an exploratory survey method, data collected using systematic sampling techniques. Mangrove tourism data collection was carried out of 5 variables, i.e.: type of mangrove, density of mangroves and associations of biota (from observations and comparisons of previous studies), thickness (Google Earth image October 2016), tides (data BMKG October 2016). Sampling was conducted at 3 stations, each station has 3 sampling points. The composition of mangrove species in Pasar Banggi village consists of 3 types of mangroves, namely Rhizopora stylosa, R. mucronata, and R. Apiculata, with the highest density of mangrove 62 ind / 100m2 and the highest thickness of mangrove along 139 m. The condition of mangrove forest in the Pasar Banggi village was included in the appropriate category (S2) for sustainable tourism activities in the Rembang Regency.

Sakartemin is one of the village Fakfak Regency which has naturally growing mangrove forest. However, due to the economic development, the government should build up some infrastructures near by those mangrove forest. The disturbance nearby mangrove ecosystem cause changes in structure and composition of mangrove vegetation. This study aims to identify the types of mangrove vegetation and to find out the structure and composition of mangrove forest in Sakartemin Village, Central Fakfak District, Fakfak Regency. The method that used in this study is vegetation survey method combining path and checkered line method. The result shown that mangrove species in the sakartemin village consist of 5 families, namely: Rhizophoraceae, Meliaceae, Soneratiaceae,  Pandanaceae, and Myrsinaceae which consists of 7 species namely: Rhizophora stylosa, R. apiculata, Xylocarpus granatum, Soneratia alba, Bruguiera gymnhoriza, Pandanus sp., and Aegiceras corniculatum. At the seedling level found 1002 individuals, sapling level found 404 individuals, and tree level found 319 individuals. The highest importance value index (IVI) at seedling level was R. stylosa 55.41% and the lowest was A. corniculatum 9.49%. The highest IVI at sapling level was R. apiculata 57.72% and the lowest was Pandanus 5.49%. The highest IVI at the tree level was R. apiculata 88.62% and the lowest was B. gymnhoriza 42.45%.Key words: Sakartemin village; mangrove; structure; composition; Fakfak.

Mangrove forests are tropical coastal vegetation communities, which has the ability to grow in coastal area with tidal and muddy environment. Several functions of mangrove forest such as ecological functions can be used for coastal protection, trapping sediment and strengthen the coastal ecosystems. Coastal waters in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara have natural mangrove ecosystem with a huge potency and advantages to the region. This study aimed to understand the condition of mangrove ecosystem based on satellite image analysis of Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) in 2014 and assess the potency, information related to the utilization by community. Data collection in this study were combined from satellite imagery interpretation with interview and questionnaires. The results showed that the mangrove forest extent in Dompu Regency Coastal Waters were about 90,631 ha with uniformity index 0.68 (medium uniformity). Two mangrove species were found in the region namely Rhizopora stylosa and Rhizopora apiculata and used by the community for several purposes such as firewood, natural coastal protection from tidal, waves and abrasion, also for crabs and fish spawning ground.

Abstract. Warui MW, Manohar S, Obade P. 2020. Current status, utilization, succession and zonation of mangrove ecosystem along Mida Creek, Coast Province, Kenya. Bonorowo Wetlands 10: 32-43. Human activities have resulted in the destruction of mangrove forests, posing a threat to the mangrove ecosystem and the living things that rely on it. From September 2009 through February 2010, researchers studied the current state, usage, succession, and zonation of the mangrove ecosystem along Mida Creek in Kenya's Coast Province. The goals were to assess changes in the floristic composition of the mangrove forest, identify the most preferred mangrove species, investigate whether accessibility determines utilization of mangrove species, investigate whether harvesting of mangroves affects their succession, and investigate the effectiveness of current mangrove forest management policies. The data was collected using the Point-Centered Quarter Method (PCQM) to see if access into the mangrove forest influences their use and if mangrove succession is affected by their use. To evaluate the efficiency of government policies/legislation governing mangrove exploitation and the most favored mangrove species by the local community and other users, questionnaires were circulated and interviews were conducted. Out of the 210 houses in Mida Creek, 136 respondents were interviewed, one from each household. To examine the temporal changes in the floristic composition of the mangrove forest, two sets of aerial images (1992 and 2006) were processed and interpreted. The data from the questionnaires were coded and entered into the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to see if the accessibility of mangroves influences their use. To see if the utilization of mangroves affects their succession, researchers used regression analysis. To evaluate the forest structure, an importance value was derived. To summarize the present mangrove forest management policies and their effectiveness, descriptive statistics were used. Between 1992 and 2006, the floristic composition of the mangrove forest in Mida Creek changed; the area covered by mangroves decreased as follows: Rhizophora mucronata (Rm); 65.09-63.93ha; Avicennia marina (Am); 344.99-310.63ha; Ceriops tagal (Ct); 225.12-223.82ha; Rm and Ct; 52.87-50.22ha; Ct and Am; 143.69- 140.29ha; Rm and Am; 44.36-41.27ha; Rm and Bg; 212.75-199.75ha; Rm and Sonneratia alba (Sa); 47.64-46.32ha; Rm, Ct and Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (Bg); 129.07-128.12ha; Rm, Am, Ct, and Bg; 472.44-428.46ha. The number of cut mangroves in the adjacent settlements, center, and shoreline revealed a significant difference (F=3.277; df=2; p=0.040) in the ANOVA test, indicating that accessibility determines consumption. The most favored mangrove species was Rhizophora mucronata, according to the findings. There was a correlation between the number of mangrove seedlings and the number of cut mangroves (F=8.529, df=1, R=0.198, P=0.004), according to regression analysis. The use of mangroves has an impact on their succession. Mangrove utilization policies and legislation have been less effective. The key species in Mida Creek were Rhizophora mucronata and Ceriops tagal. The extent of mangrove forests in Mida Creek has shrunk over time.

Abstrak : Rehabilitasi mangrove merupakan salah satu upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengurangi laju kerusakan hutan mangrove di Indonesia salah satunya di kawasan Teluk Gerupuk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi mangrove hasil rehabilitasi di Teluk Gerupuk dengan mebandingkan struktur vegetasi mangrove di kawasan tersebut dengan ekosistem mangrove alami. Pelaksanaan penelitian dilakukan pada bulan April-Juni 2019 di dua kawasan hutan mangrove di pesisir selatan pulau Lombok yaitu hutan mangrove alami desa Pemongkong dan hutan mangrove rehabilitasi Teluk Gerupuk. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode transek berpetak dengan ukuran petak 10 x 10 m untuk tipe pohon, sub petak 5 x 5 m untuk tipe pancang, dan petak semai berukuran 2 x 2 m. Terdapat 11 spesies mangrove ditemukan di dalam plot penelitian dengan persebaran spesies yaitu 8 spaesies ditemukan di hutan mangrove alami Pemongkong dan hanya 7 spesies ditemukan di hutan mangrove rehabilitasi Gerupuk. Spesies mangrove yang dimaksud termasuk ke dalam 4 famili yaitu Avicenniaceae (Avicennia alba, A. marina, A. lanata), Rhizophoraceae (Ceriops decandra, C. tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata, R. stylosa), Rubiaceae (Scyphiphora hydrophyllaceae) dan Sonneratiaceae (Sonneratia alba, S. casiolaris). Struktur vegetasi kedua ekosistem sangat berbeda terlihat pada vegetasi penyusunnya. Hutan mangrove alami Pemongkong didominasi oleh jenis Sonneratia alba dan Avicennia alba yang memiliki Indeks nilai penting (INP) untuk tipe pohon dan pancang dengan nilai masing-masing 132,37 dan 141,52, sedangkan hutan mangrove rehabilitasi didapatkan INP tertinggi pada tipe pohon dan pancang yaitu jenis R. apiculata dan R. stylosa dengan INP berturut-turut 140,5 dan 116,41. Rehabilitasi hutan mangrove dengan metode yang selama ini dilakukan telah mengubah struktur vegetasi hutan mangrove di Pulau Lombok yang juga dapat mempengaruhi fauna asosiasi dan ekosistem sekitar mangrove. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan perencanaan serta analisis terlebih dahulu terhadap lokasi tujuan rehabilitasi mangrove agar untuk terbentuknya hutan mangrove rehabilitasi yang lebih sesuai dengan biota asosiasi dan ekosistem sekitar yang telah ada sebelumnya.Kata Kunci : Struktur Komunitas, Mangrove, Alami, RehabilitasiAbstract : Rehabilitation of mangrove vegetation was an effort in order to decrease the rate of mangrove ecosystem destruction. This research aimed to determine the vegetation structure and the community status of natural and rehabilitation mangrove forest at South Lombok seashore. This research held on March – June 2019 at two types of mangrove ecosystem such as natural ecosystem at pemongkong, East Lombok and rehabilitation ecosystem at Gerupuk bay, Central Lombok. Data collection used plotted transect method by placed a plot sized 10x 10 m alternately. There are 11 species of mangrove found which belong to 4 families such as Avicenniaceae (Avicennia alba, A. marina, A. lanata), Rhizophoraceae (Ceriops decandra, C. tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, R. mucronata, R. stylosa), Rubiaceae (Scyphiphora hydrophyllaceae) and Sonneratia (Sonneratia alba, S. casiolaris). Vegetation structure in these 2 location was different based on the composition each vegetation and it proportion. Natural mangrove forest in pemongkong dominated by Sonneratia alba with importance value reached 132,37, meanwhile the rehabilitation area of mangrove ecosystem Gerupuk dominated by Rhizophora apiculata with number of importance value reached 140,5. These differences drove the value of persent of similarity (PS) between these ecosystem only reached 10.41% which categorized as low similarity. Mostly of rehabilitation of mangrove ecosystem conducted cause the alteration of vegetation structure of mangrove in Lombok coastal and affect the mangrove associated fauna and ecosystems. In that case, it really important to analys the condition of mangrove rehabilitation plan location to determine the mangrove species to plant in order to formed a rehabilitiation of mangrove area which more compatible to its associated biota and ecosystems.Keyword : Structure, Mangrove, Natural, Rehabilitation

Mangrove forests have important ecological functions as a controller of environmental quality in coastal areas and absorber of atmospheric carbon. The mangrove ecosystem has a unique vegetation structure which form vegetation zonation that consists of different forest stands characteristics and tree species. This study aims to analyze the relationship between vegetation structural properties and the estimated aboveground carbon (AGC) stock of mangrove forest in Bedul mangrove, Banyuwangi, East Java, Indonesia. The study was conducted by field observation at some purposively selected sample locations. Field measurement was aimed to collect data about mangrove tree diameter at breast height (DBH), species, tree height, and fractional canopy cover. Mangrove biomass was indirectly calculated by allometric method based on mangrove species to estimate AGC in mangrove stands. The highest total AGC found in this study was 114.09 tons/ha at Rhizophora mucronata dominated forest, while the lowest total AGC was 12.86 tons/ha with Ceriops tagal as the dominant species. The AGC estimation in mangrove stands correlated positively with DBH and tree height. However, the biomass content and AGC are affected by the number of mangrove stands. The difference in the number of stands affect the amount of carbon content at each sample point.

Langsa City is mostly in the form of land and coastal areas, especially the Kuala Langsa area which has the potential to be developed into an ecotourism development area because the mangrove ecosystem is still natural and preserved. This study aims to determine the level of land suitability for the development of mangrove forest ecotourism in Kuala Langsa. Primary data in the form of mangrove density, mangrove thickness, types of mangroves, tides, and biota objects were obtained through observation at 6 observation locations using Purposive sampling and Line transect point methods, while secondary data included geographical conditions, and tidal data obtained through literature studies. Vegetation data were analyzed by calculating plant species density and tourism suitability analyzed using tourism suitability index (IKW). Mangrove species found at the study site included, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia caseolaris and Xylocarpus granatum. The results showed that the IKW value of 60% included in the S2 category (as appropriate). The limiting factor is the density of mangroves which only have a value of 8 with the S3 conformity category (as conditional). With the limiting factor is the density of mangroves which only have a value of 4 with the suitability category S3 (not suitable). As for suggestions that can be given to the manager of Kuala Langsa mangrove forest Ecotourism so that the existence of Ecotourism can be sustainable is the need for Pentahelix Synergy in the management of the ecotourism.

The coastal Area of Kuala Bubon subdistrict, Samatiga District, West Aceh regency, Aceh Province have several mangrove species including Rhizoporastylosa, RhizoporaapiculataBI andNypa fruticans. Aceh is popular with epithet “ Serambi Mekkah” that is the only province in Indonesia that stipulated sharia to the Aceh community. The local goverment regulation was designed according to islamic sharia. Dependent rule in Aceh Area is named Qanun Aceh. Therefore, it is neccessary to undertaken a approach to change gradually their mindset for keeping mangrove ecosystem through dakwah media and real action. The main problem in Kuala Bubon’s community are lack of awareness and wide understanding regarding management of mangrove forest sustainable. Otherwise, the involvement and socialization of mangrove conservation with periodically with coastal community is still poor that  undertaken by stakeholder. The purpose of this program is to give undertanding and knowledge regarding forest mangrove conservation that involved cleric and community figure. These programs that is conducted including seedings from natural. Subsequently, we involved local community in da’wah that is conducted in Ramadhan Month. Forincreasing the knowledge about mangrove conservation, we conducted extension activity that attended by local government and coastal community. According to deliberation, we conducted the planting of mangrove seeds in nearby Nurul Iman mosque as green belt. Otherwise, we also give them sedekah to Nurul Iman organizer for development of Nurul Iman Mosque as da’wah media for Kuala Bubon’s community.

Critical land is a land whose soil condition has experienced or is in the process of physical, chemical, or biological damage which ultimately endangers hydrological, orological functions, and agricultural production. This research purposes were to determine the level of criticality of mangrove ecosystems, as the basis for sustainable management. Determination and delineation of the location were carried out photogrammetrically using Landsat 7 ETM + Band 542 imagery and maps, as well as terrestrial by direct measurement in the field. The species inventory and identification, tree/pole potency, saplings and seedlings used the line plot sampling and spot check methods. The results showed that the mangrove ecosystem area was of 577.07 ha, condition of dense (uncritical) vegetation reached an area of 138.16 ha (23.94%), followed by a rare (critical) condition of 286.63 ha (49.67%), while a damaged condition (very critical) 152.28 ha (26.39%). The dominant mangrove species were Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, Avicenia marina, and Rhizophora mucronata. The main determinant of the mangrove ecosystems criticality was the mangrove cover area reduction as the non-mangrove land (ponds) impacts. To improve the quality of mangrove forest ecosystems, sustainable conservation is needed, one of which is the preparation of basic mangrove critical data and community empowerment. They are needed to restore, maintain and improve the function of forests and mangrove forest lands in order to increase their carrying capacity, productivity and their role in maintaining life support systems through rehabilitation programs.
