One of the goals of teaching mathematics in elementary schools is students are able to understand mathematical concepts, explain the interrelationships of the concepts and apply algorithmic concepts in a flexible, accurate, efficient and precisely in solving their daily problems. The elementary schools nowadays show that there are still found many students who have difficulty in solving problems related to the subject matter, especially on arithmetic operations of integers. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Students in first grade are given a worksheet to solve individually by writing out the work steps clearly. Six students were chosen as research subjects to be analyzed. The sixth research subject consists of 2 subjects who have high mathematical abilities, 2 medium, and 2 low mathematical abilities. The difficulty of the subject was observed by examining the worksheet's answer and giving clinical interviews related to the results of his work. Based on the results of data analysis, the difficulty of learning mathematics of elementary school students in integer operations is: 1) students have difficulty understanding the purpose of the question so that it incorrectly translated into mathematical sentences; 2) students have difficulty operating numbers that contain negative signs; 3) 95% of students have difficulty understanding the meaning of equal sign (=); 4) students have difficulty carrying out the division operations.

The purpose of writing this article is to obtain an overview of the thinking process of ele- mentary school students in mathematical understanding related to the material of multi- plication and fraction distribution. The thought process consists of instrumental thinking processes and instrumental relational thinking processes. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Students in one class are given a task sheet to do individually by writing clear work steps. Six students were selected as research subjects to analyze. Consisting of 2 subjects who have high math skills, 2 medium and 2 low. The process of thinking of a subject is observed by looking at and reviewing the answers to the assignment sheet and giving clinical interviews related to the results of his work. Based on data analysis, it was obtained an illustration that the subject did not have a good instrumental relational think- ing process. Generally, many subjects do not understand the concept of fractions, so it is wrong to change fractions to other forms, operate fractions and conclude answers.

The aim of this study is to describe the mathematical reasoning ability of students at TSM major (Motorcycle Engineering) Darul Karomah Singosari on square root material. This study applies descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected using test instrument that has been tested on three research subjects, and analyzed using qualitative descriptive technique. The results show that low- ability (Kemampuan Rendah) subject is the student with less mathematical reasoning ability because the subject has not been able to solve the five existing indicators of mathematical reasoning, middle- ability (Kemampuan Sedang) subject include student with moderate mathematical reasoning ability (although the subject has not fulfilled the five indicators of mathematical reasoning requirements), this can be seen from his effort to make a mathematical assumption even though the conjecture made was not correct, and high- ability (Kemampuan Tinggi) subject refers to the student with high mathematical reasoning ability because he can fulfill two of the five indicators of mathematical reasoning.

The curriculum of elementary schools revolves around the pivot of the three R's. Arithmetic is considered to be the most important subject, and right from the first grade it absorbs the most of the teachers' and pupils' attention in Pakistan. But, at the same time, this is the subject which is perhaps least liked by children. For them it is a hard nut to crack. They are punished because they are poor at figures. A large number of children give up their education during the first five years of elementary education. A relatively small percentage of the boys and girls who complete their elementary-school education go on to complete high school.1 Along with other factors, a child's failure to grasp the knowledge imparted is the most important reason. In the last several decades in Pakistan, mathematics and English have been considered responsible for the poor pass percentage, which usually lies in the range of 50 to 60 per cent. Thousands of disgusted high-school students bid farewell to education forever for the lower attainment in arithmetic and foreign language. What a horrible waste!
