The jambolan as it is popularly known as Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels, is of Indian origin. Studies in various areas require estimation of leaf area over the growing cycle. Leaf area is an important aspect in the analysis of photosynthetic efficiency of plants. The objective of the present study was to evaluate S. cumini leaf area determination methods based on measurements by caliper, leaf area integrator and previous image calibration in ImageJ Software, comparing both methodologies. The present study was developed at Mato Grosso State University Carlos Alberto Reys Maldonado - UNEMAT, Alta Floresta campus - MT. Fifty leaves were analyzed, which were numbered from 1-50 in length (C) and width (L) with the aid of a digital caliper and leaf area integrator (Leaf area integrator LI-COR 3100), for measuring leaf area (AF), after the sheets were scanned on an HP Photosmart C4680 flatbed scanner and processed using ImageJ software. Given the data found, it was found that the method used via digital imaging was accurate and showed a high correlation with manual measurement, indicating that the morphological characteristics of leaf area, length and width of Jambolão leaves can be estimated through analysis and analysis. Digital image processing.

Students' widespread use of games has attracted scientists' attention, and it has been a matter of curiosity whether games can be used in education. The primary purpose of this descriptive study is to examine gamification user types of university students. In addition, the digital game playing characteristics and preferences of students were identified. The participants comprised one hundred and eighty-one (181) university students enrolled at a state university in Turkey. An online questionnaire prepared by researchers and the Gamification User Types Hexad Scale were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics (mean, percentage, frequency), Kruskal Wallis H, and chi-square analysis were utilized for data analysis. The results revealed that the highest ratio of students stemmed from achievers, philanthropists, and players. Furthermore,  participants mostly preferred to play online games, and most of the students played digital games daily. Keywords: Digital games, game preferences, game genre, gamification user types.

This article is a report of a study begun in 1959 and completed in early 1962 at the State University of Iowa as a doctoral dissertation. A descriptive study, it attempted to draw in rather broad outlines the image of the United States and its people as presented in an important segment of the Mexican press1 and in opinions expressed by journalists in interviews and on questionnaires. More specifically, the study was made to determine and describe the volume and kinds of news, opinion, and pictorial material about the United States published over a randomlyselected period (January, 1960) in ten leading daily newspapers of Mexico.Beyond this main descriptive phase, consisting of the analysis of the content of 300 separate newspaper issues, the study also had as a secondary objective the presentation of opinion about the United States given by journalists connected with the ten dailies and with a few other newspapers. This latter phase proved to be much the more interesting, and the more revealing, aspect of the study, and it is principally with this “opinion” aspect of the study that the present article deals.

A new species, Leptolalax mangshanensis sp. nov., is described from the Mangshan National Nature Reserve, in Hunan Province, China. The new species is genetically similar to Leptolalax liui, and morphologically similar to Leptolalax maoershanensis. Morphological characteristics that distinguish the new species from its congeners are a small body size (snout-vent length, SVL, 22.2 mm–27.8 mm in 27 adult males, and 30.2 mm in one adult female); nearly smooth dorsal skin with some small, orange, tubercles and irregular, dark brown stripes, throat and belly scattered with white speckles, weak lateral fringes on toes and rudimentary toe webbing; indistinct longitudinal ridges under toes, and not interrupted at the articulations, iris bicolored with bright orange in the upper half and greyish cream in the lower half. The new species is widely distributed in montane evergreen secondary forests and small bamboo forests in Mangshan Nature Reserve, at altitudes between 500–1600 m a.s.l.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the perceptions of professors and students on academic tutoring. Method: descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out at the Magalhães Barata School of Nursing, State University of Pará, Brazil. Twenty-seven professors and 32 students participated in the study. Data were collected through semi-structured and individual interviews, using different scripts for professors and students. For analysis, the technique of content analysis was used. Results: we defined three thematic categories: academic tutoring as a tool for strengthening teaching-learning; academic tutoring as a possibility of intellectual and social transformation; and reflections of academic tutoring in nurses’ training. Final considerations: the teaching-learning process is referred to as a process in which there must be dialogue, and in which professors, students, and tutors learn with each other, breaking the traditional paradigms of unilateral and vertical transfer of content. Academic tutoring stands out as promoter and strengthener of this process.

The Globodera tabacum complex infects tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) fields in the United States. In August 2001, plants of flue-cured tobacco cv. K326 from a field of the La Vera Region of Spain displayed a premature wilting and yellowing of foliage, but the roots looked healthy. In the laboratory under the microscope, nematode cysts were observed on the roots. At harvest in September 2001, soil and root samples were collected to identify the nematode and to quantify the population in the soil. Identification of the nematode was based on morphological characteristics of second-stage juveniles collected from cysts and perineal patterns of cysts recovered from the roots (2). Cysts were collected from roots, and second-stage juveniles were extracted from crushed cysts. The nematode population was extracted from the soil and quantified as described by Barker (1). The nematode population was identified as Globodera tabacum. Soil density of the nematode was 5,307 cysts per liter of soil, 64,286 eggs per liter of soil, and 16,071 second-stage juveniles per liter of soil. To our knowledge, this is the first report of G. tabacum complex in Spain. References: (1) K. R. Barker. Nematode extraction and bioassays. Page 19 in: An Advanced Treatise on Meloidogyne. AbstractEphyrae are produced through the strobilation of polyps in the general life cycle of Aurelia coerulea. However, it has been reported that planulae can also metamorphose directly into ephyrae, without passing through the polyp stage. There is a mixture of ephyrae developed from planulae (planula-strobilated ephyrae) and ephyrae developed from polyps (polyp-strobilated ephyrae) in the ephyra population. However, the effect of the planula-strobilated ephyrae on the ephyra population is yet to be determined, since their morphological characteristics have not yet been elucidated. This study aimed to determine the morphological characteristics to distinguish between planula-strobilated and polyp-strobilated ephyrae. The differences in body dimensions, such as total body diameter (TBD), central disc diameter (CDD), lappet stem length (LStL), rhopalial lappet length (RLL), and total marginal lappet length (TMLL) were compared between the two types of ephyra. Thus, we show that body proportions can be used to identify planula- and polyp-strobilated ephyrae. The ranges for identifying planula-strobilated ephyra were 35.0–38.3% for CDD/TBD, 56.7–64.9% for LStL/CDD, 84.7–99.5% for TMLL/CDD, and 31.0–37.5% for RLL/TMLL. This method could be an important basis for devising countermeasures for jellyfish blooms in areas where ephyrae deriving from planula strobilation occur.
