Karl August Engelbrekt Ahlqvist (literary pseudonym A. Oksanen) was a Finnish scholar, philologist and patriot who worked hard to create the Finnish standard language. The authors of the paper turn to some milestone facts from A. Ahlqvist’s academic biography. His meetings with some outstanding scholars, scientific expeditions to the kindred Finno-Ugric peoples, gathering of the unique field data as well as his educational activity were among those events. So-called “cultural words” became the main research topic of the paper. A. Ahlqvist classified “cultural words” according to human endeavors, locating genuine Finnish words among the loanwords. Having come to the conclusion that proper Finnish vocabulary comprised words which defined historically early, not specialized kinds of labour, A. Ahlqvist got firmly convinced that this fact witnessed the people’s historic youth period rather than its backwardness. Doing his research the scholar came to another important conclusion that the most part of the linguistic methodology was outdated then and needed updating. Thus A. Ahlqvist can be called a forerunner of the Neogrammarian turn. A. Ahlqvist became a pioneer in the Finno-Ugric language etymology study as well as in interdisciplinary approach in science, using the opportunities of “cultural words” analysis in the framework of the comparative historical method and as a means to reconstruct the Finnish ethnic history and culture.

Research objectives: To consider the creative path and main views of L.T. Yablonsky, as well as his influence on ideas about the ethnic history of the Golden Horde population and theoretical problems of ethnogenesis. Research materials: The authors of the article were based on numerous publications by L.T. Yablonsky, as well as personal impressions from meetings with the researcher on expeditions and at academic conferences. Results and novelty of the research: The authors consider the formation of L.T. Yablonsky as a unique specialist who combined archaeological training and professional study of physical anthropology. This allowed him to draw important conclusions about the formation of the Golden Horde population. Later, he resorted to this method to study the early nomads of the Aral Sea region and the South Urals. His works became an event in the research field, since they positively differed from others not only by an interdisciplinary approach to the problem under study – at the junction of archaeology and ethnogenetics – but also by the wide use of anthropological materials. Prior to these works, all information about the population of the Jochid ulus was fragmentary and unsystematic, and he was the very researcher who first connected the data of paleoanthropology and the analysis of the burial rite in medieval burial grounds. He proved the fact that the Golden Horde population consisted of mixed population groups, and identified those population groups that, in his opinion, came from Central Asia. L.T. Yablonsky attached great importance to the methodology of research on ethnogenesis and ethnic history. He advocated an integrated scientific approach to their study and emphasized the huge role of paleoanthropology and archaeology in solving ethnogenetic problems. In his opinion, the rapid divergence of various scientific disciplines – ethnology, archaeology, physical anthropology, and genetics – was the main problem that hindered the development of scientific ethnogenetic research. L.T. Yablonsky, therefore, believed that expanding comprehensive research would help solve this problem.

In 2009, Croatia adopted the new General Administrative Procedure Act (GAPA), which introduced several novelties in the regulation of general administrative procedure. The main research topic deals with the changes that the new GAPA, as an incentive for public administration reform in Croatia, has produced. The empirical data were collected within the EU funded IPA project “Support for the implementation of the General Administrative Procedure Act” (2012−2013) and interpreted on the basis of institutional theory. Despite changes to the legal text, the empirical data show that the new GAPA has not resulted in actual changes in everyday public administration.

Based on academic achievements of, primarily, Chinese and Vietnamese researchers including materials recorded in the form of writings, reports, diaries, and letters sent to Europe by Western missionaries operating in China and Vietnam in the 17th and 18th centuries, and at the same time combining the application of two main research methods of Science and History (historical method and logical method) with other research methods (systematization, analysis, synthesis, statistics, etc.) and especially the comparative method, this article aims to clarify two points of focus. The first is the open attitude of Chinese and Vietnamese rulers in accepting Western medical achievements and the positive, respectful, and admiring views of some missionaries towards different aspects of traditional Chinese and Vietnamese medicine. The second is the contradiction in some Western missionaries' perception and actions when they criticized the superstition in the way of disease diagnosis and treatment of the Vietnamese and Chinese, especially the Taoist priests, however they committed to such approaches in the process of examining and treating indigenous people. The study of some of the phenomena that arose during the connections made between Western medicine and traditional Chinese and Vietnamese medicine in the 17th and 18th centuries as mentioned above would make a certain contribution to the study of the history of the East-West cultural exchange in China and Vietnam in general, as well as the medical history in the two countries, in particular during this period.

Our project team designed and realized an Automatic Identification System (AIS) terminal equipment specifically which is based on an ARM7 chip and compatible with a self-developed FPGA chip. The main research topic is about the timeslot management and implementation in this equipment. I designed a timeslot list in the form of an array, to storage every timeslot state in each channel and current frame real-time, intuitively, and conveniently. When there is a timeslot-occupied or a timeslot-reserved in the equipment, the timeslot list can storage the timeslot state real-time. This timeslot state is defined as whether each timeslot is currently occupied, what action occupied it, how long the timeout is. And manage the timeslot every timeslot by timeout, to realize each timeslot management in A/B channels. When the equipment will select candidate timeslots to send message, it could read the timeslot state by the timeslot number directly to know whether it can send message in this timeslot. Make sure its timeslot reuse, prevent its timeslot collision, and realize the communication real-time and effective.

The background of the research is examine the topic on how the military’s education system in the early days of independence is relatively less researched compared to research on figures, strategies or battles during the independence revolution. The main issue raised in this undergraduate thesis is “how was the process of formation and the role of the Maguwo’s Aviation School in 1945-1950?”. In the process to answer that main issue, the author used the historical method to perform four steps namely heuristics, critics of sources, interpretation and historiography. To facilitate the analysis, the author used the interdisciplinary approach through studies in the field of education and sociology by using the vocational education’s concept and the role’s concept. Based on the results of the research it can be found that first, the formation’s background of the Maguwo’s Aviation School was the absence of aviation education’s institutions that could fulfill the needs of the aviators in order to defended the independence from the Dutch’s threat. Second, the absence of the aviation educational institutions, Adisutjipto took the initiative to setted up an aviation school in Maguwo and became the instructor at the school. Third, the curriculum undertaken at the Maguwo’s Aviation School is “Cakap Terbang” means that the training undertaken at this school is directed the cadets to have the skill in flying the plane quickly. Fourth, although the facilities and infrastructure which supported the implementation of education was limited, but because of the unyielding’s spirit, the cadets were able to demonstrate the successful implementation of the education, one of them was the success of the cadets in executed operations against the Dutch’s position in Semarang, Salatiga and Ambarawa. But, the aviation history is a history of sacrifice because there were also cadets and school instructors who died while executed the air operations as experienced by Adisutjipto, Abdulrachman Saleh and Adi Sumarmo who died in the Dacota VT-CLA.

This article interests in history of armed forces of the antiquity states, their structure, deployment order, the organization of command, evolution of arms, policy strokes, action of armies in the military conflicts, and to their use in internal political fight, as well as to involvement of mercenaries. During the Classical Period of Greek history big fame was gained by armed forces of Athens and Sparta. Athens in the 5th century BC was at the peak of power and pursued active foreign policy which was in many respects supported by powerful army and fleet. The reason of traditionally high interest in history of Athens of the Classical Period including the armed forces history of the polis also lies in it. However Athens and their armed forces suffered a serious loss and got beaten in the Peloponnese war and the final decline of political and military power of Athens occurred after defeat in Lamian war therefore military activity of the polis sharply decreases. Therefore the history of Hellenistic period Athens gets much less attention. Proceeding from it, the purpose of article consists in a research of the role of mercenaries in armed forces of Athens in the period of Hellenism. The leading method of this research is the comparative-historical method allowing tracking mercenaries hire by Athens during the specified period on the basis of a complex sources use. The main research results consist in identification of an order and features of the hired contingents use, their places in armed forces of the polis. Materials of article can be useful to the further scientific research regarding the history of Athens and military ancient history as well as to creating educational and handbooks on this perspective.

The review considers the first attempt in the history of Russian economic thought to give a detailed analysis of informal institutions (IF). It recognizes that in general it was successful: the reader gets acquainted with the original classification of institutions (including informal ones) and their genesis. According to the reviewer the best achievement of the author is his interdisciplinary approach to the study of problems and, moreover, his bias on the achievements of social psychology because the model of human behavior in the economic mainstream is rather primitive. The book makes evident that namely this model limits the ability of economists to analyze IF. The reviewer also shares the author’s position that in the analysis of the IF genesis the economists should highlight the uncertainty and reject economic determinism. Further discussion of IF is hardly possible without referring to this book.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of literary romanticism. The research aims at a refinement of the “romanticism” concept in relation to the history of the literary process. The main research methods include conceptual analysis, textual analysis, comparative historical research. The author analyzes the semantic genesis of the term “romanticism”, various interpretations of the concept, compares the definitions of different periods and cultures. The main results of the study are as follows. The history of the term “romanticism” shows a change in a number of definitions for the same concept in relation to the same literary phenomena. By the end of the 20th century, realizing the existence of significant contradictions in the content of the term “romanticism”, researchers often come to abandon it. At the same time, the steady use of the term “romanticism” testifies to the subject-conceptual component that exists in it, which does not lose its relevance, but just needs a theoretical refinement. Conclusion: one have to revise an approach to romanticism as a theoretical concept, based on the change in the concept of an individual in Europe at the end of the 18th century. It is the newly discovered freedom of an individual predetermines the rethinking for the image of the author as a creator and determines the artistic features of literary romanticism.
