The article analyzes changes in the number, size and structure of the Udmurt family in Udmurtia based on the population censuses of 1959, 1970, 1979, and 1989, based on a significant array of statistical data introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. For the first time, the size of families headed by the Udmurts was calculated in 1959. It was 4,1 people. in the republic as a whole, 3,5 people. - in urban settlements, 4,2 people. - in the countryside. For the first time in historiography, a grouping of Udmurt families was made, depending on the number of members living together. The typology is considered and the quantitative composition of Udmurt families with children according to the 1970 census is presented. At the same time, a comparison is made with the average republican family. It showed, in particular, that the Udmurt family was larger throughout the period under consideration, although the difference gradually disappeared. Most of the Udmurts had intergenerational families consisting of three generations and single-parent families. Moreover, in the latter, the parent was aged. Also, for the first time, the state of marriage among the Udmurts was analyzed: if for 1959 and 1970 in the sources it was possible to find only the number of married, then for 1979 and 1989 - also the number of divorced, widows who have never been married. Their age distribution is also shown. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the Udmurt family suffered more during the Great Patriotic War than the average republican family.

The authors of the article developed for the first time a technological process for the production of direct-squeezed juice and concentrated juice from the fruits of garden and wild elderberry growing in the Republic of Belarus. Direct-squeezed juice was obtained by fermentation followed by filtration. Concentrated juice was obtained by processing direct-squeezed juice and extracting the marc. For maximum juice extraction after crushing during enzymatic treatment, a temperature of 50 °C was used for 240 min, the dose of the enzyme preparation was 400 cm/t. Direct-squeezed juice and concentrated juice were studied by organoleptic and physicochemical parameters: mass fraction of solids, active acidity (pH), mass fraction of pectin substances, content of anthocyanins, protein, mass fraction of organic acids. The product safety indicators were studied, the qualitative and quantitative composition of amino acids in concentrated elderberry juice was first determined. It has been established that by the combination of physicochemical parameters, direct squeezed juice from elderberry can be considered a preventive drink. The composition of concentrated elderberry juice includes 18 amino acids, in the amount of 4.84 g/100 ml. 7 essential amino acids were detected in the amount of 1.51 g/100 ml. The concentrated juice contained phenols in the quantity of 42.95 mEq gallic acid / gram dry matter and a large number of hydrolyzed tannins. Most polyphenolic compounds were preserved after the juice concentration.

Study of the history of the Great Patriotic War, as a rule, focuses on heroics − battles, glorious warriors. Much less research attention was paid to military everyday life and the working days of the rear. The relevance of this issue today is accounted for by numerous attempts to falsify the history of the war. Unfortunately, the topic of the rear under the occupation of certain regions began to be used in provocative projects aimed at inciting ethnic hatred. Partisanship and politicization of such research is confirmed by numerous copies of individual "works" to blacken the country's contribution to the victory of the peoples. It is necessary to resist such attempts from the standpoint of academic science. This article discusses the labor processes that took place in the rear of the hostilities in North Ossetia: the general mobilization of the working population to help the front, the activities of industrial enterprises in the republic. The questions raised, to one degree or another, were reflected in Soviet historiography, but many events and phenomena that have fallen on the periphery of research attention need analysis or rethinking. This article for the first time introduces into scientific circulation new sources − materials from the periodical press of the war years: the republican newspaper "Socialist Ossetia", as well as the factory newspapers "On the Rails" and "Electrozinc Worker ", which significantly complement the prevailing ideas about the life of the rear − a well-organized economic, socio-political and cultural space, with the help of which it was possible to stop the enemy from seizing the capital − the city of Ordzhonikidze, and further advance the German army in Transcaucasia.

The paper is devoted to ethno-cultural landscapes of the Republic of Tuva. Ethnocultural landscapes (ECLs) are specific socio-environmental systems that developed as a result of the interaction of ethnic groups with their natural and social environments and are in a constant process of transformation. An attempt is made to identify the mechanisms of the formation, functioning and dynamics of ethnocultural landscapes in the specific conditions of the intracontinental cross-border mountain region, as well as to establish the main factors-catalysts of their modern changes. For the first time an attempt is made to delimit and map the ethnocultural landscapes of Tuva. For this, literary sources, statistical data and thematic maps of different times are analyzed using geoinformation methods. The results of 2014-2018 field studies are also used, during which interviews with representatives of different ethno-territorial, gender, age and social groups were taken. It is revealed that the key factors of Tuva’s ethnocultural landscape genesis are the natural isolation of its territory; the features of its landscape structure; the role of government; population migrations from other regions and the cultural diffusion provoked by them. 13 ethnocultural landscapes are identified at the regional level. Their modern transformation is determined by the shift of climatic cycles, aridisation, globalisation of sociocultural processes, changes in economic specialisation and ethnopsychological stereotypes.

The history of local government in South Africa dates back to a time during the formation of the Union of South Africa in 1910. With regard to the status of local government, the Union of South Africa Act placed local government under the jurisdiction of the provinces. The status of local government was not changed by the formation of the Republic of South Africa in 1961 because local government was placed under the further jurisdiction of the provinces. Local government was enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa arguably for the first time in 1993. Under the interim Constitution local government was rendered autonomous and empowered to regulate its affairs. Local government was further enshrined in the final Constitution of 1996, which commenced on 4 February 1997. The Constitution refers to local government together with the national and provincial governments as spheres of government which are distinctive, interdependent and interrelated. This article discusses the autonomy of local government under the 1996 Constitution. This it does by analysing case law on the evolution of the status of local government. The discussion on the powers and functions of local government explains the scheme by which government powers are allocated, where the 1996 Constitution distributes powers to the different spheres of government. Finally, a conclusion is drawn on the legal status of local government within the new constitutional dispensation.

The paper provides a review on the joint Russian-Belarusian tutorial “History of the Great Patriotic War. Essays on the Shared History” published for the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The tutorial was prepared within the project “Belarus and Russia. Essays on the Shared History”, implemented since 2018 and aimed at publishing a series of tutorials, which authors are major Russian and Belarusian historians, archivists, teachers, and other specialists in human sciences. From the author’s point of view, the joint work of specialists from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in such a format not only contributes to the deepening of humanitarian integration within the Union state, but also to the formation of a common educational system on the scale of the Commonwealth of Independent States or the Eurasian integration project (Eurasian Economic Union – EEU). The author emphasises the high research and educational significance of the publication reviewed when noting that the teaching of history in general and the history of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War in particular in post-Soviet schools and institutes of higher education is complicated by many different issues and challenges (including external ones, which can be regarded as information aggression by various extra-regional actors).

The article is devoted to the analysis of interethnic relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in the 1940s and 1960s. The article is based on materials from the archives of BiH, Croatia, Slovenia, Yugoslavia. The documents show the state of affairs in the Republic – both in the economy and in ideology. In one or another way, all of them reflect the level of tension in the interethnic relations. For the first time, the article presents the discussion on interethnic relations, on the new phenomenon in multinational Yugoslavia – the emergence of a new people in BiH under the name of “Muslim”. The term “Muslims” is used to define the ethnic identity of Bosniaks in the territory of BiH starting from the 1961 census.

Lactoferrin was isolated and purified for the first time over 50-years ago. Since then, extensive studies on the structure and function of this protein have been performed and the research is still being continued. In this mini-review we focus on presenting recent scientific efforts towards the elucidation of the role and therapeutic potential of lactoferrin saturated with iron(III) or manganese(III) ions. The difference in biological activity of metal-saturated lactoferrin vs. the unmetalated one is emphasized. The strategies for oral delivery of lactoferrin, are also reviewed, with particular attention to the metalated protein.

This chapter traces the developments of various terms denoting “others” in biblical literature. In much of the biblical corpus, Israel is still one goy among many, and the difference between it and its Others is neither binary nor stable. After a brief analysis of the dynamics of familial and ethnwic separations in Genesis and Exodus, this chapter concentrates on the priestly and Deuteronomistic modes of separating peoples, examines the novelty and limitedness of the Deuteronomistic legislation, where the nokhri (stranger) is systematically contrasted for the first time with the Israelite (referred to as “your brother”), and follows the various modes of separations and their rationales.
