The choice of building design solutions in terms of their resistance to the influence of dynamic performance often requires a full analysis of the time. The study contains a comparison of the response of the building made in two alternative technologies: traditional concrete and mixed concrete with partial compression on the force caused by the movement of the subway in a tunnel located under the object. The building answer is understood in the sense of the influence on the building (the internal forces) as well as people staying in it (the RMS value in one-third octave 1/3 octave bands). As from numerical analysis for the analyzed types of structures, the best solution cannot be unambiguously determined. In the object the regions characterized by different dynamic "sensitivity" dependent on the choice of the type of technology used to build the elements of the structure.

AbstractThe influx of Chinese-made African ethnic dress has been central to debates about the consequences of the growing Chinese presence in Africa. Exploring the reception of the Chinese-produced capulana in Mozambique and net'ela in Ethiopia, we demonstrate that Mozambican and Ethiopian manufacturers and traders, from the grass roots up to cultural elites, engage with Chinese imports with creativity and verve. While welcoming Chinese materials for their affordability, bold and bright colours and suitability for dressmaking, they fashion them in ways that fit their own tastes and the local fashion trends. We distinguish three practices by which people do this: first, by incorporating Chinese materials or design elements into their own products; second, by co-creating new designs and dress with their Chinese counterparts; and third, by altering the imported fabrics. Apart from fashioning imports, some manufacturers use strategies to distinguish their own products from Chinese counterparts. These strategies include naming practices linked to the stories of their origin and alterations to the material.

Considering the quest to meet both sustainable development and energy security goals, we explore the ramifications of explosive growth in the global demand for lithium to meet the needs for batteries in plug-in electric vehicles and grid-scale energy storage. We find that heavy dependence on lithium will create energy security risks because China has a dominant position in the lithium supply chain and both Europe and North America seek to curtail reliance on China throughout their supply chains. We also find that efforts to expand lithium mining have been much less successful in Chile, the United States, and Europe than in Australia. Local communities resist licensing of new lithium mines due to a variety of environmental, social, and economic concerns. There are alternative technologies that may make lithium mining more sustainable such as direct lithium extraction, but the timing of commercialization of this process is uncertain. Progress is also being made in battery recycling and in alternative battery designs that do not use lithium. Such advances are unlikely to attenuate the global rate of growth in lithium demand prior to 2030. We conclude that tradeoffs between sustainability and energy security are real, especially in the next decade.

Southwest area of china is the zone of the transmission lines which often happens icing disaster. It is also an earthquake-prone area, also influenced by the interaction between ice and earthquake. This article uses the finite element method (fem), establishing three-dimensional model for steel towers in southwest china, to analyze the dynamic performance of the ice condition and the analysis of seismic action. The aim is to get internal forces for steel towers under the action of earthquake and deformation law along with the change of ice thickness.

Studies investigating the benefits of green buildings can be approached by the affordance theory—the perceived properties of a thing that determine how it could possibly be used. This study focuses on the sustainable communication and education that a green building should provide. By applying the affordance theory, we examined whether a LEED-certified university campus building effectively communicates green design and sustainability to its users and if so, then how? We employed a questionnaire survey targeting campus users of a LEED-certified building by examining their awareness of the building's LEED status and perception of green design elements at multiple spatial scales, as well as their general knowledge on green building topics. We collected 177 questionnaires, of which 153 were qualified for statistical analysis. The results suggested that the building itself can afford to promote awareness among users, but cannot afford to educate users on general green building knowledge. We found that building users perceived green design at different spatial scales, preferring either product or space-related design. Our results indicate that future design should continue promoting the use of educational signage, which was found to be the most effective communicator of sustainability. The communication of green design to users with different spatial preferences remains a future research focus. Further studies on the innovative use of green building design as effective communicators are needed to promote sustainability education among the building users.

This paper deals with the issue of the helicopter SW4 rear gear driving shaft forming. It was assumed that this shaft will be made from titanium alloy Ti6Al4V and it will be formed by means of cross-wedge rolling technology (CWR). It was also assumed that rolling will be realized in double configuration, which will guarantee axial symmetry of forming forces. The conception of tools guaranteeing the CWR process realization and numerical analysis results verifying the assumed CWR process parameters of the subject shaft were presented. Tests of shaft rolling in laboratory conditions at Lublin University of Technology were made, in the result of which the possibility of forming by means of CWR of a driving shaft, manufactured from titanium alloy Ti6Al4V, of the helicopter SW4 rear gear was verified.

The hydraulic structure visual forms are both a water project construction component, but also the important contents in the design of hydraulic structures. So that at the same time to satisfy the engineering function, given a certain culture connotation and time spirit, become the material function and mental functions complement each other forms. The article integrates design elements according to parts of Xinjiang reservoir project building design, , puts forward the according design thought and method.

Modern constructions, either private houses or public buildings, nowadays must be built meeting all the requirements of the European Union [EU] standards and must be highly energy efficient. Still, there are a lot of old inefficient buildings with high energy costs that require renovation. These buildings can be renovated applying a passive house model that helps to minimize buildings’ heating and cooling energy expenses. Moreover, the decisions made in the stages of early design and preconstruction are essential for the sustainability in a building facility. It is possible to perform various analyses with Building Information Modeling (BIM) in order to have an optimized sustainable building design. BIM system can be used to evaluate and control the costs (e.g. renovation, efficiency) as well as to monitor the conditions during the life-cycle of the building.

This work presents the design of two control schemes for a Delta/Par4-like parallel robot: augmented PD (APD) controller and augmented nonlinear PD (ANPD) controller. The stability of parallel robot based on nonlinear PD controller has been analyzed and proved based on Lyapunov method. A comparison study between APD and ANPD controllers has been made in terms of performance and accuracy improvement of trajectory tracking. Also, another comparison study has been presented between augmented nonlinear PD (ANPD) controller and nonaugmented nonlinear PD (NANPD) controller in order to show the enhancement of introducing the augmented structure on dynamic performance and trajectory tracking accuracy. The effectiveness of augmented PD controllers (APD and ANPD) and nonaugmented nonlinear PD (NANPD) controller for the considered parallel robot are verified via simulation within the MATLAB environment.

The green facades and living walls of vertical greenery systems (VGS) are gaining increasing importance as sustainable building design elements because they can improve the environmental impact of a building. The field could benefit from a comprehensive mapping out of VGS types, an improved classification and nomenclature system, and from linking the benefits to a specific construction type. Therefore, this research reviews existing VGS construction types and links associated benefits to them, clearly differentiating empirical from descriptive supporting data. The study adopted a scoping research review used for mapping a specific research field. A systematic literature review based on keywords identified 13 VGS construction types—four types of green facades, nine types of living walls, and ten benefits. Thermal performance, as a benefit of VGS, is the most broadly empirically explored benefit. Yet, further qualitative studies, including human perception of thermal comfort are needed. Improvements in air quality, reduction of noise, positive effects on hydrology, and visual benefits need much further empirical testing, as the current supporting data is mostly descriptive and based on the similarities with green roofs. The educational benefits of VGS has no supporting empirical evidence, while the social benefits have only been empirically evaluated through one identified study. Future progress of the field depends on the adoption of a clear VGS nomenclature system and further qualitative and quantitative empirical testing of VGS benefits, which should be clearly linked to a specific VGS construction type so that cross-comparison of studies is enabled.
