Baby Incubator is one of the electromedical equipment used to provide protection to premature babies or low birth weight. Baby care in the baby incubator causes separation of mother and baby. A new innovation in the care of premature babies who bring their babies and mothers closer is Kangaroo Method Management (PMK). Kangaroo method treatment aims to create emotional attachment to the baby, so that the mother will confidently take care. The research and manufacture of this module uses a method of treating baby incubator by adding a reading of the room temperature when the kangaroo mode runs at a setting of 34 ° C - 37 ° C with the effect of room temperature at 18 ° C, 24 ° C, and 30 ° C and setting the humidity control automatically by measuring at a temperature of 32 ° C, then measuring the results immediately. Sensors used to detect temperature are LM35 sensors and sensors used to detect humidity using DHT22. Based on the measurement results obtained uncertainty values ​​on the measurement of humidity 2.1, the measurement of temperature stability can be seen from the results of the graph which shows that the room temperature is not too influential at the temperature of the baby incubator. This study has shown the development of baby incubators to help mothers who have babies born prematurely so that they can have a good bond with how to treat skin to skin. This study has proven that its accuracy is appropriate to be used to stabilize the condition of babies born prematurely and help to treat PMK in some hospitals. In the future, this research can be made and used in small clinics in villages at low costs.

Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) is one of the critical components of kangaroo mother care (KMC), which is an intervention to enhance the survival of low birth weight (LBW) and/or premature infants in low-income settings. Chest-to-chest (CC) contact has been practiced widely; however, mothers face practical challenges to continuously provide CC-SSC. Hence, we assessed the efficacy of chest-to-back (CB) SSC as an alternative to CC-SSC in regulating body temperature for LBW and/or premature babies in Ethiopia. We applied a noninferiority clinical trial among LBW and/or premature infants admitted to a referral hospital neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Ethiopia. The study randomized the infants into two crossover arms; arm 1 applied first CB-SSC followed by CC-SSC, and arm 2 applied first CC-SSC followed by CB-SSC. The outcome measure was a change in skin temperature. We used a linear mixed-effect model for analysis. The result showed no statistically significant difference in the mean temperature between the comparison arms. In conclusion, we found that the CB-SSC was not inferior to the CC-SSC in regulating body temperature of the babies. Thus, CB-SSC can be further investigated as an alternative to CC-SSC in the kangaroo care model in low-income settings.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a vaso-proliferative retinopathy which occurs mostly in premature babies. The pathological change in ROP is peripheral retinal neovascularisation which may regress completely or leave sequelae from mild myopia to bilateral total blindness. International classification of ROP helped in uniform documentation and staging of ROP. In India, the incidence of ROP is between 38 and 51.9 p.c among low-birth-weight infants. Aim & Objectives: To estimate the incidence of ROP among premature and / or low birth weight babies who were born and admitted to neonatal intensive care unit and attending neonatal follow-up clinic.Subjects and Methods:A hospital based, prospective analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Pediatrics at Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, Teaching hospital and research center, Hyderabad, Telangana for a period of 6 months from 1st October 2018 to 31st March 2019. Prior to the study initiation, ethical clearance was obtained and written consent was taken from the parents of the respective babies. The study subjects included premature babies (less than or equal to 35 weeks of gestation) or low birth weight babies (less than or equal to 1500 grams). A predesigned, pre-tested, semi-structured proforma was used to collected the data. The data was collected, entered in Microsoft excel-2013 and analyzed using SPSS version-22 (trial). Data was presented in percentages, proportions and figures.Result:The ROP incidence in the study group was reported among 17.1 p.c of the study subjects.Conclusion:Low birth weight and prematurity are important risk factors for ROP.

The results of introducing the ‘kangaroo method’ (constant nursing of the baby skin to skin on the mother's chest), as the exclusive means of treating low birth weight (LBW) babies is reported, in the context of a mission hospital in a developing country without incubators and standard equipment for care of LBW neonates. Details of the method developed are described. The survival of babies born under 1500g improved from 10% to 50%, whereas that of babies 1500–1999 g improved from 70% to 90%. The method is well accepted by the community, and easily grasped by all hospital staff. Staff expectations concerning survival have dramatically improved, and a considerable saving in workload is experienced. The kangaroo method as described is strongly recommended to all units in developing countries treating LBW babies without modern equipment.

Skin-to-skin holding has been reported as a valuable intervention for preterm infants for over a decade. However, many neonatal intensive care units are not practicing this therapy and cite lack of protocols and techniques as a barrier. This article describes in detail the nursing considerations and techniques involved to successfully implement skin-to-skin holding for very low birth weight, technology-dependent infants. NICU protocols can be derived from this article.

Tendo em vista a importância do terapeuta ocupacional como profissional componente na unidade neonatal, buscou-se relatar de que forma o mesmo atua junto aos recém-nascidos prematuros e de baixo peso em um hospital universitário do Recife. O terapeuta ocupacional atua nos três contextos que constituem a unidade neonatal, sendo responsável pelos cuidados ligados ao desenvolvimento do bebê, a humanização do ambiente e orientações aos pais e profissionais. Assim, através dessa experiência percebeu-se de que forma este profissional atua, no que tange sua participação na equipe multidisciplinar, bem como sua importância na assistência humanizada a esses bebês e suas famílias. Abstract: Bearing in mind the importance of the occupational therapist in the neonatal unit, this paper seeks to report how that professional performs with low-birth- weight premature babies in a University Hospital in Recife. The occupational therapist is responsible for health care related to the baby's development, for the humanization of the hospital environment and for orienting parents and other professionals. It was possible to realize, through this experience, how the occupational therapist performs when it comes to taking part in a multidisciplinary team, as well as this professional's importance is assisting babies and their families in a humanized way.Key words: Occupational Therapy; Infant, Premature; Kangaroo-Mother Care MethodResumen: Devido la importancia del terapeuta ocupacional como profesional componente en la unidad neonatal, se buscó relatar de qué forma actúa junto a los recién nacidos prematuros y de bajo peso en un hospital universitario del Recife. Infants born with low birth weight or LBW are very susceptible to hypothermia due to the thin fat reserves under the skin and immature heat regulating centers in the brain. The search for articles consisted of five databases, namely Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, Garuda, and Proquest. Analysis of 25 articles on kangaroo mother care and self-care showed that kangaroo mother care can keep the baby's body temperature stable and reduce the risk of hypothermia in newborns with low weight and make it easier for the baby to breastfeed. This systematic review shows that the kangaroo mother care method has a more significant impact on baby weight gain and the stability of the baby's body temperature by maintaining skin to skin contact between mother and baby for later implementation in the community. The number of premature babies, including those with extremely low birth weight (ELBW), is steadily growing every year. In surviving ELBW infants, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) more often develops, which has a more severe course, depending not only on the degree of immaturity and somatic burden of premature babies but also on the quality of nursing. The aim of this work is to determine the risk factors for ROP progression in profoundly premature ELBW infants to optimize the tactics of their treatment. Materials and methods. We studied the case histories of 155 surviving premature ELBW infants with ROP of various stages treated in perinatal centres of the Belgorod region in 2014-2019. Results. In premature ELBW infants, ROP of varying severity was found to be diagnosed in 90% of cases. The anamnesis of the mothers of the examined patients with moderate and severe ROP was dominated by unfavorable preceding pregnancies (miscarriages, silent miscarriage and ectopic pregnancies, medical abortions).The need for preterm infants in mechanical ventilation was established to depend on the severity of ROP and the duration of mechanical ventilation (p < 0.05). Frequent, not always justified red blood transfusions leading to the replacement of fetal haemoglobin with adult haemoglobin are also essential factors in ROP progression.

Background: Premature babies are susceptible to a variety of health problems in early of their lives, thus, management of premature care should be designed to optimize the growth and development, with no more cost extension. The management of premature care by non-pharmacological treatments becomes popular nowadays, and applied in the hospital unit care, including the Tactile-Kinesthetic Stimulation (TKS) and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC).Aims: This study is to present the effect of Tactile-Kinesthetic Stimulation (TKS) on weight gain and reduction length of stay care for premature babies, and to compare the results with the standard Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) given at the hospital care unit.Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest with a control group. A total of 32 premature babies was equally divided to a control group given a standard KMC procedure and an intervention group receiving the TKS. Sampling was done using a consecutive sampling method where the low birth weight infants were selected from two public hospitals in Semarang of Indonesia, with consent from the parents. Data was then analyzed by a repeated measure ANOVA, general linear model and Mann-Whitney test to find the significant mean difference at p value less than 0.05.Results: The data shows that the babies’ weight significantly increased day by day only if the premature neonates received Tactile-Kinesthetic Stimulation, gained 148.75 gram only 3 days after the initial measurement. However, from this study we noted that the premature babies’ weight at the control group provided only with Kangaroo Mother Care slightly decreased at 35.69 gram at the third day of observation. In average, premature babies receiving TKS need only 3 days before return home, while if receiving the standard KMC the preterm babies required 5 days in the hospital care.Conclusion: Not only effective to gain the weight, giving Tactile-Kinesthetic Stimulation to the low birth weight baby shorter the length of stay in the hospital unit care. It suggests that the TKS intervention will provide good result in maintaining the weight of the low birth weight baby and will reduce the costs of staying in the hospital unit care. Keywords: Tactile-Kinesthetic Stimulation, Kangaroo Mother Care, Low birth weight, Length of stay care, Premature baby.

ABSTRAK Pendahuluan: perawatan Metode Kanguru (Kangaroo Mother Care) adalah perawatan untuk bayi berat lahir rendah atau bayi yang lahir prematur dengan melakukan kontak kulit antara bayi dan kulit ibu atau skin to skin contact, dimana ibu menggunakan suhu tubuhnya untuk menghangatkan bayi. Tujuan: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pengalaman ibu mengenai pelaksanaan perawatan metode kanguru di rumah pada BBLR di Wilayah kerja Puskesmas Parongpong Kecamatan Bandung Barat. Metode: penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif fenomenalogi. Penelitian ini melibatkan 3 orang Key Informant dengan teknik proposive sampling, memenuhi kriteria memiliki BBLR dan berpengalaman menggunakan PMK selama di rumah. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara yang dilengkapi dengan pedoman wawancara. Wawancara direkam kemudian di buat transkrip verbatim dan dianalisis dengan metode Colaizzi. Hasil: dalam penelitian ini adalah tiga tema dan dua belas kategori yang muncul. Diskusi: hasil penelitian memberikan saran bagi ibu, institusi kesehatan keluarga agar mendukung ibu yang memiliki BBLR dalam melaksanakan PMK dan menjadi pedoman penelitian lanjutan bagi bidang penelitian. ABSTRACT Introduction: : Kangaroo Care (Kangaroo Mother Care) is a treatment for low birth weight baby or infants born prematurely with contact the skin between baby and mother's skin or skin to skin contact, which is body temperature can be spark the baby. Objective: this study aims to identify the mother's experience over the treatment method of kangaroo in the house for low birth weight in the work area of the Puskesmas Parongpong West Bandung. Method: this research is a qualitative phenomenology which involved three Key Informants using proposive sampling technique with criteria experienced using kangaroo care at home for baby with low birth weight. The data collected through indepth interview, which is equipped with the guidelines interview. The interview recorded and transcript to using verbatim and analyzed by the method of Collaizzi. Results: there are three themes and twelve categories merges in this study. Discussion: this study provided advice for mothers, the family's health to support mothers with LBW in implementing the PMK and to guide further research for the wide research field of research.
