This study identified the role and status of research in HEIs in Ethiopia since 2016-2018. Employing a quantitative content analysis of the quality audit reports produced based on one of the 10 quality focus areas delineated for research and outreach activities using a series of interviews, analyzed documents and visited teaching- learning resources, infrastructures and observed activities. Sampling that is availability sampling employed from all 20 (9 government and 11 non- government institutions) audited HEIs from 2016-2018. Results indicate that there are factors that are affecting research activities and output in the audited HEIs such as too much load of work given to teachers lack or shortage of budget in both government and non-government HEIs, lack of clarity in the legislation, inadequate awareness on the part of some of the academic staff that their promotion is dependent on doing researches and publishing and the likes. Furthermore, the study revealed that no clear information as to how researches are approved, and how budget is allocated in the government HEIs , inadequate research writing knowledge and skill in some young researchers and inability to launch research journals both in government and non government HEIs. Recommendations for decision and policy makers, controllers, and pioneers of advanced education establishments incorporate guaranteeing proper funds and human resource development should be in place, efficient managers and management systems, and clear research policy should be set in proper manner

The second wave of the World Wide Web, referred to as Web 2.0, has affected every sector of the society including the public sector as well as the government, now often referred to as Government 2.0. Specifically, Government 2.0 can have a great impact on improving learning and research activities in public universities. Governments have recognized the role that Internet plays in education; they have made the use of ICT a substantial component in any government agenda. In addition, many governments have recognized the importance of incorporating Web 2.0 technologies in higher education. Being characterized by fostering an interactive and user generated content, Web 2.0 can usefully assist both students and faculty. Web 2.0 could contribute in overcoming budget constraints that constitutes a common problem among public universities especially in developing countries. This research argues that adopting Web 2.0 in public universities should start first by assisting faculty in their research and communication tasks through an easy and convenient way. This could reduce their resistance to change (which is considered one of the main barriers in adopting technologies) by being used to it and perceiving its value. Therefore, this chapter aims to investigate the use of Web 2.0 among academic staff in public universities. Such objective was reached through distributing a survey targeting a sample that represents faculty in some of the leading Egyptian public universities. Findings revealed a high use of Web 2.0 by faculty members in collaboration and information sharing. In addition, the main barriers of use are due to a lack of awareness or perception of the value of such technologies. Moreover, it has been proved that the level of Web 2.0 adoption varies among academic disciplines, but does not depend on age or academic position.

Globally, the world is faced with the COVID-19pandemic which has held the economy at ransom not exempting the educational sector. This pandemic has brought about recent changes and disruptions in the educational sector which serves as a catalyst for the development of any nation. Educational sector globally is seen to be shifting towards e-learning in order to cushion the effect of this pandemic. However, developing countries evidence from the Nigerian experience are posed with the challenge of shifting from the traditional teaching method to the e-learning during the pandemic. The challenges arise as a result of the varying degree of preparedness of the institutions,lack of infrastructures, and paucity of funds and policy issues in the Nigerian education sector. In a style of a qualitative research, these paper seeks to look at an overview of covid-19, global response to covid-19, impact of covid-19 on education and proffer recommendations to cushion these effect.Part of the recommendations include,government should immediately embark on the integration of all schools and institutions into online education, direct all the higher institutions to extend physical teaching and research activities to the online network, conduct teaching seminars online, jointly solve new problems that may arise in the teaching process. The government should endeavour to purchase laptops for each students both in the Basic, Secondary and Tertiary institutions, however, they should provide internet facilities in schools and constant electric supply to ease learning for students online.


Education plays a vital role in development of the society and the nation at large. It prepares and trained staff in any respect levels to manage capital, technology services and administration at each sector within the economy of the nation. India is presently at the stage of demographic transition wherever growth is retardation down however, the population of young people entering the labor/employment force continues to expand. This young and huge population ought to be educated for the betterment of the state. Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education with respect to gender is having increasing trend. The proportion of students enrolling in the higher education has increased significantly during the last two decades and as a result the higher education institutes, private universities, private and government colleges, in India are increasing significantly. Though the government of India has its own limitations towards funding the higher education should formulate the policy of funding to the universities/educational institutes so that the quality and standard in higher education is maintained. The aim of this paper is to study the trends in male, female enrolment and expenditure on higher education as % of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of country. The secondary data is taken from the annual reports of University Grants Commission, AISHE and Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. The data is analyzed by using MINITAB19 statistical software by fitting quadratic trend and the forecasts for the period 2018-19 to 2027-28 with respect to GER of Male, Female and public expenditure on higher education in India. The accuracy of the fitted model is measured on the basis of Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE). It was observed that student enrolment in higher education is increased but the expenditure on higher education as % of GDP has sown decreasing trend after 2000-2001.

This study analyzed motivational factors and the academic staff performance of the higher institutions of learning in Kogi State, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Purposive sampling was used to select two hundred and seventy eight (278) respondents. Descriptive statistics, multiple regression and correlation matrix were used to analyze the data gathered. Findings show that regular pay, work conditions, achievement and job security have significant predicting power over the teaching quality of the academic staff of the selected higher institutions of learning in Kogi State. The study concluded that regular payment of full salary can facilitate better performance on the part of the academic staff members. The study recommended that the government and the management of the higher institutions of learning in Kogi State should pay more attention to regular pay, work conditions and achievement of their academic staff; and pay less attention on their job security.

Educational strategies are designed to cope with and fulfill the multifarious pedagogical and educational needs of teachers and learners. Moreover, no educational plan can possibly yield the required results without incorporating suitable instructive strategies. This research paper advocates the role and importance of schemas in learning new forms of knowledge and data in the perspective of class room teaching-learning. Cognitive approach is adopted to understand how students learn new forms of knowledge and experiences through different mental processes, quite unlike that of behaviorism. The concept of schema helps us understand how learners can link new pieces of information to the already existing knowledge in their minds. The notion of ‘Constructivist Approach’ has been extracted from the field of educational psychology for triangulation. Extracts are taken from the textbooks of English used in matriculation and intermediate through purposive sampling. Their analysis shows that schemas can play a vital role in enhancing the learning experience and making new forms of knowledge a permanent part of the memory of students which is the ultimate goal of education.

The primary function of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah (Faculty) of Laws, at the very beginning of its inception, was that of teaching civil law and Sharî’ah subjects. As it matured, its vision has been varied from teaching to that of research with the aim of attaining the status of a full research institution that provides both quality research and best legal education in the region. Similar to other institutions of higher education in Malaysia, the responsibility of research is a shared function of both graduate students and the academic staff. The research output, on the part of the students is mostly composed of either Master Dissertations or PhD Theses. The academic members of the Faculty, however, are involved either in direct research, individually or jointly, supervision, and publications of their findings. By investigating and analyzing factors influencing research activities at AIKOL in the past twenty years, the researchers will be able to identify the general trends and development of research as it unfolded over years. The researchers hope that the policymakers, at both Faculty and University levels, will use the findings to improve research quality by boldly addressing the problems hampering research progress at AIKOL.

Achievement test is of very important assessment tool to evaluate the student’s current level of knowledge and skill acquired from classroom instruction. This test is designed to evaluate the student’s level of achievement in a particular subject for a particular class prescribed under the board or the university. In other words, to assess how much the pupils have achieved the educational objectives in teaching learning process at the end of the course and if achieved then to what extent, it has been achieved. Achievement tests are proved to be very helpful in various ways to the people who are involved in the field of education such as the teachers, the administrators, the planners, to the parents as well as for the students. The teacher very carefully develops and conduct achievement test in the class which enable the teacher to get an overall idea of the progress or the level of achievement of his students in the subject area. The teacher can determine the pupil’s strength and weakness in the subject area. So, based on this the teacher can take necessary remedial instructional strategies for the betterment of the pupil’s progress. In the same time, it also provides feedback for the teaching efficiency of the teacher.As with the time changes there have been many educational reforms taken place and in between syllabus had also been changed under different Boards of Studies. In order to maintain uniform standard of education the Government has formulated a policy to implement NCERT syllabus common to all School Boards throughout the country and accordingly the State Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) follow NCERT syllabus and to evaluate students’ achievement in terms of the policy formulated by the Board. Till now, no any standardized achievement test has been conducted for the secondary school students of Assam. Therefore, the investigators felt to construct and standardize an achievement test in the subject General Science which will definitely help in educational research.

The choice of materials is crucial in responding to the increasing embodied carbon (EC) impacts of buildings. Building professionals involved in material selection for construction projects have a vital role to play in this regard. This paper aimed to explore the extent to which building professionals in Sri Lanka considered EC as a material selection criterion. A questionnaire survey was conducted among a sample of building professionals in Sri Lanka. The results indicated that the consideration of EC as a material selection criterion remained low among key professionals, such as architects, engineers, and sustainability managers, despite their reasonable influencing powers and knowledge of EC. Those respondents who had considered EC as a selection criterion said they had been primarily driven by green building rating systems and previous experience. Those respondents who had not considered EC during material selection commonly reported that they had been prevented from doing so by the lack of regulations and the lack of alternative low carbon materials. Respondents believed that the involvement of actors, such as the government, professional bodies, environmental organizations, activist groups, and the public, may be significant in promoting the greater consideration of EC during material selection.
