In a context of a virus that is transmissive by sputtering, wearing masks appear necessary to protect the wearer and to limit the propagation of the disease. Currently, we are facing the 2019-20 coronavirus pandemic. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease with first symptoms similar to the flu. COVID-19 appeared first in China and very quickly spreads to the rest of the world. The COVID-19 contagiousness is known to be high by comparison with the flu. In this paper, we propose a design of a mobile application for permitting to everyone having a smartphone and being able to take a picture to verify that his/her protection mask is correctly positioned on his/her face. Such application can be particularly useful for people using face protection mask for the first time and notably for children and old people. The designed method exploits Haar-like feature descriptors to detect key features of the face and a decision-making algorithm is applied. Experimental results show the potential of this method in the validation of the correct mask wearing. To the best of our knowledge, our work is the only one that currently proposes a mobile application design ``CheckYourMask'' for validating the correct wearing of protection mask.

Experimental programs focused on the issues related to the flat slabs still attract the attention of the scientists around the world. At the Central Laboratories of STU in Bratislava, together 8 fragments of the flat slabs were tested, focusing on the influence of the openings on the punching resistance. The two reference specimens were without openings and the others had two symmetrically placed openings. The openings were moved from the face of the column in multiples of the effective depth (0d, 1d, 2d). For the assessment of the tests, the models introduced in the relevant standards and codes were applied. The experimental results were also used for NFEM model calibration. The paper will deal with comparison of the theoretical and experimental results as well as with non-linear analysis that was performed in the ATENA FEM program, with the goal to obtain the most realistic behaviour of the flat slabs with openings. The material properties used in the analysis were obtained from the laboratory tests.

The importance of preserving the environment from waste and its pollution lies in many matters such as preserving people health, enhancing the aesthetic character of cites, attracting tourists, and protecting society from environmental disasters. The environmental wastes are the main dilemmas in our daily life and in the world at large. With the existence of modern technology, development and the field of the internet, many solutions have been undertaken to get rid these dilemmas. In this paper, a smart waste system based on internet of things (IoT) technique has been proposed using ESP-32 Wi-Fi microcontroller. This system can be adopted to avoid the accumulation of waste in the streets that distort the face of civilization, also to reduce the burden of workers and limit the workforce. The system is based on a multiple sensors in the garbage baskets, as they measure the waste level by using ultrasonic sensor, the moisture percent and temperature degree using DHT-22 sensor. The sensors data are processed by ESP32 microcontroller and displayed to both LCD screen using I2C protocol and mobile application using IoT cloud. System baskets automatically open their covers when the person approaches with a distance less or equal to 30 cm to throw garbage. Any approval waste basket is automatically discharged through an underground dump system using conveyor belt if the basket is full by 80% garbage and/or the basket moisture reaches to 40%.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shaken the world. It has presented us with a series of new challenges, but the policy response may be difficult due to the severe uncertainty of our circumstances. While pressure to take timely action may push towards less inclusive decision procedures, in this paper I argue that precisely our current uncertainty provides reasons to include stakeholders in collective decision-making. Decision-making during the pandemic faces uncertainty that goes beyond the standard, probabilistic one of Bayesian decision theory. Agents may be uncertain not just about factual properties of the world, but also about how to model their decision problems and about the values of the possible consequences of their options. As different stakeholders may have irreconcilable disagreement about how to resolve these uncertainties, decision-making procedures should take everybody’s perspectives into account. Moreover, those communities that are hit harder by the pandemic are also those that are typically excluded from knowledge production. Thus, in the face of Covid-19 uncertainty, both democratic and epistemic considerations highlight the importance of stakeholders’ inclusion in policy decision-making.

With more than 19 million confirmed cases and over 700 thousand case-fatalities around the world, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic had changed the dynamics of human lives globally. Different Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques are widely used across scientific disciplines, including public health since the mid-1960s. Previous studies found that GIS was actively used in infectious disease mapping. Recently, GIS has been playing a critical role in understanding the spatial clustering and transmission trend of the ongoing COVID-19.3 However, it can be argued that the applications of GIS technologies could have provided more insights for research and practice in the context of COVID-19.

Cicely Saunders founded St Christopher’s Hospice in London in 1967 as a centre for teaching, research, and care. Its influence quickly spread around the world. Cicely Saunders — A Life and Legacy shows how she played a crucial role in shaping a new discourse of care at the end of life. From the nihilism of ‘there is nothing more we can do’, medicine and healthcare gradually adopted a more purposeful approach to care in the face of advanced disease and at the end of life. This came to be known as palliative care. This biography links for the first time the ideas and practice of Cicely Saunders to the spreading global interest in hospice and palliative care. It explores her deep reflection on the nature of suffering at the end of life, the possibilities of a more informed approach to the medical management of pain and other symptoms, and above all the importance of remaining focussed on the personal and spiritual concerns of the individual patient as death approaches. It is a story of a remarkable personal and professional life and of a seismic shift in twentieth-century medical history.

Taking up the case of climate change, the conclusion considers the argument for moretechnocracy in the face of ‘the end world as we know it’. Climate change is probably the strongest case for a technocratic model of political decision-making. At the very least, insufficient political adherence to the scientific evidence on climate change is an almost commonsensical part of the problem of in the current state of affairs. While fully acknowledging this problem, the chapter argues that attention to the destructive and mutually reinforcing interplay of technocracy and populism is necessary also in to the all-important challenge of climate change.

In 2013, the Islamic Republic of Iran, for the first time since its government replaced the Shah's government after the Iranian Revolution in 1979, came to the forefront of the international community to negotiate a deal- a deal that would limit its nuclear weapon stockpiles which it has kept hidden from the world even in the face of political isolation.

Abstract Hemifacial microsomia is a rare congenital, heterogeneous malformation disorder affecting predominantly unilateral face and involving head malformations mainly in the region of the first and second branchial arch and varying associated malformations. The disorder is associated with unusual strange distortion of the face with facial asymmetry and may cause psychological problems in the affected child and even the parents. Hemifacial microsomia is best managed by a multidisciplinary team including the otolaryngologist, audiologist, plastic surgeon and temporal bone radiologist. However, physicians working in many geographic areas of the world lacking active effective multidisciplinary teams and major craniofacial centers, will face a serious challenge and a tough time in making the appropriate referrals which ensure satisfactory management. The complexity of the defects in this condition, the potentially non-static nature of the condition and the lack of extensive management experiences with such rare condition make management challenging even when the appropriate timely referrals can be ensured. The aim of this paper is to report the occurrence of non-syndromal hemifacial microsomia in two unrelated Iraqi children for the first time.
