Leadership Qualities and Business Skills Needed By Business Education Students in Public Universities in South-East Nigeria for National Security.

The study focused on leadership qualities and business skills needed by business education students in public universities in South-East Nigeria for national security. Survey research design was adopted. Two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance guided the study. The population for the study was 53 business educators (21 males and 32 females) in public universities in South East states of Nigeria. The number was manageable hence, there was no sampling. Structured questionnaire containing a total of 22 items was the instrument for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient method. A correlation of .81 was obtained. Out of 53 copies of the questionnaire distributed, 52 copies were returned giving 98.11% return rate. It was found out that: ability to communicate( ̅ ), display honesty( ̅ ), solve problems( ̅ ) are among the leadership qualities and the ability to prepare budget( ̅ ), set procedures for achieving plans( ̅ ), make innovations( ̅ ) and use promotional tools( ̅ ) are among the business skills needed for by business education students for national security. Also, possession of leadership qualities and business skills are not gender biased. Recommendations made include: the identified leadership skills should be integrated in the curriculum by stakeholders for training business education students and business educators should ensure that the students are trained on the business skills identified to enable the students armed with salable skills and contribute to national security.

This study was carried out to determine the measures for promoting democracy in a depressed economy through business education for national security in Enugu State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were used for the study. The study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study was 41 business educators from four government owned tertiary institutions in Enugu State. There was no sampling since the population was manageable. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers and validated by the experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha, which yielded an overall index 0.72. Mean and standard deviation were used in answering research questions while hypotheses were tested using t-test. It was found that governmental measures items promoted democracy through business education for national security. The study also revealed that lecturers‟ measures also promotes democracy through business education for national security. It was recommended that: government should make adequate budgetary provision for business education. Democrats should be involved in business teacher‟s conferences and seminars.

This study was carried out to determine strategies for achieving national security through Technology and Vocational Education programmes in public universities in Enugu State – Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), and University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). Survey research design was adopted in the study. The population of the study was 97 lecturers, made up of 53 male and 44 female lecturers in the two public universities in the state (data collected through their respective departments in 2018/2019 academic session). The entire population was used because its relatively manageable number. A 22-items structured questionnaire developed from the literature reviewed for the study was used to collect data from the respondents. Each item was structured in a four point rating scale of Strongly Agree (4), Agree (3) Disagree (2) and Strongly Disagree (1). The questionnaire items were face validated by three experts. To determine the internal consistency of the items, Cronbach Alpha was used and it yielded a coefficient of 0.87. 97 copies of the questionnaire were administered to the respondents by the researchers with the help of two research assistants, and a 100% return rate was recorded. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data to answer the research questions, while t-test was used to test for the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance and at an appropriate degree of freedom. The results of the study showed among others, that giving of educational grants by government and planning TVE programmes are funding and management strategies for achieving national security. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that government should fund adequately TVE programmes in universities to achieve national security.

The study was a survey research conducted to investigate the strategies for enhancing leadership competencies among technical education students of Nigeria Universities for national security. The study was conducted in Enugu State of Nigeria. The population for the study was made up of 113 final year students of technical education in Enugu State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses were tested at .05 significant levels guided the study. A 31- items questionnaire was constructed and validated and its reliability of 0.77 was used to generate data from the respondents. The research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, while t-test was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study showed that all the strategies identified are essential for enhancing leadership competencies among technical education students for national security. The study concluded among other things that leadership failure is the major factor responsible for inability of leaders to manager national insecurity. It was recommended among others, that technical education planners should inculcate in the curriculum leadership skills that would help students to be effective future leaders for national security.

The prevailing occurrences of social, economic and environmental challenges have created enormous responsibility for the education sector towards achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs 2030) in developing nations. Therefore, this study was carried out to examine the extent students of business education have been empowered for decent work and productive employment for all through proper awareness and innovative instructional strategies. The study adopts a descriptive survey design and formulated relevant research questions and hypotheses. A sample of 159 final-year students of Business Education at federal and state colleges of education in Lagos, Nigeria, were selected from the population using random, purposive and stratified sampling techniques. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire. The internal consistency of the research instrument using Cronbach’s alpha correlation coefficient yielded an average index of 0.76. The statistical tools used for analysing the data for research questions and hypotheses are mean and t-test, respectively, at a 0.05 level of significance. The study found that innovative instructional strategies for decent work and productive employment for all were not practically employed. In addition, students lacked proper orientation about the SDGs 2030. The paper investigated the perceived influence of students’ demographic variables on their access to financial aids in public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. Six questions were formulated to guide the study and five hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design adopted for the study was an analytical survey. The population of the study included 78, 216 students (34,997 male and 43,219 female) in the three public Universities in Rivers State. The sample of the study covered 791 students (Male= 395 and Female= 396) selected through the random sampling technique while Taro Yamane method of sample size determination was used for determining the sample size. The instruments used for collecting responses from students were questionnaire and a ten items interview schedule. The research questions were answered using frequency, percentage and cumulative percentage. Findings of the study revealed that students’ demographic variables have an influence on their access to financial aids in public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. The implication of this is that the government’s expenditure on education will continue to increase in the absence of these alternative financial aids in the public Universities in Rivers State, Nigeria.

The study investigated counsellors‟ role in ensuring quality education for national security in Enugu Education Zone. One research question and one null hypothesis were formulated to guide the study was tested at.05 level of significance. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study consisted of 59 school counsellors in the 31 public secondary schools in the area. The number is small and manageable; so no sampling was done. The instrument used for data collection was a 6-item questionnaire. The instrument was validated by three experts from Faculty of Education, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu. One each from Guidance and Counselling, Psychology and measurement and evaluation. Mean, with standard deviation and t-test statistic were used for data analysis. The study revealed, among others that counsellors ought to encourage the development of students' talents and strengths. Secondly, it was also found out that there is no significance difference between the mean ratings of male counsellors and female‟ school counsellors in their role towards ensuring quality education for national security in Enugu Education Zone of Enugu State, Nigeria. The study recommended, among others, that seminars and workshops should be organized regularly for school counsellors with a view to updating their knowledge on how to effectively curb insecurity while encouraging students in their talents and abilities.

This study uses data collection techniques using interviews and observations.Results ofstudies have provided an understanding that the process of learning the prophetic leadership students do not stop at the time at PPRM course, but the processs will continue until the end of life. Norwegian sports today are characterized on the one hand by a need to innovate organizationally and rethink current practices, and on the other hand to respect national traditions and values of sporting culture. This dual responsibility poses a particular challenge to sports leaders of tomorrow. Whereas other studies have examined sports management education or sports leadership qualities as solutions to this challenge, this chapter examines the potential of a mentoring program to improve leadership skills. It draws upon qualitative interviews with participants, mentors and organizers of the 2019/2020 Mentor Program for Young Sport Leaders offered by the Norwegian Federation of Sports (NIF) and the Norwegian Association of Student Sports (NSI). Our findings reveal that this program enables young sports leaders to become more aware of their personal strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, the transfer value they represent to the organization is conditioned by prior experience, attendance motives and mentee-mentor relations. Consequently, this program reproduces known pros and cons found in earlier research on mentoring programs, yet offers something new in the sense that it allows young leaders to be part of the solution to issues in Norwegian sports by defining the relevant problems.
