The COVID-19 pandemic is firstly a health crisis, but also a huge shock for the educational world (from primary school to university). The impact of COVID-19 on the school world has been very strong. Education has been hit hard with schools closing down internationally and students forced to stay home. The global lockdown of schools has caused a severe and probably unparalleled disruption in student learning. In this scenario, teaching has moved online, the school world has suddenly been forced to move towards the dimension of distance learning, in Italian DAD. A new acronym, DAD, which is used to identify a type of training and teaching that is implemented, precisely, remotely or where there is no sharing of a space and a physical interaction between teacher and students, but everything is mediated by the use of technological means and the internet. The article aims to describe to a teacher audience, the most important steps in online/distance learning, DAD, adopted during pandemic in Italian school system, with its implications for teachers and students. After a brief overview of the main theoretical frameworks, we will try to describe the current state, in our country, of this methodology, its characteristics, its objectives and the roles of the actors involved. This article is an exploratory case study that involved the use of an observational research technique. It sought, through "living the situation in first person", to critically consider the advantages and disadvantages of this new didactic approach, of this different way of studying/teaching and the future prospects in restarting lessons in a Covid world.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the factor that makes online distance learning successful during the pandemic COVID-19. This paper focused on uncovering factors to make online distance learning possible during the pandemic. The research is phenomenological in nature and descriptive-survey method was used to identify the technology skills, attitude towards the characteristics of a successful online teacher/student, and level of readiness for the administrators, together with the experienced benefits that were experienced in online distance learning. Correlational analysis was employed to determine the relationship between the variables. Findings show that teachers and students have basic technology skills in online distance learning through the use of Facebook and Messenger; they can generate knowledge even without physical interaction and at their most convenient time. Gadgets or devices useful for online distance learning and unreliable internet access and/or technology struggle in joining digital learning to do school tasks are the prevailing challenges of the teachers and students. Attitude towards online distance learning is strongly correlated to the experienced benefits of online distance learning by the teachers and students. The readiness of the institution in adapting online learning is strongly correlated to the experienced benefits of the administrators. The study was Phenomenological in nature. It was conducted during the pandemic COVID-19. The study brought surface the lived experiences of the respondents in online distance learning during COVID-19. This paper will be useful for school administrators and teachers as basis for policy and program formulation for online distance learning implementation to be crafted to suit in the “new normal” environment.

This study examines the effectiveness of the implementation of online distance learning at MIM Bulakrejo Sukoharjo in 2020/2021, and the advantages and disadvantages of implementing online distance learning at MIM Bulakrejo Sukoharjo in 2020/2021. This survey uses a descriptive qualitative approach and uses a field survey. The primary data sources of this study were the principal and teachers. Observation techniques, interviews, and documented data collection to support the research data needed. The conclusions of the researchers are as follows: 1) The online learning system of MIM Bulakrejo is not very effective. Online system learning at the elementary school level is like an incentive for teachers and students to exercise. The application of the online learning system at MIM Bulakrejo is less effective because it actually only gives assignments to students and the teacher does not know whether the students understand it. The teacher's job is usually only done occasionally, in the form of giving assignments from so many pages to so many pages. 2) The supporting factor is that the school provides WiFi to students as a means of providing material and by providing free delegation. The obstacle is not only the lack of effectiveness and time efficiency by parents who are busy so they cannot provide assistance to their children during the online system learning process, but also the lack of enthusiasm of students to take part in online system learning.

In an effort to suppress the spread of the Covid-19 virus, Kemdikbud took a policy to close schools during the Covid-19 pandemic. All schools that initially did conventional learning by face-to-face, now learning is done from home through distance learning or online system, no exception pondok pesantren. The purpose of this research is to find out the distance learning process conducted by Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah 2 Cipining, Bogor. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative approach. Based on research can be known that in learning, pesantren use various platforms such as google classroom, google meet, whatsapp, and smart system. In this online learning, the materials and tasks given are quite diverse, although there are no tasks in the form of discussions so that the interaction between students and students and teachers cannot be done. All parties, both students, teachers, and parents experienced a culture shock with the existence of this distance learning system / online. Distance learning /online also gives rise to physical distancing. Religious activities that are usually carried out in pesantren are now carried out at home and all must be reported to the teacher or room guardian via whatsapp. The challenges faced in online learning include a lack of interaction between teachers and students, a network that arises to sink, quotas that are rapidly depleted and expensive, and a lack of active participation of students. Therefore, the readiness of both teachers and students, as well as motivation from parents can also support the implementation of this distance learning process. In addition, the provision of quotas is also important to support the online learning process carried out by pesantren.

The Hungarian government prescribed distance learning for higher education institutions due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic which was challenging at the Hungarian Dance Academy. The development of movement skills was difficult without personal presence, no common e-learning practice had existed in the institution before the pandemic. In the research we explored the distance learning and teaching practices developed at the theoretical and dance courses at the Hungarian Dance Academy, as well as the experiences of both teachers and students during the 3 and a half months. Instructors (n=65) and students (n=240) completed an online questionnaire on digital tool use and course management, furthermore 13 of the responding instructors also shared their experiences in a structured interview. Most of the instructors welcomed everything they could benefit from distance learning (e.g. creating new curricula, learning about new digital tools, improving relationships with students), but understandably, online distance learning of dance was considered impossible by many. Some students enjoyed distance learning because of their own schedule and the convenience of their home, but there were many critical remarks about its methods.

This paper reports on an online distance learning course that emphasizes the improvement of the self-efficacy beliefs of in-service elementary school teachers in teaching biological concepts. The course utilizes digital educational content and Open Educational Resources (OERs) and focuses on the interaction, peer support, and peer teaching into an online learning environment. In the design framework of the course, we investigated the educational needs of teachers and took into consideration the findings of other studies. A total of 251 teachers were enrolled in the online distance learning course and 142 completed it. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected in November 2020 through the bio-STEBI-A instrument and the posts in the forums of the course. The quantitative results revealed an improvement in both subscales of bio-STEBI-A, which were also confirmed by the qualitative ones, that underline the course, thus contributing to the improvement of self-efficacy beliefs of in-service elementary school teachers in teaching biological concepts. Recommendations are made for future research.

The Ukrainian distance education market is less than 15 years old, so it is clear that it is just being formed and has not yet encompassed educational institutions in large quantities: schools, institutions of professional and higher education, postgraduate institutions. But today, during the COVID‑19 pandemic, for the modern education system, the issue of transforming the forms and methods of teaching, in particular, its rapid and massive transition to distance learning, is relevant. In order to understand what consequences the system of higher and postgraduate education can expect, studies are being carried out in different countries to study the perception of distance learning, its effectiveness and the prospects for mass application. The article examines the perception of distance learning in the system of advanced training of public servants and teachers, as well as students of Ukrainian higher educational institutions. The results of the study showed that the vast majority of public officials, teachers and students quickly adapted to the new form of education and actively use domestic web platforms for distance courses and various online distance learning systems. At the same time, only a small part of the respondents believe that the level of knowledge they receive through distance learning is lower than in the «face-to-face» format, and a significant part of adults are always ready to study remotely, although the majority of respondents consider it effective and useful for myself a mixed form of study

Transactional distance (TD), the perception of psychological distance between the student and his peers, his instructor/teacher, and the learning content, has long been a prominent construct in research on distance education. Today, distance education primarily takes place over the internet, with technology mediating engagement and communication. Because transactional distance in online distance learning will always rely on technologically-mediated communication or interaction, we argue that in order to get the full picture, this aspect of technological mediation needs to be considered. For this purpose, we introduce a new scale for measuring transactional distance between students and the learning technology (TDSTECH), comprised of two interrelated dimensions. Reliability, convergent, and discriminant validity suggest a suitable scale. Preliminary inferential analyses are conducted with multiple linear regression and mediation analysis. Regression models show that TDSTECH is the single most important predictor of satisfaction in this population. This may have important implications for practitioners trying design and facilitate satisfying online distance learning experiences. Also, mediator analysis reveals that TDSTECH mediates the relationship between TD student-teacher and satisfaction, but not for TD student-content. Surprisingly, TD student-student shows no significant relationship with satisfaction. Implications for practice and further research are discussed.

The overall purpose of this paper is to explore the adverse effect of COVID-19 on the learning environment in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Considering that the impact of the coronavirus on education was abrupt, there was no contingency plan to mitigate the effect other than to shift to remote learning. The research addresses the question whether online/distance learning classes were effective. To deal with the research questions, the authors elicited teachers’ and students’ perceptions of regarding the challenges they faced amidst COVID-19 in learning via virtual mode- the only alternative e-learning strategy available at the time of social distancing. Hence it is important to mention that King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has been using e-learning/blended learning for more than a decade under the umbrella of the deanship of distance learning of KAU, however, in a different scenario. Data was collected from teachers and students through two questionnaires (adapted). The results reported that the majority of the participants had positive attitudes towards E-learning. It was also found that students were prepared to shift to online mode to avoid any academic loss.
