Recount text is one of the texts in writing which must be taught and stated in Junior High School curriculum. Some students felt that reading text is boring because the students tend to be very lazy to read the text, so that they are not interested in English lessons. The researchers used group investigation technique as one of alternatives in teaching and learning to develop the material and make students more active and interested in class. The objective of this research is to find out whether teaching using group investigation technique is able to develop the students’ reading in recount text at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang. The methodology of this research was a quantitative research method by using true experimental design. The study was carried out into two classes, Class VIII E as experimental class, and Class VIII C as control class. The results of the study showed that group investigation was able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text. Mean of posttest score of the experimental class (67.31) was higher than the control class (64.18). Based on the statistical analysis using t-test analysis, it showed the value of tcount ≥ ttable = 49.12 ≥ 1.99. It means that (Ha) was accepted and the (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that group investigation is able to develop students’ reading comprehension in recount text at eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Kota Serang.

Forty six eighth graders were selected as the sample and equally divided into experimental and control groups. Pretest and posttest were given to both groups.  Using paired sample statistics,  the results of the experimental group showed that the students’ reading comprehension and writing achievement ? significantly improved. Furthermore, the result of the independent t-test showed that with mean difference of reading comprehension was 8.609, t value 11.111(p<0.05). Moreover, the mean difference of writing achievement was 6.8043, t value 10.478 (p<0.05).   Keywords:   Literature-based instruction, reading                     comprehension and writing achievement.

The result showed that from the mean score was 71 improved to be 84, 6 and based on independent T-test the value of T obtained was 8,122 as significant level of 0.05 for 2 tailed testing and degree of freedom (df) was 48 the critical value of T table 3, 425. The value was higher than T table (8,122>3,425) and the value sig, (2 tailed)= 0.000 less than the value of significant level (0.05).  It mean that there was significant improvement the students who was taught by using buzz group technique and those who was not at SMP SENTOSA BAKTI Baturaja. The problem of this research was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to improve reading comprehension through Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 13 Lubuklinggau in the academic year 2016/2017. The strategy applied was pre experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design.. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The result was VIII.2 class with the total number of 28 students. The data were collected through test consisted of 25 items of multiple choices. The data were analyzed through four techniques: 1) Students’ Individual Score, 2) Minimum Mastery Criteria, 3) Normality and 4) Paired t-test calculation. The result of this study: (1) The mean students’ score in the pre-test was 64.00, (2) The mean score of post-test was 76.00 and (3) the result of paired t-test was 11.43, which was higher than 1.703 value of the t-table of 27 (28-1) with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. In this research the researcher formulated two hypotheses. They were null hypothesis (Ho) and alternative hypothesis (Ha). Based on the result of the paired t-test calculation showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It meant that it was significantly effective to Teach Reading Comprehension through Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 13 Lubuklinggau in the academic year of 2016/2017

As it is true for other three language skills, reading is a process involving the activation of relevant knowledge and related language skills to accomplish an exchange of information from one person to another .Reading requires that the reader focus attention on the reading materials and integrate previously acquired knowledge and skills to comprehend what someone else has written. There have been a lot of researches on reading and reading comprehension. One of the most interesting areas in reading comprehension is related to schemata theory. This interesting line of research in the second language area concerns the effect on reading performance of readers' own internalized models or emotions and beliefs, consequently different internalized models or schemata, males will have greater comprehension achievement if they read the text which sound masculine and females will have greater comprehension achievement provided that they read text which are about feminine topics. Having a look at the revised pre-university English course book, we can truly recognize that nearly all of the text in this book with the topics such as sports and exercise (with a picture of man in running), global warming and man and space (with a picture of man in the space) are male oriented .Based on the result of previous researches on reading comprehension, this paper suggests: Including balance of reading material ,one half male oriented and one half female oriented; including topics such as space ,war ,competition ,sports for males ;including topics such as house chores ,humanities and baby sittings for females in high school levels of English course book; That both male and female have the equal chance to activate their pre-existent knowledge to comprehend the text.
