This  research  studies  about  the  students’  ability  in  using  auxiliary  verb  on passive  voice  sentences  at  the  English  Department  students  STKIP  YPM. The purpose o f this research was to find out the students’ understanding in using auxiliary verb on passive voice sentences at the third semester STKIP YPM. This research was descriptive qualitative method. The population was 15 students at third semester on English Department STKIP YPM. They were selected as the sample by using total sampling technique. The data was collected by using writing test on passive voice sentences.  The  finding showed that students’ understanding in using auxiliary verb on passive voices sentences at third semester of English Education Program of STKIP YPM in academic year of 2015/2016 were good enough.

The third semester of English Education Study Program is supposed to have been able to use preposition correctly. The objectives of this research are to find out what kind of error do the students make in using prepositions based on Surface Strategy taxonomy when they write narrative text; to find out how often the students make error in using preposition when they write narrative text; to find out what are the reasons of the students to make error in using preposition when they write narrative text.This research is a qualitative research. The data analyzed are based on descriptive analysis, namely collecting the data, analyse the students error, classifying the students errors, describing errors based on their type, classifying the result of interview.This research was conducted at Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The subject is third semester of English Department academic year 2015/2016 with 32 students as participant. The data were collected from writing test and interview. The result of research showed that the highest percentages of the errors belong to addition type (48%). The second percentage is misformation type (29%). Then the third is omission type (21%). Next, the last percentage is misordering (2%). It means that the most committed errors made by the students is addition. The studenst really often made error in using preposition when they write narrative text and the students made error in using preposition when they write narrative text is the students were confuse in using prepositions and they did not understand how to differentiate them.

One of the curriculum’s expectations at the fourth semester of english department in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan (IPTS) is students are able to write narrative text. But in fact, students’ writing narrative text ability is still low, so researcher conduct a research in that field. The purposes of this research are to find out: 1) the extent of students’ writing narrative text ability, and 2) the significant effect of using character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS. The method of research is mix method by combining quantitative and qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by using interview and composition writing test. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique, it was 25 students. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, it was t-test formula by Arikunto. The findings of the research are the mean score of students’ writing ability before using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 53.54 which categorized bad, then after using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 82.50 which categorized good. The hypothesis testing showed that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. It clearly seen that there is a significant effect of character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS.

The objectives of this research are to identify the perception toward schema theory that used in reading class on the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this research was the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011. The population of this study was the whole fifth semester students of English Study Program of Bengkulu University for academic year 2010 – 2011 which consist of 38 students. The sample of this study used total sampling technique. This study was a descriptive study. The instrument of this study was questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 25 items that purpose to measure students’ perception toward schema theory. The result of this research show that the schema theory  had  86,50%  positive  perception,  12,30%  neutral  perception  and  1,20%  negative perception. It displayed that the respondents had high positive perception toward schema theory. It means that most of the students agree with the application of schema theory as a learning style in the fifth semester students of English Education Program of FKIP UNIB in academic year 2010/2011.

Abstract: Today students’ are sometime less interested in understanding active and passive voice, so that when they learn it, there is a lot of incomprehension in understanding it, especially in transforming active to passive voice. This research are to know and to find out the most dominant the students’ difficulties in transforming active to passive voice form at fourth semester students’ STAIN Gajah Putih Takengon Aceh in 2017/2018 Academic Year. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach. The source of the data for this study was taken at fourth semester students’ of English Department of STAIN GP Takengon Aceh. Besides, the source of data in this research also a grammar lecturer. The technique of data collection were used observation, documentation, and  interviews technique. The data analysis were used the Miles and Huberman’s models, including reduction of data, display, and conclusions; drawing/verifying. The outcomes of analysis, the researcher found the most dominant students’ difficulties in changing active to passive voice were: difficulties in determining subject, difficulties in using auxiliary verb be, and difficulties in using verb3 in passive voice and most dominant difficulties was found in form of past continuous they are not able to understand well, due to still use tools (dictionary). Based on the findings of this study, the researcher concluded that some students’ have a fairly good ability in understanding passive voice form, but some of the other students’ must also improve their understanding in English grammar. Keywords: Active and Passive Voice, Analysis, Students’ Difficulties   Abstrak: Dewasa ini mahasiswa terkadang kurang tertarik untuk memahami bentuk active dan passive voice, sehingga ketika mereka mempelajarinya, ada banyak kesulitan dalam memahaminya, terutama dalam mengubah bentuk active menjadi passive. Penelitian ini untuk melihat dan mengetahui kesulitan paling dominan dalam mengubah bentuk active menjadi passive mahasiswa semester empat prodi bahasa Inggris STAIN Gajah Putih Takengon Aceh pada Tahun Akademik 2017/2018. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini diambil dari mahasiswa semester empat prodi bahasa Inggris STAIN Gajah Putih Takengon Aceh dan dosen prodi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil analisis, peneliti menemukan kesulitan siswa yang paling dominan dalam mengubah active menjadi passive adalah: kesulitan dalam menentukan subjek, mengunakan auxiliary verb be, dan kesulitan dalam menggunakan kata kerja bentuk ke 3, dan  yang paling dominan ditemukan kesulitan dalam merubah past continuous, sehingga membutuhkan alat (kamus). Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa beberapa mahasiswa memiliki kemampuan yang cukup baik dalam memahami bentuk passive, tetapi beberapa siswa lain harus meningkatkan pemahaman mereka dalam tata bahasa Inggris. This research tried to find out how is students’ speaking ability at University Muhammadiyah Sorong. This research used qualitative method and descriptive design. The population is students of English department at University of Muhammadiyah Sorong in 2013/2014 academic year. The writer took only 30 students randomly of fifth semester as the sample of this research. The writer also prepared some topics that chosen by the students and used voice recorder as the research instruments to measure students’ speaking ability.The result of this research revealed that the students’ speaking ability at University of Muhammadiyah Sorong was poor. The detail aspect of speaking occurred, Pronunciation was good, Grammar was fair, Vocabulary was fair, Fluency was poor, and Comprehension was poor which based on 30 respondents of fifth semester of English Education Department at University of Muhammadiyah Sorong.

This study is aimed at describing students’ ability in writing descriptive texts viewed from analytic assessment presented by O’Malley and Pierce, involving composing, style, sentence formation, usage and mechanics. The study was conducted by applying a descriptive quantitative-qualitative method. The data were taken from 15 descriptive texts made by the second semester students of English Department, Pancasakti University Tegal 2018/2019. The result of the study shows that there are 33.4% of the students are “good”, 40% of the students are “fair”, and 26.6% of the students are “bad”. The students mean score is 65 (fair), and the scores of each components are as follows: composing is 71.6, style is 66.2, sentence formation is 60, usage is 55.7, and mechanics is 55. The result also shows that the texts are developed trough correct generic structure involving identification and descriptions. The writer suggested that the students need to study harder and practice more frequently to increase their writing ability, specifically in mechanics as their weakness in writing.

This study aim to determine the effect of using local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of English Education Program in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan. The research type is quantitative with experimental method. The researcher collected the data by using composition writing test. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique, it was 25 students. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, it was t-test formula by Arikunto. The results of the research are the mean score of students’ writing ability before using local wisdom based learning model was 53.54 which categorized bad, then after using local wisdom based learning model was 82.50 which categorized good. The hypothesis testing showed that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. The finding of research reveals that there is a significant effect of local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of English Education Program in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan.

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the improvement of the students’ pronunciation skill of /ð/ and /θ/ sounds, the population of the research was the third semester of English Education Department  of Universitas Muhammadiyah  Bulukumba in academic year of 2018/2019 consist of 2 classes they were English 18A and B, the sample chosen by using purposive sampling technique where the sample was English 18A and the total number of the sample were 21 students. This research was conducted by using Pre-Experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The result of this research shows that T-test value was 14,89 and t-table value was 1,703. Based on the statistic analysis results it was found that T-value was higher than T-table. It can be concluded that application of tongue twister improves the students’ pronunciation skill of  /ð/ and /θ/ sounds.

The aim of this study was to find out how students organize their ideas by seeing the flow of information in the themes and rhemes of clauses in discussion essays. The subject of the study was the sixth semester students of English Department at Universitas Negeri Padang. The total number of sample was 16 students from education program. The sample of the study was collected by using stratified random sampling. The data were collected through students’ writing test of discussion essay. They were asked to write discussion essay at least 4 paragraph in 90 minutes. The result of this study showed that students organized their ideas in three ways of thematic progression, including Simple Linear Progression (SLP), Constant Theme Progression (CTP), and Derived Theme Progression (DTP). However, CTP pattern was predominantly used by students in their essays. Furthermore, it was found that the students’ ability in writing discussion essay seen from thematic progression was still low that they failed to provide development of information and logical arguments in their writing. They tend to organize ideas in different topics in a paragraph that they put new information in the theme position.

This research explored the influence of lecturer’s competences toward students’ writing proficiency at the English Education Study Program of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University, Indonesia. The research question that was raised up of this research was do the lecturer competence influence students’ writing proficiency? This research aimed to investigate the influence of lecturer competence toward students’ writing proficiency. This research employed ex post facto method. The population was the fourth semester students who registered in academic year 2013/2014 for Writing III. There were 51 students were as sample of this research, selected using si.mple random sampling technique. The data collected using questionnaire and writing test. The data analyzed by applying descriptive and inferential statistics. The research found that the value of Fcount that was 3.608 at significance value was 0.035. It meant Fcount was greater than Ftable (3.608 > 2.57) and the value of significance was fewer than α (0.035 < 0.05). Those meant the regression model can predict the level of students’ writing proficiency which influenced by lecturer competence and the lecturer competence had positive and significant influence toward students’ writing proficiency at the English Education Study Program of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University, Indonesia.
