          This study aims to develop Kahoot application for grammar and reading comprehension tests on the subject of simple past tense, recount text, and narrative text. The type of this research was Research and Development (R&D) by using Borg & Gall model. There were only applied three stages in this research: 1) research and information collection 2) product planning 3) development of a preliminary form of the product. At the stage of research and information data collection, the researcher conducted need analysis. To find out the need analysis, the researcher interviewed an English teacher and some students. The next stage was product planning. In this stage, the researcher determined the exam content outline as a reference to make a quiz and collecting the material. The next stage was to develop a preliminary form of the product. It involved designing, developing, and validating the product. The subjects were 28 students in class X network computer engineering at SMKS Pembina Bangsa Bukittinggi in the academic year 2020/2021. The data collection techniques were interview and validation sheets. Based on the results of the validation sheet from three experts by the means score of percentage was obtained 68,66%, It means that English quiz using Kahoot application for grammar and reading comprehension test was feasible to be used in learning English.

           The main objective of this study was to describe the implementation of virtual debate in teaching speaking and to identify students’ speaking skill improvement after being taught by using virtual debate. To achieve the objective of the study, a qualitative descriptive method was used. The data was gathered through debate speeches given by eight debaters from SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Kualuh Hulu. It includes the Opening Government team (Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister), the Opening Opposition team (Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Opposition), Closing Government (Government Member and Government Whip), and Closing Opposition (Closing Government and Closing Whip) taken from the practicing debate for 4 meetings. The data in this study were the transcription of debate activities. The steps taken in this analysis were collecting data by transcribing debate speeches into text, identifying improvisation and fluency, and concluding the analysis. The results showed that the improvisation and fluency of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Government Member, Government Whip, Closing Government, and Closing Whip were in medium levels from the beginner level. In both improvisation and fluency levels, debate speeches showed considerable improvisation and fluency.

          The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which Score Strategy may increase students' reading comprehension and the factors that improved students' reading comprehension at Grade XI of the Office Administration Program of SMK Budi Mulia. This research was classroom action research. The subject of this research was the XI students of the Office Administration Program at SMK Budi Mulia. The instrument of this research was a test, observation, field note, and interview. The research was conducted in two cycles which included plan, action, observe, and reflect. The finding of this research showed that the students reading comprehension at the XI student of SMK Budi Mulia had significant improvement after using the SCORE Strategy. The improvement was influenced by several factors; teaching material, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s strategy.

        The objectives of the study to find out the types of English slang words used and strategies in translating slang words from English to Bahasa uttered in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” movie. The data were collected using the theory of Partridge and Bloomfield, and theories of translation strategies by Mona Baker. The result showed that there were 61 slang words were found in this movie. They were classified into 7 types of slang words namely cockney slang, public house slang, workmen’s slang, slang in theater, slang in art, slang in public school and university, and society slang. Society slang is the utmost type of slang used in the movie and other pop cultures. The translation strategies used were translation by more general word, translation by more neutral/ less expressive, translation by paraphrase using the related word, paraphrase using the unrelated word, translation using loan word, cultural substitution, translation by omission, and translation by illustration. In conclusion, the researcher mostly used translation strategy named translation by a more general word in this research which has been determined by analyzing each source of data.

        The research was conducted due to difference students’ perceptions on teacher basic teaching skills in English classroom at SMKN 1 Tanjung Raya. The design of this research was a survey research. Data were obtained through questionnaire using the likert scale. The sample was collected from 96 students at SMKN 1 Tanjung by using simple random sampling. Additionally, the analyzing of the data was done by identifying the respondent’s responses, analyzing the data and making a conclusion. The finding remarked that the students viewed teacher ability in explaining lesson was good with score 77.38%. It indicates the teachers mostly applied all the indicators of explaining skill in teaching and learning in the classroom. Furthermore, teacher ability to guide discussion skill was good enough with mean score is 73,37%. It assumed that during teaching and learning process, the teacher did a good enough to guide the discussion in the class.

          The purposes of this research were to find out what students’ learning styles and teachers’ teaching styles at MTsN 02 Bukittinggi and to find out what are the matches or mismatches between students’ learning styles and teachers’ teaching styles at MTsN 02 Bukittinggi. The design of this research was combining both quantitative and qualitative research. The population of this research was grade VIII at MTsN 02 Bukittinggi. The sample was collected from two classes with a total number of students was 78 students and two different English teachers who taught in both classes. The instrument of this research was questionnaire and interview. The result showed that both classes had the same dominant learning style. In class VIII.6, there were dependent, participant, and collaborative learning styles. Meanwhile, in class VIII.7, the dominant learning styles was collaborative, participant and dependent learning style. While the teachers also had the same dominant teaching styles which were expert, formal authority, and personal model teaching style. Based on the theory of Grasha (2002) about the relationship of learning and teaching style, the researcher found that there was a match between learning styles and teaching styles at MTsN 02 Bukittingg and it was in cluster 2.

         This research aims to know students’ vocabulary acquisition influenced by playing online games. It wants to see the comparison of students’ vocabulary acquisition and the causes of similarities or differences in students who are addicted to playing online games with students who are not addicted. This type of research was causal-comparative by using mix method. The data were obtained through questionnaires, test, and interview. The population of this research of 117 students. To determine the sample, researchers used non-probability sampling, namely quota sampling. 73 students are addicted and not addicted. To analyze the data collected, researchers used the U-test by Mann Whitney using the SPSS 20 application with a significance of α = 0.05. With the provision of significance values> 0.05, accepted and  is rejected, in this case, the researcher finds sig. (0.607> 0.05), it can be concluded that there are similarities between students who are addicted to not addicted. The occurrence of this equation is quite reasonable. Researchers used a questionnaire to group students who were addicted to playing online games. Then, a test was given to find out the comparison of students' vocabulary acquisition. After that, the data were analyzed using a U-test by Mann-Whitney. From the findings, it showed that there were similarities in students’ vocabulary acquisition between students who are addicted to playing games with students not addicted to playing games.

          Vocabulary is one of the language aspects that should be mastered by the students in language learning. It has a main role for the students in understanding and applying the four basic skills in language learning. Most of the teachers do not pay attention to the media that they use in gaining students’ vocabulary mastery. This study aimed to find out whether the use of Jeopardy Game affected the students’ vocabulary mastery or not. This study conducted a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was comprised of 186 students of the second grade of SMAN 1 Bukit Sundi that divided into 6 classes. The instrument of this study was a vocabulary test. The experiment class was taught by using Jeopardy Game, while the control class by using Guessing Game. In conclusion, there were significant differences between students who were taught by using Jeopardy Game and Guessing Game on Second Grade of SMAN 1 Bukit Sundi in 2020/2021 Academic Year

This research was done due to the lack of students' motivation in writing in MTsN 1 Agam. To find out whether there was a significant effect of using Powtoon toward students' motivation in writing, the hypothesis was formulated. This quantitative research was classified into experimental research. The sampling technique used in this research was cluster random sampling. Two groups were selected as the sample of the research that was separated into experimental group and control group. There were 37 students as the respondents in the experimental group and 34 students as the respondents in the control group. The experimental class was taught by using Powtoon as media in teaching and the control group was taught only by using an English book. The result of paired sample t-test showed that the obtained (4,722) was higher than ttable (2,028) for the degree of freedom 36 with the level significant 0,025. The null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means there is a significant effect of using Powtoon toward students' motivation in writing at the eighth grade of MTsN 1 Agam. The researcher proved that the Powtoon as a media was able to increase students' motivation in writing.

          This research was to find out the students' perception of the use of podcasts in teaching listening. The research was due to problems found in the field; some of the students were not interested in listening, students have difficulty catching the speakers' ideas, the perception of students toward podcast is different. The design of this research was descriptive research with a quantitative approach as the method of the research. The sample was collected from 26 students at SMK Pembangunan Bukittinggi which used total sampling as the sampling technique of the research. The result revealed the mean score of students' perception of the use of podcasts in teaching listening was 63.06%. It showed that the students had a positive perception regarding the use of podcasts in teaching listening.
