Advances in digital technology during the Covid-19 pandemic turned out to have an important role in communication and information. However, the limited space for movement due to the extended PPKM provides opportunities to access social media in a short time. The intensity of using social media for too long can affect the mental health of themselves not only in adolescents, it can also affect children at an early age. This Community Service Activity (PkM) was carried out at the Sekolah Teman Belajar, Cipinang East Jakarta, where there was still a lack of knowledge about the use of social media and lack of awareness of parents in assisting their children. The purpose of the service activities carried out is to provide understanding through digital literacy methods in the formation of self-esteem with national insight. The implementation method is carried out in the form of providing assistance and training to students by involving the parents of students. Then, provide an understanding of digital parenting, where as parents must also follow the development of content packaged through social media. In addition, students who are still at an early age are introduced to wayang characters, namely Arjuna and Srikandi which are packaged through animated videos. The results of the activity showed that the participants understood the explanation given by the facilitator. Then with an interactive experience sharing approach that implements 5W + 1H there is self-disclosure to students, in this case they want to make story ideas which later on from the results of the story ideas are depicted in the animated video of Arjuna and Srikandi as icons of my friends. The process of making story ideas is a process of forming self-esteem, then participants are equipped to invite families to create entertaining content by raising cultural values as the theme on both TikTok and Instagram, this aims as an effort to form national identity.

Tujuan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini untuk memotret perilaku sosial masyarakat Bengkulu terhadap penggunaan media sosial sebagai diseminasi informasi, bimbingan pribadi-sosial dan deradikasisasi. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan pada tahun 2020 di provinsi Bengkulu. Sampel berjumlah 400 responden. Pengumpulan data menggunakan skema mobile survey, melalui proses deep interview dan kuisioner via mobile. Analisis data menggunakan aplikasi survey (alvara-analytic). Hasil kegiatan pengabdian diperoleh temuan (1) Masyarakat melek digital, potret sikap dan perilaku masyarakat menunjukkan bahwa mereka aktif menggunakan media sosial sebagai sarana berbagi informasi melalui pemanfaatan fitur-fitur yang ada untuk menyebarkan informasi; (2) Penggunaan dan diseminasi media sosial efektif dapat membimbing masyarakat (pribadi-sosial) terhadap pembentukan sikap dan perilaku dalam cegah tangkal paham radikalisme. Kegiatan pengabdian diperoleh kesimpulan indeks potensi radikalisme di Provinsi Bengkulu pada tahun 2020 berada dalam kategori rendah, hal ini menandai bahwa masyarakat mampu dengan baik menggunakan media sosial sebagai deradikalisasi.�The purpose of this community service is to photograph the social behavior of the Bengkulu people towards the use of social media as information dissemination, personal-social guidance and deradicalization. This service activity was carried out in 2020 in Bengkulu province. The research sample amounted to 400 respondents. Data collection uses a mobile survey scheme, through a deep interview process and questionnaires via mobile. Data analysis using survey application (alvara-analytic). The results of the service activities obtained findings: (1) Digital literacy communities, portraits of people's attitudes and behavior indicate that they are actively using social media as a means of sharing information through the use of existing features to disseminate information; (2) The effective use and dissemination of social media can guide the community (personal-social) towards the formation of attitudes and behavior in preventing radicalism. The service activities concluded that the index of potential for radicalism in Bengkulu Province in 2020 was in the low category, this indicates that the community is able to properly use social media as deradicalization.

Along with the rapid development of technology, the current use of social media by the community is also increasing. One of the social media that is currently on the rise is the TikTok application. TikTok application users come from various backgrounds and ages, including teenagers. Video-based TikTok features accompanied by music, writing, and pictures are considered attractive so that they are liked by teenagers as a means of showing their existence and self-disclosure. TikTok is also currently developing as a way to share information. The theory applied by the researcher was Alman and Taylor's Social Penetration Theory. In addition to such theory, this paper are supported and strengthened by the concepts of Self-Disclosure, Social Media, Teenagers, TikTok, and also Self-Existence. This paper was a qualitative descritpive study which applied a qualitative study method. This paper involved several informants namely teenagers who were also the users of the TikTok application. The inclusion criteria here were teenagers who had a TikTok account, were active on TikTok, and used TikTok as part of their existence and self-disclosure. The results of this study explored the process of self-disclosure and also the existence carried out by the informants in accordance with the stages proposed in the social penetration theory. Informants passed through the stages of self-disclosure sequentially from the orientation stage to the stable stage so that the existence of teenagers in presenting themselves on social media could be observed.

AbstrakFenomena pengunaan media sosial sebagai media online semakin massive pada dekade ini. Kalangan muda sebagai generasi milenial atau digital native merupakan pengguna terbesar dalam penggunaan media sosial saat ini. Penelitian mengenai literasi digital masih jarang dilakukan terutama di Indonesia. Subyek penelitian ini adalah kalangan usia muda dengan rentang usia 17–21 tahun yang merupakan pengguna aktif media sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Informan yang dijadikan sampel penelitian sebanyak 5 orang dan 1 orang informan kunci dari pakar literasi media. Temuan yang diperoleh pada penelitian ini menunjukan pentingnya program literasi digital yang memberikan dampak positif bagi pengetahuan, pemahaman dan keterampilan dalam menggunakan media terutama media sosial yang saat ini sering dijadikan sumber informasi oleh khalayak terutama oleh kalangan yang berusia muda. Program ini memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan pada penyebaran informasi dalam menggunakan media massa terutama media sosial yang digunakan oleh kalangan usia muda sehingga ada kesadaran dalam menggunakan media. Pada pendidikan pelatihan (diklat) ini peserta belum semua mempunyai keahlian ini dikarenakan keahlian ini memerlukan latihan yang terus menerus dan konsisten sehingga mereka dapat melakukannya dengan baik. Oleh karena itu pendidikan literasi digital merupakan solusi yang dapat dilakukan oleh pemerintah dan elemen masyarakat dan civitas akademika yang peduli terhadap kemajuan bangsa. AbstractThe phenomenon of the use of social media as an online media is increasingly massive in the use of this decade. Young people as the native millennial or digital generation are the biggest users in the use of social media today. Research on digital literacy is still rare, especially in Indonesia. The subjects of this study were young people aged 17-21 years that were active users of social media. This study uses a qualitative approach to the case study method. The informants who were used as research samples were 5 people and 1 key informant from media literacy experts. The findings obtained in this study indicate the importance of digital literacy programs that have a positive impact on knowledge, understanding and skills in using the media, especially social media which is now often used as a source of information by audiences, especially among young people. information on using mass media, especially social media used by young people so that there is awareness in using the media. In this education participants do not all have this expertise because this skill requires continuous and consistent training so that they can do it well. Therefore digital literacy education is a solution that can be done by the government and elements of society and academics who care about the progress of the nation.

This chapter presents information on the usages and intent of social media by college students and administrators. Primary and secondary quantitative data is provided, as well as qualitative information obtained from interviews of multiple constituents. Researchers and postsecondary employees can more effectively examine technological trends in regard to online social networking for non-academic purposes after considering this data. Theories of self-esteem, interpersonal communication, decision making, and innovation diffusion are integrated throughout the chapter.

In this chapter, the author is interested in studying more about self-comparison through social media; especially in Jakarta, Indonesia. In Indonesia, social media are commonly used and widely used by various groups. As many as 93% of Internet users in Indonesia are accessing Facebook. Jakarta is even referred as the capital of a text-based social media. The use of social media can be influenced by the collective culture in Indonesia. In this case social media is not just a tool but also the social environment, in which social interaction occurs. This is also influences how individuals view themselves. The topic of the psychological effects of social media has been much discussed. A lot of research conducted on the effect of social on development of self-concept and including self-esteem. Social media becoming a place for comparing oneself to others and it turn out it has a great effect.

Development of the self is a vital aspect during the period of adolescence. Interaction with peers contributes to the development of various aspects of self. Due to the technological advances in today's times, adolescents interact with their peers through social media sites and portals. It is essential to study this development in light of the increasing use of social media by adolescence. Thus, the study aimed at developing an item pool to tap the construct of social media influencing self-esteem of adolescents following the procedure of tool construction. Participants included adolescents ranging between 16 to 18 years of age, who have at least one social media account for personal use. There were 110 participants for the first phase and 397 participants for the second phase of the study. The scale has eight items with the overall reliability of .7. It indicates a fitting measure of self-esteem influenced by social media, with looking-glass self theory, according to which individuals develop their self, based on their perceptions of others responses to their behaviour.

Teenager’s activities in the online social networks, influenced by the nature of teenager’s characteristic who tends to look for a good impression from others. This study examined the effects of coping strategies and self-esteem on the teenagers’ self-disclosure on online social networking. In total, 185 adolescents participated the study; they were identified using the purposive sampling. The sample characteristics were having a social media account and an active user of social media. The Revised Self-Disclosure Scale, the Self-Esteem Scale, and the Ways of Coping Checklist were used to collect data.  The results of regression analysis showed that there is a positive and significant correlation of coping strategies and self-esteem on adolescents’ disclosure in online social networking.

The use of social media has increased significantly in recent years, particularly among adolescents and this has triggered an upsurge in research into the connection between social media and self-esteem. However, there has been little attention paid to the association between social media and self-esteem in adolescents in rural areas, an oversight this study will address – focusing on adolescents in rural areas of Indonesia. This descriptive correlational study was conducted in 2018 at two senior high school in rural area of Bandung, West Java. Disproportion stratified random sampling was used to select the sample. Social Media Addiction Scale-Student Form Questionnaires (SMAS-SF) and Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale were used to collect the data. Pearson Product Moment correlation was performed to test the relationship between social media addiction and self-esteem. A total of 340 students joined our study, of which 59.7% were female. About 57.6% of the respondents felt discomfort when they had to reduce time spent using social media and 77.6% were addicted to using social media. 57.1% of the respondents have low self-esteem. There was a moderate positive relationship between addiction to social media and self-esteem among adolescents in rural area (r=0.418, p<0.05). This study suggest that social media addiction was correlated with self-esteem, for future studies could be considering gender difference to have better insight. Healthcare professional needs to design an intervention utilize social media to promote self-esteem among adolescents.   Keywords: social media, self-esteem, adolescents
