Perspectives and Problems of Education in Applied Ethics at the University of National and World Economy The article is a retrospective of the teaching of various disciplines at the UNWE, united under the common name Applied Ethics, launched in 1988 in bachelor’s degree, in 1993 - in master’s degree, in 2004 - in postgraduate (Institute of Postgraduate Studies at UNWE), and in 2008 - in a doctoral course. However, retrospection is not an end in itself and it seeks to draw conclusions that are based on an analysis of both the formal and the substantive aspects of training in these current disciplines. The introduction presents the occasion for retrospection. The first part begins with a clarification of the meaning and significance of Applied Ethics, and its relevance is justified. The second part outlines what specific Applied Ethics are taught at the UNWE. The courses are listed and summarized, indicating the majors, educational degrees of training, number of hours, and the duration of their teaching. The third part draws conclusions from the analysis of the formal aspects of teaching the subjects. It shares the positives achieved in training of various Applied Ethics courses, as well as some negative practices which hamper it. The fourth part draws conclusions from the analysis of the content side of teaching these subjects. Some indisputable principles are outlined and the perspectives of Applied Ethics training are presented, since they are important for students of all fields and professions at the UNWE. The conclusion summarizes the meaning of these educational efforts.

Partindo da caracterização da instituição universitária e de sua manifestação no Brasil, este artigo considera, num primeiro momento, os antecedentes da pós-graduação no Brasil para examinar, em seguida, a estrutura do Parecer 977/65 que tratou da conceituação da pós-graduação dando início ao processo de sua institucionalização que teve sequência com sua regulamentação normatizada pelo Parecer 77/69. No terceiro momento analisa o processo de implantação da pós-graduação no Brasil que se configurou como um novo modelo superior aos dois modelos dos quais se originou: o norte-americano e o europeu. Na sequência levanta o problema dos riscos de descaracterização do modelo brasileiro de pós-graduação representados pelo produtivismo, o que conduz ao exame do dilema produtividade-qualidade na pós-graduação, concluindo com a apresentação de estratégias para evitar a descaracterização da bem sucedida experiência brasileira de pós-graduação.HALF CENTURY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN BRAZIL: FROM THE HEROIC PERIOD TO PRODUCTIVISM BY MEDIATING A MODEL SUPERIOR TO ITS MATRIXS ABSCRACT Starting from the characterization of the university institution and its manifestation in Brazil, this article considers, at first, the antecedents of graduate studies in Brazil, and then examines the structure of the Report 977/65 that dealt with the conceptualization of graduate studies initiating the process of its institutionalization that followed with its regulation standardized by the Report 77/69. In the third moment, it analyses the process of implementing postgraduate studies in Brazil, which has been configured as a new model superior to the two models from which it originated: the North American and the European. Following, it raises the problem of the risks of the disfiguration of the Brazilian postgraduate model represented by productivism, which leads to the examination of the productivity-quality dilemma in graduate studies, concluding with the presentation of strategies to avoid the disfiguration of the successful Brazilian experience post graduate.Keywords: Brazilian Education. Abstract: The aim of doctoral programs in psychology is to help students become competent psychologists, capable of conducting research and of finding suitable employment. Starting with a brief description of the basic organization of the French university system, this paper presents an overview of how the psychology doctoral training is organized in France. Since October 2000, the requisites and the training of PhD students are the same in all French universities, but what now differs is the openness to other disciplines according to the size and location of the university. Three main groups of doctoral programs are distinguished in this paper. The first group refers to small universities in which the Doctoral Schools are constructed around multidisciplinary seminars that combine various themes, sometimes rather distant from psychology. The second group covers larger universities, with a PhD program that includes psychology as well as other social sciences. The third group contains a few major universities that have doctoral programs that are clearly centered on psychology (clinical, social, and/or cognitive psychology). These descriptions are followed by comments on how PhD programs are presently structured and organized. In the third section, I suggest some concrete ways of improving this doctoral training in order to give French psychologists a more European dimension.

The aim of the research project solved at the University of Finance and administration is to construct a new bankruptcy model. The intention is to use data of the firms that have to cease their activities due to bankruptcy. The most common method for bankruptcy model construction is multivariate discriminant analyses (MDA). It allows to derive the indicators most sensitive to the future companies’ failure as a parts of the bankruptcy model. One of the assumptions for using the MDA method and reassuring the reliable results is the normal distribution and independence of the input data. The results of verification of this assumption as the third stage of the project are presented in this article. We have revealed that this assumption is met only in a few selected indicators. Better results were achieved in the indicators in the set of prosperous companies and one year prior the failure. The selected indicators intended for the bankruptcy model construction thus cannot be considered as suitable for using the MDA method.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) has become the standard used to describe and evaluate students’ command of a second or foreign language. It is an internationally acknowledged standard language proficiency framework which many countries have adopted such as China, Thailand, Japan and Taiwan. Malaysia Ministry of Education is aware and realise the need for the current English language curriculum to be validated as to reach the international standard as prescribed by the CEFR. The implementation of CEFR has begun at primary and secondary level since 2017 and now higher education institutions are urged to align their English Language Curriculum to CEFR as part of preparation in receiving students who have been taught using CEFR-aligned curriculum at schools by year 2022. This critical reflection article elucidates the meticulous processes that we have embarked on in re-aligning our English Language Curriculum to the standard and requirements of CEFR. The paper concludes with a remark that the alignment of the English curriculum at the university needs full support from the management in ensuring that all the stakeholders are fully prepared, informed and familiar with the framework.

"A Short Modern History of Studying Sacrobosco’s De sphaera. The treatise generally known as De sphaera offered at the beginning of the 13th century a general image of the structure of the cosmos. In this paper I’m first trying to present a triple stake with which this treaty of Johannes de Sacrobosco (c. 1195 - c. 1256). This effort is intended to draw a context upon the treaty on which I will present in the second part of this paper namely, a short modern history of studying this treaty starting from the beginning of the 20th century up to this day. The first stake consists in the well-known episode of translation of the XI-XII centuries in the Latin milieu of the Greek and Arabic treaties. The treatise De sphaera taking over, assimilating and comparing some of the new translations of the texts dedicated to astronomy. The second Consists in the fact that Sacrobosco`s work can be considered a response to a need of renewal of the curriculum dedicated to astronomy at the University of Paris. And the third consists in the novelty and the need to use the De sphaera treatise in the Parisian University’s curriculum of the 13th century. This interview was conducted on 16 May 2009 at Le Quartier Francais in Franschhoek, Cape Town, South Africa. Petina Gappah is the third generation of Zimbabwean writers writing from the diaspora. She was born in 1971 in Zambia, and grew up in Zimbabwe during the transitional moment from colonial Rhodesia to independence. She has law degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Graz. She writes in English and also draws on Shona, her first language. She has published a short story collection An Elegy for Easterly (2009), first novel The Book of Memory (2015), and another collection of short stories, Rotten Row (2016).  Gappah’s collection of short stories An Elegy for Easterly (2009) was awarded The Guardian First Book Award in 2009, and was shortlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the richest prize for the short story form. Gappah was working on her novel The Book of Memory at the time of this interview.

University is relatively considered a stressful moment in the life of students due to numerous academic workloads and academic activities. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that some university students are in emerging adulthood, a developmental period which is psychologically fraught with uncertainty, instability and identity issues among others. Added to these, the context of most universities like Cameroon which is marred with political, economic and social turbulence common to other developing societies in the sub Saharan region makes life unbearable. Looking at the challenges that confront tertiary education students in the third decade of life, increases possibilities of fears that they will founder thus narrowing the route to a blossomed transition into adulthood and through the university from home into the world of work. However, observations reveal that some have remained hopeful as they continuously believe in themselves and their worth. As such, they have resiliently shrugged off the vast burden placed on them by the adult society as they struggle intentionally with continuous efforts to succeed. Being hopeful and self-efficacy beliefs are observed to be some of the effective drivers that pull emerging adults through the storms of university transition thus facilitating positive development into subsequent life stages. Unfortunately just a paucity of literature albeit theoretically actually narrates via scholarly corridors the monumental successes recorded by students as they sail flourishingly through university in the midst of storms an in the third decade of life. This paper examines and addresses the foregoing through the lenses of some theories.

El momento que viven las universidades ecuatorianas, se caracteriza por la búsqueda de una mejora significativa en el campo académico, investigativo y de vinculación con la comunidad. La intervención de algunas universidades por parte del CES, ha sido una medida que se constituye en oportunidad para lograr cubrir las expectativas de la sociedad y de las instancias superiores encargadas de velar por el desarrollo de la Academia. Las deficiencias encontradas develaron las causas principales que aquejan a estas comunidades: el pobre desarrollo de la investigación. En este marco, el presente trabajo se constituye en un tema pertinente, al proyectar una propuesta que se sustenta en la necesidad de formación de la docencia universitaria en el ámbito de la investigación. El análisis que se realiza a la propuesta, tiene un enfoque social pensado en función del servicio que presta la Universidad a la colectividad en aras de responder a la sociedad que concomitante al progreso mundial, apuntala su economía en el desarrollo del conocimiento. Considerar una estrategia para el desarrollo de las competencias investigativas en los docentes universitarios, ayudará a fortalecer la función investigativa, consecuentemente, se generará y crearán condiciones que permitan transferir tecnologías tendientes a mejorar las condiciones de vida del sector.  Palabras claves: Docencia universitaria, competencia investigativa, investigación, universidad, estrategia  Social view of the strategy for the formation of the research competence in the university professor    Abstract  The Ecuadorian universities are changing today and that is characterized by the search for a significant improvement in the academic and research fields and the link with the community. The intervention of some universities by the CES has been a measure which constitutes an opportunity to meet the society’s expectations and those of the higher level authorities to ensure the development of the university. The deficiencies found uncovered the main causes affecting these communities: the poor development of research. In this context, the present work constitutes a relevant topic, to project a proposal that is based on the need for training in the field of researching the university teachers. The analysis of the proposal has a social approach, which functions through the service provided by the University to the community in order to respond to the global society concomitant progress that seeks the development of knowledge while developing the world economy. To consider a strategy for the researching competence development in university teachers will help strengthening the researching function.
