This study investigated the instructional competencies of teachers in Mindanao State University-Sulu in the transition to alternative learning delivery methods in the age of COVID-19 pandemic. The descriptive survey method was used in this study. The researcher used two sets of standardized questionnaires to obtain the necessary data including the respondents’ profiles. The profile of the teacher-respondents was determined using frequency count and percentage. Mean was used to analyze research questions. T-test for independent samples and analysis of variance were used to test the stated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The following were the highlights of the study: (1) The common alternative learning delivery methods used by teachers were modules, Facebook and Messenger; (2) The common instructional strategies of teachers were using Messenger for sending additional instructions of the lessons and other activities; entertaining questions from students through phone calls and text messages; and distributing printed module to students; (3) The level of instructional competencies of teachers is satisfactory; (4) There is no significant difference on teachers’ instructional strategies when they are classified according to their profile; (5) There is no significant difference on the level of teachers’ instructional competencies when they are classified according to gender and the college or high school where they teach; and (6) There is a significant difference on the level of teachers’ instructional competencies when they are classified according age. The study recommended that the school administration should conduct intervention programs and policies on improving teachers’ competencies especially in times of pandemic.

The purpose of this study is to determine the demographic profiles of the respondents which are the teachers in Mindanao State University–Sulu according to gender and college, to identify the issues encountered by the MSU-Sulu Teacher towards modular distance learning approach, to distinguish the concerns of the MSU-Sulu Teacher towards modular distance learning approach, to investigate the teaching preparations on the adaptation of modular distance learning approach, and to identify the significant difference of issues and concern of the MSU-Sulu Teacher towards modular distance learning approach when they are grouped according gender and college. Frequency and percentage distribution, weighted arithmetic mean and independent t-test and chi-square are the statistical tools used to answer the entire research question. The data gathered was computed using SPSS analyzed and interpreted with the aide of the statistician. Descriptive survey method was used as the research method. This study utilizes 40 teachers from different colleges/department. Convenience sampling was used to It is the recommended number of which it is the 30% from the total population of all the faculty of Mindanao State University-Sulu.; questionnaire is used by the researcher as a research instrument of the study. The findings of the study were: 1) There is no significant difference of issues and concern of the MSU-Sulu teacher towards modular distance learning approach when grouped according gender but in contrary; and 2) There is significant difference on the issues and concern among MSU-Sulu teacher towards modular distance learning approach when grouped according colleges. The issues encountered towards modular distance learning approach were communication failure like that of instructions or confusion of students on the modules, limited teacher guidance, student’s in discourteous approach to teachers, complaints on not understanding the module, and all of which results to misbehavior on students and failure to pass worksheet on time. In addition, the concerns of the MSU-Sulu teacher towards modular distance learning approach were; first, hidden expenses on modules; second, teacher’s lack of media literacy; third, poor internet connection which intercepts communication between teacher and students; fourth, time constraint among teachers due to overload paperwork; fifth, equipment problem and complexity of the discussion as well as measurement of student’s performance; sixth,  managing student’s responses from time to time; seventh, teacher’s unavailability  and lastly, difficulties of studying among slow learners. Moreover, on teaching preparations on the adaptation of modular distance learning approach, the issues were cater and set time for student’s inquiries and be flexible to allow extension in terms of passing worksheets as well as allow parents, relative or even friends to pass worksheets in their behalf to lessen transportation expenses. Teachers must appreciate/ recognize his/her students to boost their confidence and avoid favouritism while being considerate to students who are attention seeker or may have ADHD. Correspondingly, the concerns were. Teachers must encourage handwritten answers to lessen plagiarism, on the absence of teacher, the parents and elders must guide the students in their learning at home. Teacher and parent’s guidance must go hand and hand in today’s learning. Teachers must likewise be flexible in finding solutions on printing shortage. And lastly, alternative teaching strategies like modular learning should be hone to aid lack of media literacy of both teacher and students In view of the findings and analysis, the following are recommended: Teachers must be flexible with the present kind of teaching strategy at all cost and at all aspects, Set guidelines as to establish proper communication among students and teachers, learning materials must be affordable as well as easy to understand content, teachers must develop their media literacy skills and encourage teachers to be available to their students on allotted time and cater all their inquiries with patience at all times. Furthermore, the following are the recommended research agenda: Teacher’s training on media literacy and module development programs to allow teamwork in the making process.

This study aimed to know the “Teachers’ Perception on Modular Distance Learning Approach at Mindanao State University-Sulu: Its Readiness and Challenges”. This study contained five (5) objevtives:1) to determine the profile of the respondents; 2) to determine the perceptions of the teachers towards the modular distance learning approach; 3) to find out the challenges encountered by the teachers with modular distance learning approach; 4) to determine the level of readiness on modular distance learning approach as perceived by the teachers; and 5) to find out if there is a significant difference between perception of readiness and challenges in terms of age. This study is supported by Michael G. Moore’s Transactional Distance Theory developed by Daniel Bornt (completed August 22, 2011) and Constructivist Theory by Saul McLeod, published 2019. Moore’s theory has a direct bearing on e-learning. It explains and quantifies the learning relationship between instructor and student in the e-learning situation, where there is a substantial physical or temporal distance between the two. First formulated in 1997, it considered the many different forms of distance learning as part of a group which could similarly analyzed. Transactional distance as distinguished from physical or temporal distance – refers to the psychological or communicative space that separates instructor from learner in the transaction between them, occurring in the structured or planned learning situation (Moore, 1997, p.1) and the constructivist learning theory underpins a variety of student-centered teaching methods and techniques which contrast with traditional education, whereby knowledge is simply passively transmitted by teachers to students. This study used convenient sampling technique. This sampling is also known as availability sampling. There were forty eight (48) teachers who served as the respondents from different colleges and department of Mindanao State University-Sulu, they were chosen depending on their availability at school. To gather data the researcher used survey questionnaire or the descriptive survey method.  The questionnaire is guided by the objectives of the study. It consist of twenty five (25) items. This research instrument helped the researcher to determine the readiness and challenges of teachers’ perception on modular distance learning approach at Mindanao State University-Sulu. When the questionnaire were collected, the researcher made tabulations of the gathered data and subjected them to analysis. SSPS was used in computing and analyzing the data.  Frequency and standard deviation were used to analyze the SOP1 which were the profile of the respondents. Weighted arithmetic mean for the SOP 2, 3 and 4, then the one-way ANOVA for the SOP 5. Based on the findings of the study, the distribution of first category which is age starts in 30 below has the frequency of 26, 31-40 and 41 above have the same frequency of 11, second category which is gender; there are more female respondents with 31 while male respondents have a frequency of 17 and the third category which is college. 9 respondents were from College of Arts and Sciences, both 7 respondents were from College of Education and College of Agriculture. Similarly, 6 respondents were from College of Fisheries and Senior High school Department, College of Computer Studies has frequency of 5 and 4 respondents came from College of Public Affair and College of Public. The study also revealed that the respondents agreed on teacher’s perception on modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.00 with a description of Moderately Agree. The respondents also agreed on the challenges encountered with modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.97 and a description of Agree. The result also concluded that the respondents have high level of readiness on modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.51 with a description of High Readiness. The data indicated that there is no significant difference between perceptions on the level of readiness when the data are grouped according to age. Thus, the data suggest that the null hypothesis is accepted. The data also indicated that there is no significant difference between the perceptions on the challenges encountered during modular distance learning approach when the data are grouped according to age. Thus, the data suggests that the null hypothesis is accepted.

AbstractEntrepreneurship has become the crucial subject of discussion among social and economic development specialists as the key to solving problems and reducing obstacles to human development. On the other hand, marketing is also considered as a main factor for entrepreneurial businesses’ survival and progress. Thus, low marketing skills in small businesses often lead to lower performance levels and higher risk failures. The present study aimed to identify and analyze the marketing activities among rural women entrepreneurs. This research was conducted using a survey method among women entrepreneurs who were the members of agricultural development specialized holding companies in Fars province, Iran. A random sampling method was used to select 307 rural entrepreneurial women. According to the findings, marketing methods such as face-to-face advertising, making phone calls, participating in exhibitions, and sending text messages by women entrepreneurs are widely used. In applying the marketing methods, paying attention to the components of the marketing mix, and applying marketing strategy, women entrepreneurs in Marvdasht had the highest score. The entrepreneurial women in Marvdasht are more risk-takers, who use both marketing methods and strategies more often than women in other cities of Fars. Finally, some suggestions were presented to improve women entrepreneurs’ marketing activities.

BACKGROUND Nonadherence is a major concern in the management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes where patients may discontinue or interrupt their medication for a variety of reasons. Text message reminders have been used to improve adherence. However, few programs or studies have explored the benefits of text messaging with older populations and at scale. In this paper, we present a program design using tailored and interactive text messaging to improve refill rates of partially adherent or nonadherent Medicare members of a large integrated health plan. OBJECTIVE The aim of this 3-month program was to gain an understanding of whether tailored interactive text message dialogues could be used to improve medication refills in Medicare patients with one or more chronic diseases. METHODS We used the mPulse Mobile interactive text messaging solution with partially adherent and nonadherent Medicare patients (ie, over age 65 years or younger with disabilities) of Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KP), a large integrated health plan, and compared refill rates of the text messaging group (n=12,272) to a group of partially adherent or nonadherent Medicare patients at KP who did not receive text messages (nontext messaging group, n=76,068). Both groups were exposed to other forms of refill and adherence outreach including phone calls, secure emails, and robo-calls from December 2016 to February 2017. RESULTS The text messaging group and nontext messaging group were compared using an independent samples t test to test difference in group average of refill rates. There was a significant difference in medication refill rates between the 2 groups, with a 14.07 percentage points higher refill rate in the text messaging group (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS The results showed a strong benefit of using this text messaging solution to improve medication refill rates among Medicare patients. These findings also support using interactive text messaging as a cost-effective, convenient, and user-friendly solution for patient engagement. Program outcomes and insights can be used to enhance the design of future text-based solutions to improve health outcomes and promote adherence and long-term behavior change.

Cohabitation is an intimate sexual union between two unmarried partners who share the same living quarter for a sustained period of time. This study investigated factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by students of University of Ilorin. The research design that was adopted for the study is the descriptive survey method. The population for this study comprises all of the 44,566 undergraduates at the University of Ilorin, while the target population for the study comprises 24,935 students of the Faculties of Arts; a total of two hundred (200) students constitutes the sample of this study. The instrument used for collection of the relevant data for this study was a 20-item structured questionnaire entitled “Factors Responsible for Cohabitation among Youths”. The instrument was validated with a reliability coefficient of 0.85 after a test re-test using PPMC at 0.05 alpha level. The findings of this study revealed that: reducing the occurrence of loneliness, improving the academic performance of the cohabitants, it is morally acceptable, it encourages peer reading/study, and it goes against the spiritual principle of purity, among others, are the common factors responsible for cohabitation. Also, there is a significant difference in the factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by the students of the University of Ilorin on the basis of their faculty, gender, and level. There is no significant difference in the factors responsible for cohabitation among youths as perceived by the students of the University of Ilorin on the basis of their age bracket. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that there should be a regular campaign regarding the benefits and dangers associated with students’ cohabitation, the Government should support the university management in providing sufficient accommodations for students, students should switch to cohabitation when they don’t have any other option and they should not abuse it, and parents should make sure that they are monitoring the activities of their children to avoid the danger of cohabitation.

Reading is for communication and inseparable with comprehension. Without comprehension, reading becomes meaningless. However, comprehension can be affected by lots of factors. In this study, speed was primarily presumed as such. Thus, it sampled 234 freshmen of Bohol Island State University, Clarin, Bohol, Philippines. The study utilized descriptive-correlational survey method which specifically gathered respondent’s preferred communication skills, attitudes towards reading, levels of comprehension, difference among attitudes towards reading, and the correlation between speed and comprehension. In determining reading proficiency, speed and comprehension tests were made. Results showed that in comprehension, respondents from the College of Teacher Education were very good readers, and only good readers were from the College of Technology and Allied Sciences. Respondents’ uncertain attitude towards reading was manifested in their strong preference of listening than reading. Most of them found difficulty in dealing with higher order comprehension skills. Respondents were below average in speed and only good in comprehension. It showed a highly significant difference on their attitudes towards reading. Furthermore, their speed and comprehension were correlated, which means that comprehension was dependent upon their speed; hence, that the slower they read, the poorer they comprehend.

PENGARUH PENGETAHUAN EMOSI, REKONSILIASI EMOSI, KEAUTENTIKAN EMOSI TERHADAP EMOSI SPRITUAL MAHASISWAAbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pengetahuan emosi, rekonsiliasi emosi, keotentikan emosi terhadap emosi spritual. Metode penelitian adalah survei yang dilaksanakan pada tahun 2016 di Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED). Responden berjumlah 400 orang mahasiswa UNIMED terdiri dari 200 orang laki-laki dan 200 orang perempuan yang ditentukan secara proportional random sampling. Instrumen dari setiap variabel penelitian adalah kuesioner dengan koefisien reliabilitas yang tergolong sangat tinggi. Hipotesis diuji dengan menggunakan teknik analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan emosi secara langsung dan tidak langsung mempengaruhi emosi spritual, sedangkan rekonsiliasi emosi dan keotentikan emosi hanya memberi pengaruh langsung terhadap emosi spritual. Besarnya pengaruh langsung pengetahuan emosi, rekonsiliasi emosi dan keotentikan emosi terhadap emosi spritual mahasiswa secara berturut-turut adalah 2,82%; 9,79%; dan 2,31%. Hal ini juga mengemukakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan laki-laki dan perempuan untuk memaafkan; kemampuan perempuan untuk memaafkan lebih baik atau lebih terbuka dibandingkan laki-laki. Selanjutnya, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara emosi spritual laki-laki dan perempuan; perempuan memiliki emosi spritual yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan laki-laki. AbstractThis study was aimed at determining the effect of emotional knowledge, emotional reconciliation, and emotional authenticity on spiritual emotion. The study used a survey method conducted in 2016 at Medan State University. The 400 respondents consisted of 200 male students and 200 female students chosen using the proportional random sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire with a very high reliability coefficient. The hypotheses were tested using path analysis techniques. The results show that the emotional knowledge directly and indirectly affects the spiritual emotions, while emotional reconciliation and emotional authenticity only give a direct influence on spiritual emotion. The direct influence of emotional knowledge, emotional reconciliation, and emotional authenticity on students’ spiritual emotions are 2.82%, 9.79%, and 2.31%. It also suggests that there is a significant difference in the forgiveness ability between men and women; women’s ability to forgive is better and more transparent than men’s. There are significant differences between males and females on spiritual emotion; women have better spiritual emotion than men.

Although the efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is proven, the need to improve patients’ adherence has emerged. There are only a few studies that have investigated the effect of sending text messages after a CR period to stimulate subjects’ ongoing engagement in regular physical activity (PA). A randomized controlled pilot trial was conducted after CR, sending a daily PA text message reminder to an intervention group (IG), which was compared with a usual care control group (CG) during three months of follow-up. Thirty-two subjects were assessed pre- and post-study intervention with GPAQ, submaximal iso-watt exercise testing, a 30 s sit-to-stand test, a bilateral arm curl test, and a final survey on a seven-point Likert scale. A statistically significant difference in the increase of moderate PA time (Δ 244.7 (95% CI 189.1, 300.4) minutes, p < 0.001) and in the reduction of sedentary behavior time (Δ −77.5 (95% CI 104.9, −50.1) minutes, p = 0.004) was shown when the IG was compared with the CG. This was associated with an improvement in heart rate, blood pressure, and patients’ Borg rating on the category ratio scale 10 (CR10) in iso-watt exercise testing (all p < 0.05). Furthermore, only the IG did not show a worsening of the strength parameters in the follow-up leading to a change of the 30 s sit-to-stand test with a difference of +2.2 (95% CI 1.23, 3.17) repetitions compared to CG (p = 0.03). The telemedical intervention has been appreciated by the IG, whose willingness to continue with regular PA emerged to be superior compared to the CG. Text messages are an effective and inexpensive adjuvant after phase 2 CR that improves adherence to regular PA. Further studies are needed to confirm these results in a larger patient population and in the long term.

Objective: To compare video to pharmacist education for patients taking sacubitril/valsartan. Methods: We conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing video to pharmacist education with a second randomized intervention of education delivered through text or phone call at 14 days. The primary outcome compared the change in short term knowledge between groups and the secondary outcome was long term knowledge at 1 month. Results: Forty-three patients were included. Scores improved significantly ( P < .05) in the pharmacist group from 54.1% to 85.9% and from 64.3% to 86.1% in the video education group, although there was no difference between groups (31.8% vs 22.9%, P = .13). At 30 days, scores were significantly higher than baseline (difference 16.5%, P < .05) although did decrease from the posttest (difference 7.4%, P < .05). There was no difference at 30 days between those that received text messages versus phone calls (−10% vs −5.5%, respectively; P = .36). Conclusion: We saw improvements in both short term and long term knowledge for patients receiving education through pharmacist or video education. Neither approach was more effective than the other. Clinicians can use either approach based on patient preference.
