Credit recovery programs are a form of alternative learning in which students have an additional opportunity to gain credit, or pass, a previously failed class by retaking the course, either in full or with key standards. Although little scientific research exists regarding the effectiveness of credit recovery, in addition to the short- and long-term impacts that it has on students, research has determined that students of color and students with disabilities are disproportionally represented within credit recovery programs. As a result, some of a school's most vulnerable students end up in credit recovery programs and directly experience the inequitable implications of the programming. This chapter examines the history of credit recovery, the studies that have sought to address its effectiveness as an intervention, the inequalities that the system has inadvertently created, and future recommendations for consideration.

In 2019, Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU or University) convened a Digital Credentials Lab (DCL) team to research, design, and pilot micro-credentials. The goal was to determine if there was a demand for this type of “alternative” learning experience in the market to see if it could be sustainable within the current higher education framework at the University. Through rigorous research, including both internal and external interviews, multiple pilots, and testing, the DCL sought to answer these questions and determine if micro-credentials could add more diversity to the SNHU catalog. In this chapter, the authors offer insight and experience, including findings from various pilots and learner feedback, to help inform other institutions that may be considering offering micro-credentials.

This study determined the interests, coping mechanisms and learning achievements of single mothers in Alternative Learning System. The study employed descriptive-correlational research design utilizing four-parts research instrument.  There were 115 ALS learners enumerated as respondents of the study.  Descriptive statistics and Pearson R correlation analysis were utilized.  Many of the single mothers dropped out of school when they were in their grade seven to ten level of education because they experience difficulty in terms of their economic status but they were interested to continue and finish their study in the basic education level. They adjust to stressful events they encounter; struggle with their understanding in the prerequisite and fundamental knowledge and/ or skills in their communication skills in Filipino and English, and in Mathematics and Science. Further, number of siblings is the best predictor common to the achievements of single mothers in Communication Skills in Filipino and English, Expanding One’s World Views, and overall learning achievement but not in the area of Mathematics and Science and Sustainable Use of Resources and Productivity to which the last grade attended by the single mothers is the best predictor. More importantly, the single mothers enrolled in ALS were motivated to continue and finish their study despite the difficulties they experienced. They hurdle all the odd circumstances that distract their academic journey purposive of improving their current well-being. It was recommended mainly that intensive interventions should be implemented to address the factors such as pregnancy and parenthood, boredom, academic challenges, lack of parental support, and money that generally causes the youths to drop from attending school.

The study determined the effectiveness of blended learning modules as correlates to students' self-efficacy among students in the Alternative Learning Systems in Tagum, Davao del Norte during the second quarter of 2021. Findings will serve as bases for a proposed action plan. The researcher utilized quantitative, descriptive-correlational and predictive designs among 211 students in the Alternative Learning System in different centers in the Central Cluster in Tagum, Davao del Norte selected through random sampling. The researcher used adapted-and-modified questionnaires from the following: "Evaluating the Quality, Usability, and Potential Effectiveness of Online Learning Modules: A Case Study of Teaching with Technology Grant Recipients at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville" from Goode (2003) and “Self-Efficacy as an Engaged Learner” from Schunk and Mullen (2017). The researcher utilized mean and standard deviation, Pearson-r, and linear regression for data treatment. The effectiveness of blended learning module is high. Moreover, the student’s self-efficacy is also high. Both are manifested most of the time. There is a significant relationship between effectiveness of blended learning and student’s self-efficacy. Student’s self-efficacy is influenced on the following domains of effectiveness of blended learning modules: quality of content, usability, and potential tool for effective learning. The researcher recommends seminar and training for teachers particularly on creating and enhancing contents in the blended learning modality to improve the student’s self-efficacy.

Dance students in university tend to have minimum understanding and skills in processing music to address the creativity needs in new dance works. Therefore, effective and critical learning strategies are needed so they are able to process music to create dance works. This research aims at enhancing dance students’ understanding and skills to process music in creating new dance works in the future. It was conducted using an action research design involving 30 dance students at one of the universities in Indonesia. The results showed that, in terms of skills and understanding of music, students were not used to processing music for their dance works, since they were mostly assisted by music stylists. Through internal and external music exploration learning, the musical dance students’ skills could be improved. Therefore, the findings of this research are recommended to be used as an alternative learning in enhancing dance students’ musical ability. Keywords: Dance Music, Movement Exploration, External Music, Internal Music, Dance Creativity.

One of the corruption eradication mandates assigned to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is to carry out anti-corruption education at each level of education, carry out anti-corruption public campaigns, and promote corruption eradication programmes (Law No 30/2001 on the Corruption Eradication Commission). To make anti-corruption education more effective, alternative media need to be developed that are more interesting and fun but do not detract from the essence and objectives of the learning itself. The KPK developed eight more anti-corruption and integrity board games for a wider audience, including young children, young people, students, educators, business people, and politicians. Board games are an interactive anti-corruption learning media that offer a unique way of looking at something, promote open communication, and challenge the players to work together to achieve results. Board games can be used an alternative learning media to instil anti- corruption values from a young age, and as a media for public anti-corruption promotion and campaign
