This study aimed to know the “Teachers’ Perception on Modular Distance Learning Approach at Mindanao State University-Sulu: Its Readiness and Challenges”. This study contained five (5) objevtives:1) to determine the profile of the respondents; 2) to determine the perceptions of the teachers towards the modular distance learning approach; 3) to find out the challenges encountered by the teachers with modular distance learning approach; 4) to determine the level of readiness on modular distance learning approach as perceived by the teachers; and 5) to find out if there is a significant difference between perception of readiness and challenges in terms of age. This study is supported by Michael G. Moore’s Transactional Distance Theory developed by Daniel Bornt (completed August 22, 2011) and Constructivist Theory by Saul McLeod, published 2019. Moore’s theory has a direct bearing on e-learning. It explains and quantifies the learning relationship between instructor and student in the e-learning situation, where there is a substantial physical or temporal distance between the two. First formulated in 1997, it considered the many different forms of distance learning as part of a group which could similarly analyzed. Transactional distance as distinguished from physical or temporal distance – refers to the psychological or communicative space that separates instructor from learner in the transaction between them, occurring in the structured or planned learning situation (Moore, 1997, p.1) and the constructivist learning theory underpins a variety of student-centered teaching methods and techniques which contrast with traditional education, whereby knowledge is simply passively transmitted by teachers to students. This study used convenient sampling technique. This sampling is also known as availability sampling. There were forty eight (48) teachers who served as the respondents from different colleges and department of Mindanao State University-Sulu, they were chosen depending on their availability at school. To gather data the researcher used survey questionnaire or the descriptive survey method.  The questionnaire is guided by the objectives of the study. It consist of twenty five (25) items. This research instrument helped the researcher to determine the readiness and challenges of teachers’ perception on modular distance learning approach at Mindanao State University-Sulu. When the questionnaire were collected, the researcher made tabulations of the gathered data and subjected them to analysis. SSPS was used in computing and analyzing the data.  Frequency and standard deviation were used to analyze the SOP1 which were the profile of the respondents. Weighted arithmetic mean for the SOP 2, 3 and 4, then the one-way ANOVA for the SOP 5. Based on the findings of the study, the distribution of first category which is age starts in 30 below has the frequency of 26, 31-40 and 41 above have the same frequency of 11, second category which is gender; there are more female respondents with 31 while male respondents have a frequency of 17 and the third category which is college. 9 respondents were from College of Arts and Sciences, both 7 respondents were from College of Education and College of Agriculture. Similarly, 6 respondents were from College of Fisheries and Senior High school Department, College of Computer Studies has frequency of 5 and 4 respondents came from College of Public Affair and College of Public. The study also revealed that the respondents agreed on teacher’s perception on modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.00 with a description of Moderately Agree. The respondents also agreed on the challenges encountered with modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.97 and a description of Agree. The result also concluded that the respondents have high level of readiness on modular distance learning approach with its grand mean of 3.51 with a description of High Readiness. The data indicated that there is no significant difference between perceptions on the level of readiness when the data are grouped according to age. Thus, the data suggest that the null hypothesis is accepted. The data also indicated that there is no significant difference between the perceptions on the challenges encountered during modular distance learning approach when the data are grouped according to age. Teaching approach gives significant to the teaching-learning process for both teachers and students. Thus, the students’ learning depends on what the school’s application of most effective and attainable teaching approach especially in the time of covid-19 pandemic.  With the implementation of the new normal education, the difficulties encountered among stakeholders because of an alternative learning delivery – modular distance learning being applied in order to facilitate and to continue to serve the good education in different schools in the country Philippines. With this, the study sought to determine the perceptions of the students in Mindanao State University –Sulu regarding their experiences during face-to-face learning approach and modular distance learning approach, to ascertain the factors that can affect face-to-face learning and modular learning as perceived by the students of Mindanao State University-Sulu. This also aimed to find out the significant difference of students’ perceptions in the two learning approach. This study utilized random sampling technique through launching a survey questionnaire in assessing the perceptions of the students in Mindanao State University –Sulu by at least ten percent of the total number of enrollees from the seven departments existing in the university campus academic year 2020-2021. The findings of this study revealed that students agreed that face-to-face learning approach gives significant and had much contribution to their learning while they have disagreed on modular distance learning approach. They also believed that there are factors can affect their learning either in face-to-face and during modular learning. There is a significant difference of students’ perceptions in face-to-face learning approach and modular distance learning approach that resulted to the rejection of the null hypothesis. This study recommended that principal/director should encourage and motivate the subordinates to achieve a certain task for the good of their school. He/she should conduct an orientation program to inform parents that they are partners of teachers in education in time of crisis. Principal/director should also be responsible for interacting with teachers, representative of other school, and other stakeholders to acquire the various materials and resources for the teachers and students. There should be a training/seminar programs for the benefits of his/her subordinates in achieving school’s goals. He/she should also give clear instructions to the teachers, parents that their primary role during Modular is to establish a connection and guide the students. Lastly, he/she should encourage teachers to adopt modular even during face-to-face classes.

The existence of COVID-19 pandemic brought extraordinary challenges to the stakeholders, teachers, parents, and students. Thus, the researcher believed that there is an effect of teaching-learning process in new normal education to students’ performance most especially using modular type of learning in Mathematics. With this, the study sought to determine the perception of the students regarding modular distance learning approach (MDLA) in Mathematics, identify the challenges of the students, examine the effect of MDLA to academic performance of students in Mathematics, determine the level of academic performance of students, determine the significant difference on perceptions when they grouped according to their gender and age, and determine the relationship of students’ perceptions regarding MDLA to their academic performance in Mathematics. The descriptive research design was utilized in this study. The researcher gathered one hundred seventy eight (178) grade 11 STEM students currently enrolled in MSU-Sulu Senior High School through the use of purposive random sampling. The survey questionnaire was applied in the study. Mean, frequency counts and percentage, t-test for independent samples, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and person product-moment correlation were used to analyze and interpret the data. Based on the result, the study revealed that students’ perceptions agreed on using modular distance learning approach (MDLA). It means the students had positive perceptions regarding MDLA in Mathematics. The study also revealed that students agreed on using modular distance learning approach (MDLA) in Math have little challenges. It had also a positive effect to students’ performance in which students performed very satisfactory in Mathematics which means they had good quality performance. However, the study also revealed that it has no significant difference on their perceptions when they are grouped by gender and age which means the students had the same perceptions. Moreover, the findings revealed that there is no enough evidence to conclude that there is significant relationship of the students’ perceptions to the academic performance of the STEM grade 11 students using the new method of teaching modular distance learning approach (MDLA) amid COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the academic performances of STEM students were not affected by their perceptions in MDLA. This means that the quality of performance did not depend on their perceptions. And the researcher also concluded that this approach helped students to improve their math performance. Since it proved that this approach improved the mathematical understanding and helped the students to have good performance then the researcher recommended that MDLA must be continued in face-to-face instruction and highly recommended to use modules. Teachers guided those who need special attention and need to prepare easy type of modules in Mathematics to understand well. Any member of the family can help to guide and serve as para-teachers. Trainings, workshops, and seminars should be provided to the teachers to improve themselves and academic performances of the students.

Abstract Objectives Our research question is: is there a difference in food choice values of those who choose plant-based dining options vs those who choose meat-based dining options? Our hypothesis is; sustainability/health involvement and self-reported sustainability/health behavior positively effects plant-based food choice. Methods Consumer panels were recruited from BGSU's campus and were incentivized for their participation. Sample preparation and pick up was conducted at the Oaks Dining Hall at Bowling Green State University. Consumers were served two sample tacos, one vegan and one meat-based. Panelists were provided a QR code containing the survey. Each survey included a prompt indicating what sample to consume, followed by four sensory questions about the sample, presented in a 9-point likert scale. The survey then directed participants to a page with a 30 second timer count down before prompting them to evaluate the other sample, followed by the same four sensory questions. After the samples are evaluated, the panelists are directed to an additional survey about food-choice motives, regarding sustainability/health involvement or sustainability/health self-reported behavior. This survey consisted of eight self-reported health behavior statement, seven sustainability self-reported behavior statements, four health involvement statements, and four sustainability involvement statements. Each statement was presented in a 5-point hedonic scale. Results We did not find differences in the characteristics of sustainability/health involvement or sustainability/health self-reported behaviors between those that chose vegan and those that chose meat. Among both groups, vegan choosers and meat choosers, involvement in healthy eating was higher than involvement in sustainable eating, but there was no difference in self-reported healthy eating and sustainable eating. Conclusions The student demographic we chose is more homogenous than the general population so we didn't see a significant difference in the food choice values of vegan choosers and meat choosers. Among both groups, involvement in healthy eating was significantly higher than involvement in sustainable eating. This provides a beneficial starting point for discussion and further research. This study aims to determine the effect of a university elective course focusing on gender on students' gender attitudes, critical thinking dispositions, and media literacy skills. The research design was quasi-experimental, and the study was conducted with a pretest/posttest control group. The sample of the study consisted of 74 students who took a course on gender during the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year and 70 students who had similar characteristics but did not receive the course. In the pretest and posttest evaluation conducted in the first week and the last week of the semester, respectively, the Student Information Form, the Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS), the Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale (CTDS), and the Media Literacy Scale (MLS) were administered to the students in both groups. The Course Satisfaction Assessment Form was administered at the end of the term to the students who enrolled for the gender course. The GRAS scores of the experimental group increased at the end of the course (p<0.05). The GRAS total mean scores of both the groups were similar in the pretest, but there was a statistically significant difference between their total mean scores in the posttest (p<0.05). This study recommends more comprehensive and long-term studies on integrating a gender course into the university curriculum, which will help develop students' critical thinking disposition and media literacy skills and raise awareness of gender equality among students.
