Introduction: The quality of life of patients with heart failure is influenced by several factors, one of which is spiritual factors. Tri Hita Karana (THK) is one of the concepts of the life order of the Balinese people, which basically teaches about maintaining harmony between humans and God (prahyangan), humans and humans (pawongan), humans with the environment (palemahan). This study aimed to determine the relationship between THK implementation on the quality of life of heart failure patients at Regional Hospital of Mangusada. Methods: A cross-sectional design study was used. In total 41 heart failure patients who visited Mangusada Hospital between April to May 2020, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was the attitude and behavior implementation of THK and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ). The Spearman rank test was used in this study. Results: There were a significant correlation between Tri Hita Karana's Implementation and Life Quality of Heart Failure Patients in Mangusada Regional Hospital with p-value (0.001), where p < α (0.05). Conclusion: The better the implementation of THK, the better the quality of life for patients with heart failure. The results of this study were expected to be used in providing education to patients by implementing THK to improve the quality of life for patients with heart failure.

Long term of heart failure symptoms will affect the patient functional status and ability to do self-care appropriately. Decreasing functional status and self-care ability will certainly affect the quality of life of patients. This study aimed to determine the relationship of self-care with the quality of life of heart failure patients that undergoing treatment at Heart Polyclinic of Mangusada Hospital. The research design was descriptive correlational using cross sectional approach. The study was conducted in January-February 2019. Total respondent participated were 61 respondents and were taken using a purposive sampling technique. Self care of heart index (SCHFI) questionnaire and the Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ) were used. The results showed that the average of self-care score was 45.25 and the average score of the quality of life was 60.67. Analysis using the Spearman Rank test obtained p-value = 0,000 and r = 0.506. It can be concluded that self care had a significant correlation on quality of life patients with heart failure in Mangusada Hospital. We recommended that nursing service providers play an active role in providing education and motivation to heart failure patients to improve self-care abilities.

Background: Heart failure is an escalating health problem around the world. Despite significant scientific advances, heart failure patients experience multiple physical and psychological symptoms that can impact the quality of life. Aims: To determine the (1) symptom prevalence, severity, distress and symptom burden in patients with heart failure; (2) impact of age and gender on symptom prevalence, severity, distress and symptom burden; and (3) impact of symptom prevalence and symptom burden on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with heart failure. Methods: A convenience sample of 53 heart failure patients participated in this descriptive, cross-sectional design. Symptoms and HRQOL were measured using the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale—Heart Failure and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire. Results: Patients experienced a mean of 15.1 ± 8.0 symptoms. Shortness of breath and lack of energy were the most prevalent. Difficulty sleeping was the most burdensome symptom. Lower age, worse functional status, total symptom prevalence and total symptom burden predicted 67% of the variance in HRQOL. Conclusion: Patients with heart failure experience a high level of symptoms and symptom burden. Nurses should target interventions to decrease frequency, severity, distress and overall symptom burden and improve HRQOL.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined as a progressive disease that causes renal failure and requires extended and long-term therapies. CKD patients need to choose one of these therapies to improve their quality of life. This study aims to investigate differences in the quality of life of chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).Design and Methods: The study design used is similar to the cross-sectional design. Therefore, in this study observations were carried out, a EQ_5D life quality questionnaire sheet was administered to respondents, and a purposive sampling method was used. The total number of respondents was 250 and consisted of 125 hemodialysis and CAPD patients each. Results: The results obtained using the Mann Whitney method was a p-value (0.515)> α (0.05). These results also included five components, namely the ability to move/walk to an acceptable degree, adequate self-care, performance of usual activities, minimal amount of pain/discomfort during hemodialysis and CAPD, and acceptable levels of anxiety/sadness.Conclusions: This research concludes that there is no difference in the quality of life between CKD patients  undergoing hemodialysis and CAPD.

Background: An increasing number of people around the world suffer from cardiovascular diseases such as atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF). Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to poor prognosis in heart failure (HF) patients with mild to moderate LV dysfunction, and it is most prominent in these patients. Despite advancements in care and treatment options like catheter ablation, managing AF is still a therapeutic challenge even with these advances. Aim/Objective: To determine the frequency of atrial fibrillation in heart failure patients. Subjects and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 246 patients at Adult Cardiology, NICVD, Karachi for Six months after approval from 31-08-2019 till 29-02-2020. Patients' consent was obtained verbally before data were collected prospectively. There were 246 patients with heart failure who had been diagnosed and met the diagnostic criteria. An overview of the event's history was gathered, as well as demographic data. Qualitative variables were presented as frequency and percentages, while quantitative data were given as simple descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation. A p-value of 0.05 or lower is considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 246 patients with heart failure were included in this study. The mean age in our study was 56.78±2.81 years. Whereas, mean BNP and ejection fraction in our study was 1144±87.81 pg./ml and 34.65±4.14 %. 136 (55.3%) were male and 110 (44.7%) were female. Out of 246 patients with heart failure, 52 (21.1%) had atrial fibrillation and 194 (78.9%) did not have atrial fibrillation. Conclusion: The results of this research demonstrated that a large percentage of heart failure patients had atrial fibrillation. Thus, it is essential to focus on a comprehensive way of management of heart failure and its comorbidities rather than primarily treating the cardiac symptoms. Keywords: Heart failure and atrial fibrillation.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the score of quality of life between parents and children with lupus nephritis.Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February to March 2017 in children with lupus nephritis aged 5-18 years old treated at the Department of Child Health Dr. Soetomo Surabaya Hospital. Quality of life was assessed from parents and children using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 4.0 Generic Core questionnaires. Statistical analysis of Wilcoxon signed rank test and pair t-test were used with p-value<0.05 being significant. Results: A total of 30 children were included during the study period. Sixteen children were female with a mean age of 11.5 (standard deviation 2.7) years. The differences in score between parents and children were as follows: physical functioning (82.8 vs 87.5) p-value=0.140, emotional functioning (65.0 vs 72.5) p-value=0.173, social functioning (80.0 vs 95.0) p-value=0.016 and school functioning (67.5 vs 70.0) p-value=0.116. There were no differences according to onset of diagnosis and the only differences found were in social functioning based on the induction treatment phase. Children with complications showed significant differences in physical, emotional and social functioning (p-value=0.041, p-value=0.023, p-value=0.038 respectively). Conclusion: Parents and children with lupus nephritis showed different scores of quality of life in social functioning, and it is important to consider the daily life activities of children.
