ABSTRACTSeveral studies aim at understanding the factors that determinate weather an innovation on information technology (IT)  will  be  well  received  and  effectively  used.  Gender  has  been  pointed  as  one  of  these  factors,  but  its  role  has  been  the subject of different and contradictory conclusions. This article performs an empirical study on some of the justifications most commonly accepted by those who support a significant influence of gender. The results point to the existence of a significantrole of gender, but find no evidence that support the reasoning usually used.

The subject of this research study is the applications of Information Technology (IT) to support management. This is not the sole use of IT methods and means in enterprises, however, the issues related to the automation of technological processes and software for these purposes are not the subject of these considerations. The aim of this research study is to show the innovative role of IT as a factor that enables meeting the challenges posed by managers, such as improving work efficiency, accelerating (reducing time of) handling orders, entering into competition on previously inaccessible markets, and generating the value added, which goes far beyond the capabilities of a single business entity. The business model includes collaboration unhindered by the territorial distribution of individuals, or time zone differences. The measure of effectiveness is the achieved result, and the recipient of the value thus created is not interested in where and how this value is created. Dynamically changing market expectations and the needs of recipients force the reconfiguration of the manufacturing system, which is a feature of virtual workplaces.

Monograph of RAS Corresponding Member Zh.T. Toshchenko is distinguished by the well-known features of the author's research style: a thorough analysis of modern social processes, the identification of new qualities, phenomena, trends and their deep scientific understanding in them. In this case, those phenomena that already have or will begin to exert a significant influence on the essence and appearance of society in the near future fall into focus. The subject of scientific interest Zh.T. Toshchenko had previously faced the problems of a paradoxical person, centaurism, phantoms, ethnocracy, theocracy, the fate of the intelligentsia, etc. An analysis of these topics led the scientist to create original, well-constructed scientific concepts, including the integral concept of the sociology of life [1], which has received scientific recognition community. The new book is dedicated to the precariate - an emerging social class, the place and role of which in the life of modern societies is becoming more tangible.

An empirical study was conducted measuring the degree to which Greek university students’ understanding of core philosophical concepts (that is, ‘argument’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘ethics’) has been shaped by the material taught in the classroom. The extent of this transition from pre-instructional conceptions to textbook formulations has been investigated through the use of a new questionnaire. Findings indicate that generally, students retain their pre-theoretical understanding of these terms. Within this framework, some formal definitions are closer to common sense (e.g. ‘ethics’) and some others aren’t (e.g. ‘knowledge’). Furthermore, the role of intuitions in this process is been evaluated, leading to the ascertainment that previous philosophical encounters seem to play a crucial role in determining actual understanding.

The author represents a qualitative and meaningful analysis of the results of an empirical study of the professional orientation of university students with disabilities. The obtained results indicate the corresponding statistically-significant differences in the subject area, professional intentions and the status of the professional identity among university students with disabilities and students with a conditional norm of health. The analysis of the results of the empirical study demonstrates the immaturity of the professional awareness of students with disabilities, which consists in the absence of taking into account the existing limitations in their future profession, a low level of awareness of its essence and the opportunities it provides, as well as the problematic nature of the status of their professional identity. This allows us to assert that the relevant vector of educational and professional activity of students with disabilities in higher education should be the directed development of an adequate professional orientation and its components, in addition, taking into account the nature of health limitations.

The role of explicit informational feedback about semantic and syntactic errors was investigated in an experiment where university students were required to learn a miniature artificial language. A computer presented a series of simple geometric objects on a visual display screen, and alternately provided the proper description of the configuration (a model) or accepted and corrected the descriptions of the subject. The four experimental conditions were that (a) both semantic and syntactic errors were corrected; (b) only semantic; (c) only syntactic; (d) no errors were corrected. The results indicated that the subjects did not effectively utilize the feedback they received, and under all conditions learned the language from the model sentences which were presented.

Cyberbullying has become a major social concern because it raises questions about technoethics. It has been the subject of research, information and prevention activities for different groups to protect against the misuse of technology, and because of that, this paper is based on an exploratory study about the sociological phenomenon of cyberbullying among Portuguese university students. The paper stresses the connection between the concepts of bullying and cyberbullying while promoting a flexible epistemological model that highlights the emerging nature of these phenomena based on the theoretical contribution of Gregory Bateson. In the end, the authors present the main conclusions of the empirical study.

An empirical investigation into perceptions about the handling of knowledge in organisations. The findings are based on replies to a non-random postal questionnaire based survey. The respondents were the senior human resource management (HRM) and information technology (IT) specialists at the 60 largest Scottish companies (as measured by market capitalisation). The findings in the main confirm both ideas in the literature in general and the findings and conclusions from previous studies including Alavi, and Leidner (1999). In addition some new aspects are reported which can be construed as showing support for the idea of professional groupings holding onto knowledge and for the existence of ambivalence towards the emphasis placed on the role of IT in conducting KM.
