AbstractIn patients with chronic renal failure, hemodialysis therapy is needed to replace kidney function by removing nitrogenous substances and toxins in the blood and excessive water. Appropriate management of patients with chronic kidney failure in addition to preventing complications is expected to increase the client's life expectancy. In patients with chronic kidney failure, quality of life also reflects the quality of treatment because it involves physical, psychological, and social processes to be achieved. A good quality of life is needed by hemodialysis patients to prevent the disease from getting worse. This literature review aims to describe the quality of life hemodialysis patients. This study accesses an online database with electronic searches on Pubmed, Portal garuda and Proquest. The search was conducted by combining the keywords “quality of life, chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis” and articles published in the period 2012-2021. Instrumen for the literature review using Strobe instrument. The results of the literature review show that the quality of life score on the physical health dimension is low while on the psychological and environmental dimensions the quality of life score is high. . It is hoped that this study can be a reference for nurses in providing holistic nursing care to patients undergoing hemodialysis so that their quality of lifecan improve. This research is then needed as a data base for the development of other researchers. Keywords: Chronic renal failure; hemodialysis; quality of life AbstrakGagal ginjal kronik disebabkan karena disfungsi ginjal yang bersifat menahun, progresif, irreversible yang memerlukan terapi hemodialisa, pengaturan pola makan dan akses cairan yang masuk. Hemodialysis patients were mostly physically inactive and their functional capacity had been reduced, even though exercise could improve physical fitness, aerobic capacity, quality of life, decrease depressive symptoms and include dialysis adequacy (measured as Kt/V). A lower Kt/V value means that the patient had inadequate HD, can lead to increased hospitalization time and costs, increased morbidity and mortality and should therefore be avoided. This study aims to determine the application of intradialytic exercise to hemodialysis adequacy. The method used in this study was literature review with electronic searches on 4 online databases: Wiley Online, Sciencedirect, clinical key and EBSCOhost (Medline and CINAHL plus). The keywords used were "Intradialytic Exercise", "Intradialytic Training", "Hemodialysis Adequacy", "Urea reduction" and "Kt / V". The criteria for the articles chosen in this paper: full text, published in 2015-2020 and in English. Selected articles were assessed for quality using an evaluation table. From the search results and assessed for quality, there were 7 articles. The results showed that the application of intradialytic exercise improves hemodialysis adequacy, quality of life, physical fitness, lowers blood pressure, and had an effect on the mental of hemodialysis patients. In its application, it needs support from staff and hospital organizations so that it could be carried out optimally without neglecting other important tasks. The type of exercise most widely used was aerobic exercise. This exercise did not require special tools like other types of exercises. Easy to implement and did not cause side effects, so it is recommended as a type of exercise that can be applied.

Background : Hemodialysis is one of the therapies for Chronic Kidney Failure (CKD) patients. This process takes place on an ongoing basis which is closely related to the quality of life. Quality of life is strongly influenced by family support. One form of family support is emotional support which includes forms of affection, trust, attention, assistance during therapy. With this support, it affects patient compliance with therapy programs and medical treatment programs so that it will improve the patient's quality of life. Objective: To determine the relationship between family support and quality of life of hemodialysis patients. Based on journals that have been analyzed by researchers using a literature review research design or literature review study literature review Methods: search for this research article through four databases, namely Google Scholar, ProQuest, EBSCO, and PubMed using keywords and inclusion criteria, namely 21 journal using Indonesian and English, the type of article publication is full-text articles, original research articles, articles that have ISSN and DOI, the theme of the article is the relationship of family support with the quality of life of hemodialysis patients, in the 2016-2021 period with the literature review method. Results: The results of this study showed a significant relationship between family support and quality of life of hemodialysis patients with p-value=0,001 <a=0.05 with a positive correlation direction with low correlation strength. Conclusion: The higher the support from the family, the better the quality of life for chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Background: Studies have shown that spiritual/religious beliefs are associated with mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, few studies evaluated how spiritual/religious coping (SRC) could affect hemodialysis patients. Objectives: The present study investigated the role of SRC behaviors on HRQoL and depressive symptoms in hemodialysis patients. Design and Participants: This was cross-sectional study with 184 patients. Patients completed the Beck Depression Inventory, Brief SRC Scale, Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and a Sociodemographic and Health Characterization Questionnaire. Results: From 218 patients, 184 (84.4%) were included (53.8% male with a median age of 55.9 years). Negative SRC, but not positive SRC, was associated with depressive symptoms. Positive SRC presented significant effects in SF-36 pain and physical and social functioning. On the other hand, negative SRC exhibited significant effects in SF-36 role emotional, energy/fatigue, pain, and physical functioning. Conclusion: SRC influences the mental health and HRQoL in Brazilian hemodialysis patients in two distinct ways. If used positively, it may have positive outcomes. However, if used negatively, it may lead to dysfunctional consequences such as greater depressive symptomatology and affect HRQoL. Health professionals must be aware of these “two sides of the same coin.”

Background: Hemodialysis patients not only suffer from somatic disorders but are also at high risks of psychiatric problems. Early this year, the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused great panic and anxiety worldwide. The impact of this acute public health event on the psychological status of hemodialysis patients and its relationship with their quality of life have not been fully investigated. Methods: This study comprised two parts. The initial study enrolled maintenance hemodialysis patients treated in Ruijin Hospital for more than 3 months from March to May 2020 during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Patients completed three questionnaires including the Impact of Events Scale–Revised (IES-R), General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and Kidney Disease Quality of Life (KDQOL) Short Form (SF). Follow-up study was performed from December 2020 to January 2021, when the pandemic of COVID-19 has been effectively contained in China. Only patients enrolled in the initial study were approached to participate in the follow-up study. Results: There were 273 maintenance dialysis patients enrolled in the initial study and 247 finished the follow-up study. For the initial study, the estimated prevalence of nonspecific psychiatric morbidity was 45.8% (125/273) by GHQ-28. By IES-R, 53/273 (19.4%) patients presented with total scores above 24 that reflected clinical concerns. We found a significant difference regarding KDQOL scores between patients with different stress response (IES-R) groups (p = 0.026). Our follow-up study showed that KDQOL and SF-36 scores were significantly improved in comparison with those in the initial study (p = 0.006 and p = 0.031, respectively). Though total scores of GHQ-28 and IES-R did not change significantly, some subscales improved with statistical significance. Furthermore, gender, education background, and duration of hemodialysis were three factors that may affect patients' mental health, quality of life, or health status while dialysis duration was the only variable that correlated with those parameters. However, these correlations were combined effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the dialysis itself. Conclusions: We found a correlation between changes in the mental health status of dialysis patients and changes in their quality of life. These responses were also mediated by patients' psychosocial parameters. Our results urge the necessity of psychotherapeutic interventions for some patients during this event.

Low vision has been declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be one of the major ophthalmologic problems requiring global attention. Low-vision patients experience a reduced vision-related quality of life due to impaired visual function. However, this condition that interfere their daily life could also make a significant effect on their mental health. Therefore, the final goal of low-vision rehabilitation is to improve the daily quality of life. However, the absence of vision at birth appears to protect against psychosis, whereas later-life visual loss appears to predispose to the development of psychotic symptoms. Thus, our purpose in this literature review is to learn how the onset of visual loss may affect patient's mental health.

This article analyzes data collected from Liberian women afflicted by the Ebola virus disease, survivors of the virus and noninfected persons living in Ebola-affected homes. This research is one of the first statistical analyses examining factors diminishing quality of life: negative experiences, stigma, and psychosocial symptoms among females affected by the virus after the outbreak. The research presents a thorough literature review, including research related to other infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, to inform the gap in studies on Ebola’s effects on quality of life. Women who are Ebola virus disease survivors demonstrate significant differences in stigma and psychosocial stress when compared to their female peers. This article attempts to broaden understanding of the conditions and mental health of women affected by Ebola.
