Abstract. The relevance of the study is due to the lack of data on the state of nonspecific cellular immunity in studies with sera and autostrains of S. aureus isolated from patients with allergic dermatoses, which would reflect the intensity of antimicrobial immunity in patients with allergic dermatoses, aggravated by staphylococcal infection, depending on the severity of dermatosis. The aim of the study was to determine and analyze the results of antimicrobial immunity indicators in patients with atopic dermatitis and true eczema, aggravated by staphylococcal infection, using sera and autostrains of S. aureus, depending on the severity of the disease. Material and methods. It was included 107 patients with different stage of the allergic dermatoses severity and control group of 15 healthy individuals to the research . The patients were divided into 3 groups in according to the severity of cutaneous process course. There were determined the basic indices of initial stages of phagocytosis and oxydepending bactericidal activity of the phagocytes. It was conducted the immunologic examinations using the autostrains patient from the locus morbi and standard strain S. aureus ATCC for the estimation of antimicrobial immunity. Results. Evaluation of phagocytosis indices in patients with allergodermatosеs showed a correlation between the severity of the disease course and the level of inhibition of the cellular level of nonspecific immunity. According to the results of studies using autostrains S. aureus, the most significant inhibition of phagocytosis (p ≤ 0,05), compared to the values of similar indicators in the control group of healthy individuals, it was found in the groups of patients with moderate and severe atopic dermatosis (AD) course, respectively: phagocytic activity (PhА) (78,1 ± 1,4) and (72,4 ± 1,4) and (71,7 ± 0,8) %; phagocytic number___ (PhN) (5,3 ± 0,2) and (4,3 ± 0,2) and (3,5 ± 0,1) absolute number (abs. num.); phagocytic index__ (PhI) (6,8 ± 0,2) and (6,2 ± 0,2) and (4,8 ± 0,1) abs. num.; phagocytic capacity (PhC) (30,3 ± 1,0) and (26,5 ± 1,8) and (22,6 ± 0,8) ×103 microbial cell /mm3; spontaneous test of the renovation of nitroblue tetrazolium (sNBT) (42,1 ± 1,3) and (48,1 ± 1,2) and (50,6 ± 0,3) %; induction test of the renovation of nitroblue tetrazolium (іNBT) (63,4 ± 1,6) and (53,4 ± 0,8) and (51,7 ± 0,7) %. In the patients with true eczema (TE), they revealed a similar regularity of phagocytosis inhibition, most pronounced in patients with a severe disease course (p ≤ 0,05), but with a slightly smaller degree of difference between the indicator values of phagocytosis compared with the group of healthy individuals, respectively: PhА (74,8 ± 1,3) and (78,1 ± 1,4) %; PhN (4,5 ± 0,1) and (5,3 ± 0,2) abs. num.; PhI (5,9 ± 0,2) and (6,8 ± 0,9) abs. num.; sНСТ (46,0 ± 0,6) and (42,1 ± 1,3) %; іНСТ (51,8 ± 0,8) and (63,4 ± 1,6) %. Conclusions. The results of identification of phagocytosis in patients with allergodermatosеs using the standard culture of S. aureus ATCC 25923 generally reflect the described regularities of inhibition in patients of the cellular level of nonspecific immunity, but are less presentable for their identification in comparison with the autostrains. Keywords: allergic dermatoses, severity of the course, S aureus autostrains, S. aureus ATCC 25923, antimicrobial resistance.

Summary Background It has been shown that decreased expression and activity of extracellular matrix protein mindin correlate with various types of cancers including breast, colon and lung cancers. The aim of the presented study was to investigate the serum mindin levels in prostate cancer. Methods Mindin concentrations in serum were measured in 56 patients with prostate cancer (mean age 68 years) and in control group of 29 healthy men (mean age 64 years) using commercially available enzymatic immunoassay (Cusabio, WuHan, China). The patients were divided with respect to the severity of the disease into two groups according to the EAU guidelines (stage 1, 2 – less severe tumours, stage 3, 4 – severe tumours). Results Serum mindin concentrations were significantly elevated in the group of healthy individuals unlike in the patients with prostate cancer (2.12 ng/mL vs 0.78 ng/mL, with P=0.0007, AUC=0.705). Patients with less severe tumours (stage 1, 2) and severe tumours (stage 3, 4) had significantly decreased levels of S-mindin as well (P=0.0037), although the difference in serum mindin concentrations between the patients with less severe and severe tumours was not significant. Conclusions Concentrations of mindin were decreased in patients with prostate cancer and reduced in patients with less severe prostate cancer as well. Mindin appears to be a promising diagnostic marker useful in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Aim. To compare the levels of ceruloplasmin in tears, saliva and blood serum of patients with herpetic stomatitis and eye herpes to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. Methods. Ceruloplasmin levels were determined in tears, saliva and blood serum of 30 children, 22 adult patients with herpetic keratitis and 27 children with acute herpetic stomatitis. Biological fluids of 62 healthy individuals were used as the control group. Results. In patients with eye herpes infection, сeruloplasmin levels increased in oral fluid and blood serum and markedly decreased in tears of both affected and intact eye. Ceruloplasmin levels in biological fluids normalized only among children with light forms of eye herpes at discharge. In the case of acute herpetic stomatitis, ceruloplasmin levels increased in oral fluid and blood serum, depending on the severity of the disease. After the treatment, ceruloplasmin levels in tears, oral fluid and blood plasma normalized only in children with dendritic ulcer (herpes epithelial keratitis), while in adult patients with chronic relapsing eye herpes and in children with highly invasive eye herpes ceruloplasmin levels did not normalize. Conclusion. In the case of infection detected multidirectional ceruloplasmin levels in tears, oral fluids and blood serum changes were found in patients with herpes. Ceruloplasmin level decreased in tears, and increased in blood serum and oral fluid.

The objective: of this study was to assess the type of temperament and stress load in women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Materials and methods. The research included 200 women with diagnosis of PMS who formed basic group. The control group consisted of 50 women without PMS. The type of temperament was determined by Eysenck’s Personality Inventory test. Level of psychoemotional stress was assessed by L. Reeder’s scale. Results. Sanguines predominated among healthy individuals. While among patients with PMS more than a third part was melancholic (χ2=10.01; p=0.002) and choleric persons (χ2=4.19; p=0.04) both, number of sanguines was in 3.20 times less compared to healthy persons (χ2=29.44; p<0.001). The score of neuroticism in women in basic group was significantly higher on 17.03% compared to controls (p=0.002). The highest rate was found in patients with the severe course of the disease – on 27.50% (p<0.001). The average score of psychoemotional stress in women in control group was on 10.81% higher (p=0.01) than in patients in basic one. That is mean the greater level of stress in individuals with PMS. Conclusion. The following types of temperament as melancholic and choleric predominate among women with PMS (p<0.05). The level of neuroticism is significantly increased in patients with PMS (p=0.002). High level of psycho-emotional stress, which correlated with the severity of the disease is typical for this pathology (p<0.05). The greatest indicators of stress factor were found in patients with neuropsychical, cephalic and crisis forms of PMS. Key words: premenstrual syndrome, temperament, stress level.

Survey of 67 patients with viral hepatitis C was made. Of these comorbidities were identified in 11 patients. The survey was conducted at the height of clinical manifestations, in the waning of clinical symptoms in early convalescence. The control group consisted of 27 healthy individuals. In patients with hepatitis C dysfunction of neutrophils and monocyteswas revealed. These changescorrelate with the severity of the process. A consequence of the metabolic defect is a decrease in phagocytic activity of neutrophils and monocytes, which allows to offer methods of studying the metabolism of peripheral blood phagocytes as additional criteria to assess the severity of the disease, the prognosis of viral Hepatitis C, its outcomes and complications.

Introduction: Parasitic myositis is caused by some parasites such as T. gondii and T. canis. So, the aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence T. gondii and T. canis in patients with myositis and healthy individuals. Methods: A total of 108 samples were randomly selected as the control (54 healthy individuals) and test (54 myositis patients) groups. IgG and IgM antibodies against T. gondii and IgG antibodies against T. canis were measured by the ELISA. The detection of chronic and acute toxoplasmosis was performed by the ELISA IgG avidity. The presence of T. gondii in blood was evaluated by the nested-PCR. Results: Of 108, 33 (30.6%) cases were detected positive for IgG against T. gondii that 19 (35.2%) and 14 (25.9%) were observed in myositis patients and healthy individuals, respectively (P=0.296). Of 19 positive cases, 12 (63.2%) and 7 (36.8%) cases were detected as chronic and acute toxoplasmosis, respectively, while, all positive cases in the control group had chronic toxoplasmosis (P=0.013). One (1.9%) sample was detected positive for anti- Toxoplasma gondii IgM and two (3.7%) samples were found positive for IgG against T. canis by the ELISA that these positive cases were observed only in myositis patients (P=1.000 P=0.495, respectively). B1 T. gondii gene was amplified in 12 (63.2%) and 1 (7.1%) in myositis patients and healthy subjects (P=0.001). Conclusions: Our findings showed that there was a relatively high prevalence of acute toxoplasmosis in myositis patients in comparison with the control subjects in southwest of Iran.

Staphylococcus-associated glomerulonephritis (SAGN) occurs as a complication of staphylococcal infection elsewhere in the body. Dermatomyositis (DM) can be associated with glomerulonephritis due to the disease per se. We report a case of a 40-year-old male patient with DM who presented with acute kidney injury, and was initially pulsed with methylprednisolone for 3 days, followed by dexamethasone equivalent to 1 mg/kg/day prednisolone. He was subsequently found to have SAGN on kidney biopsy along with staphylococcus bacteraemia and left knee septic arthritis. With proof of definitive infection, intravenous immunoglobulin 2 g/kg over 2 days was given and steroids were reduced. He was treated with intravenous vancomycin. With treatment, the general condition of the patient improved. On day 38, he developed infective endocarditis and died of congestive heart failure subsequently. Undiagnosed staphylococcal sepsis complicating a rheumatological disease course can lead to complications like SAGN, infective endocarditis and contribute to increased morbidity and mortality, as is exemplified by our case.

Abstract Background Cognitive dysfunction in idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) is an important clinical co-morbidity that is associated with impaired lung function. The aim of the work is to assess cognitive function in major IIP and to find out the relation between cognitive dysfunction and the oxygenation parameters. Results Fifty individuals were involved in the study; 30 patients with major IIP and 20 healthy individuals. Patients with IIP had significantly lower mini mental state examination (MMSE) score compared to the control group (P < 0.001). Wechsler Deterioration Index (WDI) revealed that 33.3% (n = 10) of the patients with IIP had sure cognitive impairment and 26.6% (n = 8) had ongoing cognitive deterioration. Patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) had lower cognitive function than other IIP. Conclusion There is an impairment of cognitive function in patients with major IIP, particularly in IPF, as measured by WDI and MMSE. Further large studies are needed to assess the possible predictors of cognitive impairment and their effects on the patients’ outcome.

IntroductionIn the relapsing remitting type of multiple sclerosis (MS) reducing relapses and neurodegeneration is crucial in halting the long-term impact of the disease. Medical disease-modifying treatments have proven effective, especially when introduced early in the disease course. However, patients still experience disease activity and disability progression, and therefore, supplemental early treatment strategies are warranted. Exercise appear to be one of the most promising supplemental treatment strategies, but a somewhat overlooked ‘window of opportunity’ exist early in the disease course. The objective of this study is to investigate exercise as a supplementary treatment strategy early in the disease course of MS.Methods and analysisThe presented Early Multiple Sclerosis Exercise Study is a 48-week (plus 1-year follow-up) national multicentre single-blinded parallel group randomised controlled trial comparing two groups receiving usual care plus supervised high-intense exercise or plus health education (active control). Additionally, data will be compared with a population-based control group receiving usual care only obtained from the Danish MS Registry. The primary outcomes are annual relapse rate and MRI derived global brain atrophy. The secondary outcomes are disability progression, physical and cognitive function, MS-related symptoms, and exploratory MRI outcomes. All analyses will be performed as intention to treat.Ethics and disseminationThe study is approved by The Central Denmark Region Committees on Health Research Ethics (1-10-72-388-17) and registered at the Danish Data Protection Agency (2016-051-000001 (706)). All study findings will be published in scientific peer-reviewed journals and presented at relevant scientific conferences.Trial registration numberNCT03322761.

BACKGROUND Balance training in young adults may increase coordination, cognitive function or the symmetry of strength on both sides of the body. It is an essential tool for injury or fall prevention and a precondition for becoming a professional athlete. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Xbox 360 Kinect training on postural balance in young, healthy individuals. METHODS The study enrolled 75 individuals who were randomly assigned to three equal groups. The first group (Group VR) performed exercises on an Xbox 360 Kinect console, and the second group (Group T) performed conventional all-round exercises. The third group was a control group (Group C). Each group underwent balance assessments on the Biodex Balance posturographic platform, including the Balance Error Scoring System test, before and after the training cycle. The level of statistical significance was set at P<.05. RESULTS Group VR and Group T achieved statistically significant improvements in the sway index compared with baseline. Group T gained significant decrease in the sway index on the unstable surface (P=.002). Group VR and group T demonstrated significant decreases in the mean sway index on stable and unstable surfaces (group VR — P=.035; group T — P=.001) Group C did not achieve a statistically significant improvement in the sway index. None of the groups demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in the test error count. CONCLUSIONS Virtual reality in the form of video games played on an Xbox 360 Kinect console may be an effective method of balance training in healthy individuals.

Introduction. Anal incontinence (insufficiency of the anal sphincter) is a disease in which there is an uncontrolled discharge of intestinal contents through the anal canal when it is impossible to keep the episode of defecation to an acceptable place, which is a socially significant problem. Patients suffering from anal incontinence experience a feeling of psychoemotional inferiority and are often socially maladjusted. Insufficiency of the anal sphincter is a widespread pathology. The course of therapy is, as a rule, complex, and usually includes the use of medications, cleansing enemas, as well as non-drug methods of treatment (exercise therapy, massage, physiotherapy). At the same time, information on the possibility of including such a method of non-drug treatment as osteopathic correction in the complex therapy of anal incontinence in the available literature has not been found. The aim of the research was to study the possibility of including osteopathic correction in the complex treatment of anal sphincter insufficiency in teenagers.Materials and methods. The study involved 32 teenagers with functional anal sphincter incontinence, aged 14–17 years, undergoing treatment in the department of surgery. The patients were divided into 2 groups by the method of simple randomization — the main group (16 people, they received osteopathic correction in addition to the standard treatment) and the control group (16 people, they received only the standard treatment). At the beginning and at the end of the study there were assessed the osteopathic status and the disease severity using the Wexner scale and the Browning–Parks scale. The obtained results were analyzed by methods of nonparametric statistics. Results. It was found that the inclusion of osteopathic correction in the complex treatment of teenagers with anal sphincter insufficiency is accompanied by a statistically significant (p<0,05) decrease in the severity of the disease. It was revealed that children suffering from anal sphincter insufficiency are characterized by a high frequency of detection of regional (pelvic region, lumbar region) and local (some skull sutures, rectum, ascending and descending colon) somatic dysfunctions. After osteopathic correction, the frequency of detecting regional and local dysfunctions in teenagers is statistically significantly lower (p<0,05) compared with children who did not receive osteopathic correction.Conclusion. The obtained results demonstrated the ability to include the osteopathic correction in the complex treatment of teenagers with anal sphincter insufficiency.
