Planning of areas in the vicinity of large industrial plants

Planning space around large industrial plants affects urban development and significantly impacts the integration of industrial areas with a city’s structure. Large industrial plants act as functional and spatial barriers within the urban fabric. Their immediate areas undergo transformation and are currently becoming sites of various uses. New manufacturing technologies limit the nuisance caused by industry and the siting of plants aids in using the areas around them. The objective of this paper is t present an analysis of the transformation of the existing function-spatial structure, transport layout and compositional relations in the vicinity of selected large industrial plants in Kraków and Skawina. The study covered areas around the north-eastern territory of the Metallurgy Plant in Kraków and selected industrial plants in Skawina. This study was based on original analyses of the existing functio-spatial structure, compositional relationships and transport accessibility. The form of development of areas adjacent to large industrial plants was found to be a product of local determinants. Compositional relationships and functional linkages affected the quality of the space and its visual reception, which in many cases is a natural urban development reserve. Due to the specificity of industrial areas, concentrations of vehicular traffic and dominance within space, it may prove interesting to develop a dedicated form of development for areas near large industrial plants. This form would have to shield against possible nuisances while also offering the potential for a new, attractive and diverse functio-spatial structure. The transformation of and the problems present in these areas are distinctive of many cities in Poland and around the world and require new, cohesive planning principles.

The Sunamganj district is covered by major Haor systems in the north-eastern region of Bangladesh. Flash flood is the most commonly occurring water related disaster in the Haor areas. During the flash flood it is very common that people lost their primary agricultural productions which are the only source of their livelihood. The present study focuses on the effects of 2017 early flash flooding on rice and fish production of Sunamganj Haor areas. The flood caused enormous damage to agriculture such as rice especially Boro rice and fish production on which the Haor dwellers rely upon for their livelihood. The total affected land of Boro rice cultivation in Haors of Sunamganj was 149,224 hectare and the total amount of damaged rice was 393,855 metric ton (MT). The total number of affected farmers was 315,084. The early flash flood also affects the quality of Haor water which caused the death of fishes. The total amount of damaged fish was 49.75 MT and the loss was 158.70 lakh taka. The total number of affected fishermen was 44,445. This findings could be very useful for the environmental scientists to predict the probable future effects on agricultural production due to early flash flood events in Sunamganj Haors areas. :Since disabled people have lower income and their geographical mobility is lower, they often tolerate inappropriate housing conditions, i.e. conditions that do not suit the type and degree of their disability. This article presents the results of interviews conducted among people affected by various degrees of disability. The main aim of the study was to determine the housing needs in regard to quality and to the extent to which the needs are satisfied by people living in the north-east of Poland. The first stage of the study involved identification of the factors that determine the quality of housing that satisfies the basic needs and barriers which prevent performing everyday activities. Subsequently, a multidimensional analysis was conducted to assess the extent to which the housing needs are satisfied in groups identified by the degree of disability. The synthetic measures and distance-related indexes suggested the existence of large diversity in the level of satisfaction of housing needs in the groups of disabled people under study.

Muga is an exclusive naturally golden coloured wild silk obtained by the Antherea assamensis silkworm species grown in the north-eastern region of India. Although many research studies on Bombyx mori silk can be found, but studies that involve muga silk is uncommon. This article attempts to characterise the muga cocoon of two commercially available crops (Kotia and Jethua) in three prominent muga rearing regions. Reeling studies on these have also been conducted to assess the regional and seasonal influences on silk reelability performance. Kotia cocoons are found to possess better cocoon quality and reeling performance in comparison to Jethua muga cocoons.

DURING the past few years, increasing emphasis has been placed on the use of nitrogen fertilized grass species, rather than grass-legume mixtures, in the North-eastern United States. According to Washko et al. (1967)) factors contributing to this trend have been the spread of the alfalfa weevil, development of improved, high yielding grass varieties, the availability of nitrogen fertilizer at economical prices, better harvesting and storage techniques, and the demonstration that grasses fertilized adequately and cut early are equivalent to legumes in nutritive quality. Of the different grass species examined, cocksfoot (Dactylis glomerata) has been shown to respond well to nitrogen fertilization, to be highly competitive, and to recover well under severe cutting managements. It has been claimed that cocksfoot is inferior nutritionally to other grasses. This was not substantiated in sheep feeding trials with herbage cut at different growth stages (Reid et al., 1962; Reid and Jung, 1965, or in subsequent grazing trials (Reid, Jung and Kinsey, 1967).

The world practice of distance learning has updated the educational technologies that are adequate to the challenges of today and can effectively solve the problems of training competitive specialists in the new information society. Among them, visualization is singled out, which improves the quality of perception, understanding and assimilation of educational material and serves as a powerful motivator of the students’ cognitive activity. The study is aimed at characterizing the potential of visualization as a technology for teaching Pedagogy students, which allows using the tools of the digital environment effectively to achieve educational goals. The main research method is the survey of 96 second-year bachelor-degree students of the subject area “Pedagogical Education” of the Faculty of Philology of the North-Eastern Federal University. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results of the research on visualization as educational technology has revealed the interest of future teachers in using visual teaching methods and understanding the role of visualization in enhancing the cognitive activity of students. The respondents have demonstrated, on the one hand, knowledge of the basic means of information visualization (88%). Yet, on the other hand, not all of the respondents (55%) can clearly and consciously differentiate the concepts of “online platform”, “social network” and “visual means of transmitting information” (“visual communication”).

Abstract. This article describes a modelling study on nitrogen transport from diffuse sources in the Nuthe catchment, representing a typical lowland region in the north-eastern Germany. Building on a hydrological validation performed in advance using the ecohydrological model SWIM, the nitrogen flows were simulated over a 20-year period (1981-2000). The relatively good quality of the input data, particularly for the years from 1993 to 2000, enabled the nitrogen flows to be reproduced sufficiently well, although modelling nutrient flows is always associated with a great deal of uncertainty. Subsequently, scenario calculations were carried out in order to investigate how nitrogen transport from the catchment could be further reduced. The selected scenario results with the greatest reduction of nitrogen washoff will briefly be presented in the paper.

Desertification is the gradual and sustained reduction in the quantity and quality of the biological productivity of arid and semi-arid land. <br><br> The study area is located in the North Eastern part of Algeria, it has a rich heritage in its biodiversity, however weather conditions and adverse human reality, induce a degradation of the physical environment in the form of a regression of vegetation cover. To assess desertification in our study area map of desertification sensitivity is a tool for decision support. <br><br> For the realization of this Map we used the ArcGis software applied a methodology which is inspired by the concept MEDALUS (Mediterranean Desertification and Land Use, 1999) by crossing four thematic layers that may have an impact on the process of desertification. <br><br> The results of Cartography and statistical analysis permit the classification of our region in terms of sensitivity to desertification in four very important classes. (Not affected, Insensitive, Sensitive and highly sensitive). <br><br> More than 69.92% of the surface area were classified sensitive to very sensitive, For against 30.07% is classified in unallocated insensitive. <br><br> Planning restoration work and the fight against desertification are expected to limit the risk of desertification in the study area perspectives.
