Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Malaysia reported that accident and fatality rate are anticipating to rise constantly over next few years. Physical, psychological and social hazards are the factors that cause occupational accidents and illness, subsequently jeopardised workers’ health and safety. There are extensive occupational health and safety studies conducted in various sectors, but it is less focused on the public sector, particularly public university. Therefore, this paper intends to examine the factors impact safety culture, which involve attitude and practice among public sector’s workers particularly in public university. The study employed quantitative approach specifically mail questionnaire were utilised as the main instrument to collect the information. The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 25. In anticipation to investigate association between physical, psychological and social hazards with safety culture, Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient was deployed. Besides that, to scrutinise relationship among variables, ordinal logistic regression analysis was performed. The study finds that only psychological hazards has significant correlation with attitude (?=.272). Further examination on the relationship between variables, the study discovers that only psychological factors have significant influence on practice (p=.002, OD=7.264). This study has exposed empirical relationship between physical hazards, psychological hazards and social hazards factors with safety culture. The university management must diligently address these factors as the exposure to these hazards can cause occupational diseases and work accidents.

Developing and encouraging a safety culture is an important factor to achieve a safe workplace with low injury rates. Safety climate can be an indicator of the status of an occupational health and safety management system in an organization. It can provide a snapshot of the safety culture. The Thai version of Nordic Occupational Safety Climate Questionnaire is used to evaluate the safety climate in the food manufacturing industry in Songkhla, Thailand. The results can also be used as a guideline in the development and safety management in the future. The response rate was great. The employees who participated were 14.7% male and 85.3% were female. Most subjects were 41-50 years-old and most had a 1- to 5-year working experience. The highest safety climate score of the workers was the dimension of “workers’ trust in the efficacy of safety systems” (3.29) while the lowest score was the dimension of “workers' safety priority and risk non-acceptance” (2.89). For the leaders, the highest safety climate score was the dimension of “workers’ safety commitment” (3.44) and the lowest score was the dimension of “management safety empowerment” (3.10). The factors related to accident occurrence were the differences in the organizations and the mean score of the safety climate dimension of “worker’s safety priority and risk non-acceptance”.

Any approach to occupational health must acknowledge that accidents in the workplace result in many injuries. Construction, agriculture, and primary extraction are the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries, but many more minor injuries result from all kinds of work. Health and safety law has developed with an emphasis on accident prevention that is based on designing and managing the working environment by (1) defining appropriate processes and work practices that are safe; (2) developing and maintaining a health and safety culture; and (3) influencing behaviour so that everyone is focused on the best and safest way to do their work....

Protection at work and work safety are the basic principles of the human right to work in a dignified way that guarantees protection of life and health at work. The scope of work of nurses/technicians includes diagnostic procedures, treatment and patient care. However, performance of these tasks can lead to health damage. Preventing and reducing injuries, occupational diseases, diseases related to the work as well as the preservation and improvement of health have a huge impact on reducing economic losses. Thus, a building of awareness is required so that the investment in occupational safety and health and safety at work will not be perceived as an unnecessary expense or a huge cost, but a long-term profitable investment. Additional costs and major expenses arise when the safety and health at work are not in proper focus. Employers and employees are the key factors, but the most important effort is to start raising awareness about the importance of protection and safety at work during the training for certain professions. Teachers play an important role in developing positive attitudes and understanding the importance of prevention of occupational accidents, occupational and related diseases. They greatly influence the maintenance of protection and safety from the earliest days to the end of service, including even the life expectancy of an individual person. If future young health care workers start with the acquisition of knowledge and skills of work safety at the beginning of their professional training, then safety and protection at work will become an integral part of the working process for them. They will develop a proper attitude toward the importance of occupational safety and health, which will guide them throughout their entire working life.

Abstract In order to investigate the precipitation chemistry, studies were carried out from January 2013 to December 2013 in Odorheiu Secuiesc and Miercurea Ciuc, Eastern Carpathians, Romania. During a period of eleven years (2006 – 2016), 2013 was the driest year. The rainwater samples were analyzed for pH, major anions and cations. HCO3− concentrations were calculated based on the empirical relationship between pH and HCO3−. NH4+, Ca2+, SO42− were the dominant ions in precipitation at both sites. The pH values varied from 6.75 to 7.46 Miercurea Ciuc, and from 6.69 to 7.67 in Odorheiu Secuiesc. The neutralization was mainly brought by Ca2+ and NH4+. Estimated ratios of sea-salt fraction (SSF), non-sea-salt fraction (NSSF), and results from Spearman’s rank correlation and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), showed that the acidic ions (SO42−, NO3−) were derived from anthropogenic activities, NH4+ from soil fertilization, while Ca2+, Mg2+, K+ originated from terrestrial source. These influence the precipitations ionic content, especially during droughts. Spatial variations and the rim effect of the Eastern Carpathians on precipitation chemistry is also shown.

Studies have shown that site sanitation practices are capable of improving the health and safety (H&S) performance of construction companies. In spite of this, evidence has shown that the level of compliance to these practices by construction firms is still poor. This study evaluated the effect of site sanitation on the safety performance of workers on construction sites. Data were obtained through a well-structured questionnaire. Analysis of data was done using Relative Importance Index (RII), Mean Item Score (MIS) and Spearman’s Rank Correlation. It was found that provision of first aid facilities is the measure most complied with on sites (RII = 0.96); relationship between level of compliance to good sanitation measures and accident rate is not significant; and provision of Personal Protective Equipment is the most effective strategy for minimising rate of accidents (MIS = 4.95). It was concluded that the effect of site sanitation on safety performance of workers on construction sites in Minna is not significant. It was thus recommended that construction firms should always comply with the measures for enhancing good sanitation on sites, especially “Provision of drinking water”, in order to improve safety performance on site. Key words: Construction, Safety, Sanitation, Performance, Workers.
