The most controversial trouble that happened in the construction projects is Delay. So, the specified research took part to investigate the basic causes in delaying the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The study gathered information from the insight of contractors, consultants, and owners. A wide literature review has been discussed. The delay causes are recognized built on the identified literature review. These features are characterized into owner-related, consultant-related, contractor-related, material-related, labour and equipment-related, and external-related groups. Twenty- six experienced persons participated in doing the questionnaire surveys to control the relative importance of every cause. The work discovered that the highest five reasons for postponement in building projects are financial difficulties by contractors, variation in prices, postponement in making and appreciative shop diagrams, lack of labour, and mistakes in soil study. Lastly, the probable approaches of dropping plan postponements are suggested. This work helps as a helpful tool for construction experts and academics to prevent reasons for postponement in constructing schemes in Kurdistan.

Water construction projects in Iran frequently face problems which cause cost overrun and time delay, the two most common issues in construction projects in general. The objective of this survey is to identify and quantify these problems and thus help in avoiding them. This survey represents a collection of the most significant problems found in the literature, classified into 11 groups according to their source. The questionnaire form used contains 84 questions which were answered by random engineers who work in water construction projects. The Relative Importance Weight (RIW) method is used to weight the importance of each one of the 84 problems. The focus of this survey is on overall top ten issues which are: bureaucracy in bidding method, inflation, economical condition of the government, not enough information gathered and surveys done before design, monthly payment difficulties, material cost changes, law changes by the government, financial difficulties, mode of financing and payment for completed work and changes made by the owner. A section for each of these issues provides additional information about them. In the full text of this survey the same weighting method is used to classify the main groups, and the results show that issues related to the groups of government, owner and consultant has the most significant impact. The last part of this survey describes the point of view of the engineers who took part in this survey and the recommendations they made.

Over the last few years, the green building movement in Singapore has leaped bountifully. While environmental sustainability for greener construction has been emphasized, rare research has been conducted to analyze performance of green construction projects. As a result, this study aims to address schedule performance of green building construction projects and to provide some recommendations that may improve the targeted performance. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire was developed and the responses from 30 companies were analysed, and interviews with 6 project managers were conducted to further supplement and substantiate the survey results. The analysis reported that green building projects required an average of 8% more time than traditional building projects of similar size and characteristics. In addition, on average, these projects were delayed by 4.8% when compared with their as-planned schedules. Lastly, a list of recommendations was also introduced, aiming to ameliorate the schedule performance. This study will offer a benchmark for the industry to gauge the overall duration and performance of green building construction projects.

Change orders are one of the main problems in construction projects. The objectives of this study are identification and evaluation of causes and effects of change orders as well as procedures of change orders control on building construction projects in Islamic Azad University (IAU) Shoushtar Branch in Iran. It is found that contractor's financial difficulties, previous construction delays by other contractors working on different contracts were important factors responsible for change orders in construction projects. However, there are five important factors that have been identified as having the greatest effects on change order. Finally, important methods in procedures of change orders control are recommended. Although, the research is restricted to IAU-Shoushtar Branch, the findings of construction management problems are common to other universities in their building construction projects.

Construction industry suffers numerous issues and complicated factors like price, period, quality and safety. It is said that Construction projects are versatile because they associate with contractors, architects, advisers, designers, the project owners, etc. Keeping in view of above factors, objective of this research is to highlight those factors which have impact on labor productivity in house building project. Through literature review as well as discussion with different consultants, several factors of productivity were identified. Out of which 20 factors were selected, which were later categorized into two sets, for analyzing in the current study. A comprehensive questionnaire was prepared and sent to project manager, engineers, designers, and builders. It was found, that total expense of construction comes to much higher as it was originally calculated. It is suggested that human resource should be developed through an effective and well planned training program, so that construction project do not suffer due to low performance. The mentioned factors are supposed to help in completed the construction projects effectively.

Safety non-performance has not only contributed to higher levels of injuries but also decreased total productivity in the building sector. Through improving standards of safety practices, the condition can be changed. This paper provides a framework for recognizing the most neglected safety practices that must be improved. The research was performed using a questionnaire survey of 33 safety practices. Data obtained through 210 questionnaires from respondents who were working on building projects in the Sindh Province were analyzed using statistical package for the social sciences. All safety practices have been prioritized based on their mean safety performance values. Statistics have shown that the average safety performance of the building industry is 60.596 per cent. Construction safety practices that need special attention are listed as; (a) People should work safely even when they are not being supervised (b) Safety training provided to the employees of subcontractors (c) Investigations carried out to identify the causes of accidents (d) Accidents are reported/recorded (e) throwing or dropping of material/equipment carelessly. The findings also have shown that the factor 'Accident reporting and investigation mechanism', has the lowest level of safety performance, accompanied by 'Workers' involvement', 'Safety training', 'Safety practices', 'Safety meetings. The findings of this report will provide building stakeholders with valuable knowledge for safe work practices.

Building Informatics is a body of knowledge that uses the ICT computer system, digital systems, building information modeling, and state-of-the-art software in solving technical and management issues in building and construction fields. One of the modern methods used in data forecasting and modeling is Artificial Neural Networks, considering its advantage over traditional regression method. A data sample was taken of 1500 residential building projects' completion costs. Regression analysis was carried out and model validated with functionality and Jackknife re-sampling technique. 150 Questionnaires were used to capture data on factors influencing application of heuristics protocol for decisions in residential building construction projects and data samples were analyzed using severity index, ranking, and simple percentages. Analysis of data brought up some factors that influence effective application of heuristic protocol in solving decision problems in construction decision process. The linearity analysis was carried out on the model and results indicated high level of tolerance and-0.0876 lowest variation prediction quotients to 0.9878 highest variation quotients. Also, 0.069 regression model fitness coefficient (R-square) was generated with 0.9878 highest variation quotients with standard error of 0.045. The results data attests to the stability of the model generated and the model is flexible in accommodating new data and variables, thus, allows for continuous updating.

Delay in the execution of construction projects is a major problem confronting the Nigerian construction industry. If unchecked, it will constitute a setback to the realisation of the infrastructure development component of the sustainable development agenda of the United Nations. This paper compared the causes of delay in public and private building projects in Lagos State, Nigeria with a view to enhancing project time performance. The study was conducted using a random sample of 87 Architectural firms and 88 contracting firms out of a population of 289 and 293, respectively in the study area. These represent 30% of the population of Architectural and contracting firms, in the study area. Data were retrieved from 47 Architectural and 48 contracting firms and analysed using mean score and student t-test. Results from the study indicated that delay in public building projects was mostly due to contractor’s financial difficulties with mean score (MS) of 2.84, rise in materials prices (MS = 2.80) and variations (MS = 2.72). On the other hand, client’s interference (MS = 2.92), rise in materials prices (MS = 2.83) and slow decision by clients (MS = 2.74) were the major causes of delay in private projects. T-test also revealed that the respondents were significantly different in opinion on 12 out of the 30 causes of delay in both project types in the study area.

In order to establish a gap to be filled in a particular field, there is a need to gather information that allows the researcher to identify and analyse the current state of researches on the topic. Contingency sum estimation for projects plays an important role for inclusion for risk taken by the contractor on the bid amount. This is good in order to meet project objectives (cost, time, quality, health and safety, and environment). The main function of contingency sum is to cater forvariations that arise during the construction phase of projects. The aim of the study is to identifying and examine the various methods for estimating contingency sum for projects with a view to propose an appropriate method which will be suitable for a specific project in order to increase accuracy and reduce cost overrun. A literature review of selected papers (journals, conference proceedings and theses) on contingency estimation was carried out. The major findings from this study is that most studies were carried out on building projects while few were carried out on highway projects. From the analysis carried out, no single method of estimating has been effective for all types of projects. These methods of estimating contingency sums have developed over the years as a result of shortcomings of one method after the other. It is therefore recommended that peculiarity of each project, ease of using each of the methods and accuracy of the estimates needed should be the basis of choosing method of estimating contingency sum.
