Achieving Clean India by 2016 is the aim of the present government. While 50 % of Indians continue to defecate in openKerala State had ensured 96 % of sanitation coverage, with only 19 gram panchayats remaining as a challenge to declare the state as Nirmal Rajya State. Vattavada, in Devikulam block of Idukki District is one among those Panchayats, where hardly only 15% of the households had access to sanitation. A special project was conceived by the Suchitwa Mission of Kerala State Government which was ably supported by the local panchayat and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute based at Kodaikanal to make the panchyat Open defecation. The advisory, implementation and funding support was given Government of India and Suchitwa Mission, Government of Kerala. The Technical support for toilet construction, demand creation and other need based IEC activities were carried out by WASH Institute. The district administration provided staff and monitoring support. The Suchitwa Mission also played a significant role in guiding, coordinating, supervising and helping in timely release of subsidy for the beneficiaries. The identification and selection of beneficiaries, execution and management of the project was done by Panchayat administration. The coordinated efforts of all these agencies resulted in 98 % sanitation coverage in the Panchayat and this case study captures the same.

This paper offers a commentary on what decentralisation has come to mean in India, based on recent research conducted in Kerala, one of the southern states. In particular, the paper discusses the tensions between ‘regionalism’ and ‘localism’. It begins with a brief outline of how decentralisation is conceived within the broad literature. This is followed by a case study, where the shifts in forms of decentralisation adopted by the Kerala state government are examined. The paper concludes with key findings that underpin an understanding of decentralisation within the Indian context.

ABSTRACTThis article discusses changing obligations toward objects from an archaeological site held by the Queensland Museum, through a long-term, 40-year case study. Between 1971 and 1972 a selection of 92 stone blocks weighing up to 5 tons containing Aboriginal engravings were cut out of the site and distributed to multiple locations across Queensland by the State Government under the provisions of the then Aboriginal Relics Preservation Act 1967. The site was subsequently flooded following dam construction and the removed blocks became part of the Queensland Museum’s collection. This article chronicles the history of the site and its “salvage,” the consequences of fragmentation of the site for community and institutions, the creation of 92 museum objects, the transformation from immobile to mobile cultural heritage, and community-led requests for their repatriation back to country.

Purpose of the study: This empirical study aims to identify the perceptions of pilgrim tourists’ regarding their accommodation and transport facilities in the Golden Temple, Vellore city, Tamil Nadu, India. Methodology: This study used both primary and secondary data for data collection among pilgrim tourists. Data were later on analyzed using SPSS statistical tools like percentage, Chi-square, ANOVA using Statistical Package for Social Sciences were applied. Results: The findings of the study indicate that the income of the family doesn’t relate to accommodation facilities and the age of the respondents was affected by the transport facilities in Vellore City. Applications of this study: The study brings to highlights the basics of accommodation and transportation and the factors affecting the perception of pilgrim’s tourists. It concludes that the age of the respondents affects the transport facilities in Vellore City. The transportation facilities should be improved for the tourists to attract and improve pilgrim tourism. Novelty/Originality of this study: The study has found that the tourists had sufficient maturity, education and good exposure about their destination. The study found that accommodation facilities such as comfort, peace, safety and security, attitude and behavior of staff, and sanitation and hygiene are not more satisfied. Transport facilities such as Signboard, street lights, traffic rules have to be improved.

One of the factors that can affect a person's behavior is a communication message. In the context of the da`wah, preachers who involved actively in da`wah communication with the Orang Asli should be able to ensure that the message conveyed can be understood by the target group. In addition, the selection of the correct messages of da`wah based on the foremost priority simplify the process of sharing information between the preachers and the Orang Asli. Accordingly, this article aims to identify specific topics of Islamic faith (akidah) submitted by the Orang Asli in the process of da`wah communication and to identify verbal feedback given by the preachers to the Orang Asli of the topics. This qualitative study using case study design and data was collected through semi-structured interviews. Interviews involving nine preachers were active in da`wah activity to the Orang Asli community in Selangor. Data were analyzed thematically according to the specified objectives. The study found that the topics frequently raised by the Orang Asli is concerned about belief in Allah, belief in Malaikat, and belief in Qada' and Qadar. The topics may be found within the framework of worldview in their beliefs and practice of ancient traditions. Therefore, the preachers gave verbal feedback on these topics is based on a clear and precise sample corresponding to the level of their thinking. The emphasis on these topics is very important to strengthen and purify the faith of the community.Keywords: Communication; Message; Preacher; Indigenous community Abstrak: Elemen mesej dalam komunikasi merupakan salah satu faktor yang dapat memberi kesan terhadap perubahan tingkah laku seseorang. Dalam konteks dakwah, pendakwah yang terlibat dalam proses komunikasi dakwah dengan Orang Asli seharusnya berkebolehan memastikan kandungan mesej yang disampaikan boleh difahami oleh sasaran dakwahnya. Di samping itu, pemilihan mesej dakwah yang betul mengikut keutamaan memudahkan proses perkongsian maklumat antara pendakwah dengan Orang Asli. Sehubungan dengan itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti topik-topik tertentu dalam mesej akidah yang dikemukakan oleh masyarakat Orang Asli kepada pendakwah dan mengenalpasti maklum balas lisan yang diberikan oleh pendakwah kepada Orang Asli terhadap topik tersebut. Kajian kualitatif ini menggunakan reka bentuk kajian kes dengan pengumpulan data melalui temu bual separa struktur. Temu bual melibatkan sembilan orang pendakwah yang aktif dalam aktiviti dakwah masyarakat Orang Asli di Selangor. Data kajian dianalisis secara tematik mengikut objektif yang ditentukan. Kajian ini mendapati bahawa topik-topik yang sering dikemukan oleh Orang Asli kepada pendakwah dalam penyampaian mesej akidah ialah berkenaan tentang keimanan kepada Allah SWT, keimanan kepada malaikat, dan keimanan kepada qada’ dan qadar. Topik-topik berkenaan didapati berada dalam kerangka worldview kepercayaan dan amalan tradisi mereka. Sehubungan dengan itu, pendakwah memberikan maklum balas lisan terhadap topik-topik tersebut adalah berdasarkan keterangan yang jelas dan contoh yang tepat bersesuaian dengan tahap pemikiran mereka. Penekanan terhadap topik-topik tersebut merupakan perkara yang penting dalam rangka mengukuhkan dan memurnikan akidah masyarakat Orang Asli.Kata kunci: Komunikasi; Mesej; Pendakwah; Komuniti Orang Asli

Fracking has helped to usher in an era of energy abundance in the United States. This advanced drilling procedure has helped the nation to attain the status of the largest producer of crude oil and natural gas in the world, but some of its negative externalities, such as human-induced seismicity, can no longer be ignored. The occurrence of earthquakes in communities located at proximity to disposal wells with no prior history of seismicity has shocked residents and have caused damages to properties. It has evoked individuals’ resentment against the practice of injection of fracking’s wastewater under pressure into underground disposal wells. Though the oil and gas companies have denied the existence of a link between such a practice and earthquakes and the local and state governments have delayed their responses to the unforeseen seismic events, the issue has gained in prominence among researchers, affected community residents, and the media. This case study has offered a glimpse into the varied responses of stakeholders to human-induced seismicity in a small city in the state of Texas. It is evident from this case study that although individuals’ complaints and protests from a small community may not be successful in bringing about statewide changes in regulatory policies on disposal of fracking’s wastewater, they can add to the public pressure on the state government to do something to address the problem in a state that supports fracking.

Resumo: O litoral cearense do Nordeste brasileiro já registra várias experiências exitosas de turismo comunitário. Porém, o governo do estado continua preterindo esse potencial e subsidiando a instalação de megaempreendimentos que geram poucos empregos com baixas remunerações. Assim, as comunidades litorâneas que protagonizam o turismo comunitário ficam duplamente penalizadas, pois são deixadas à margem das políticas de turismo e seus territórios viram alvos da cobiça de visitantes atraídos pelo marketing dos investimentos públicos realizados. Tomando como estudo de caso a comunidade de Tatajuba, no município de Camocim, no Ceará, este artigo analisa a luta dos povos do mar pelo território, luta essa que não se traduz apenas na defesa do espaço de vivência, mas também na formação de uma rede de territórios solidários articulados ao mundo, que resiste/inova com a proposta do turismo comunitário.  Palavras-chave: Turismo. However, the state government is still neglecting this potential and subsidizing the installation of mega-enterprises that generate few jobs with low pay. Thus, the coastal communities who star the community tourism are doubly penalized because they are abandoned by tourism policies and their territories become targets of greed of visitors attracted by the marketing of public investments. Taking as a case study the community of Tatajuba, in Camocim (municipality, Ceará, Brazil), this article examines the struggle of the peoples of the sea through the territory. Por lo tanto, las comunidades costeras que ofrecen el turismo comunitario son doblemente penalizadas porque quedan excluidas de las políticas de turismo y sus territorios se convierten en objeto de la codicia de los visitantes atraídos por la comercialización de las inversiones públicas. The paper responds to research problems related to the implementation of large-scale investment projects in waterways in Europe. As part of design and construction works, it is necessary to indicate river ports that play a major role within the European transport network as intermodal nodes. This entails a number of challenges, the cardinal one being the optimal selection of port locations, taking into account the new transport, economic, and geopolitical situation that will be brought about by modernized waterways. The aim of the paper was to present an original methodology for determining port locations for modernized waterways based on non-cost criteria, as an extended multicriteria decision-making method (MCDM) and employing GIS (Geographic Information System)-based tools for spatial analysis. The methodology was designed to be applicable to the varying conditions of a river’s hydroengineering structures (free-flowing river, canalized river, and canals) and adjustable to the requirements posed by intermodal supply chains. The method was applied to study the Odra River Waterway, which allowed the formulation of recommendations regarding the application of the method in the case of different river sections at every stage of the research process.
