The purpose of this study was to improve the approach of environmental education in a secondary school in Pinar del Río, Cuba. This material was created using a) literature on the theoretical−empirical background of environmental education focused on Zoology and b) a study of student perceptions of the environment using surveys and interviews. Deficiencies noted in the literature and student knowledge guided the design of a multimedia program to teach Zoology to high school students with a focus on an integrated environmental approach. The proposed program includes specialized videos and texts about both global and local fauna. The videos and activities were designed to familiarize students with the fauna and the measures that they should take to protect and help preserve the life of animals and their environments.

Adolescent literacy has emerged via the high-stakesstandardized test known as the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)as a critical area of debate and study. Research has indicated a directconnection between literacy and identity, and that student literacy practicesdiffer from traditional measures of literacy located in school curriculum andevaluated via standardized tests such as the OSSLT. Outcomes such as limitedachievement, difficulties with literacy and the development of literacy skills, and subsequent below standard scorescan diminish student self-concept, lower self-esteem, and impede self-efficacy.This ethnographic case study illuminated the impact of OSSLT and subsequentmandatory enrolment in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course usingsemi-structured interviews involving high-school students from a northernOntario secondary school. Previous related research outcomes, whichdemonstrated a connection between standardized test scores and self-concept,were realized via participants’ understanding and perception of literacy, andthrough mitigating factors impacting literacy engagement and achievement.

Mathematical reasoning uses a logical mindset in analyzing a problem that will eventually be marked by concluding activity on the problem. Someone who has good reason, will certainly be careful in acting and deciding something. The material content on the calculus is the material that exists at the secondary school level which will become the field of teaching the prospective master of math teacher bachelor. The reasoning ability studied influences student learning in the future as it applies to advanced courses, for example in the ability of proof will always be used in the course of differential equations, algebraic structure, vector analysis, real analysis, etc. While as a teacher candidate who will teach at the secondary school level, then this reasoning ability becomes one of the achievements of mathematics learning for high school students, therefore teachers who teach it must have good reasoning ability. Error analysis is very important to evaluate and reflect on the problem structure as well as on the treatment in learning in order to improve the reasoning ability.

The present study was conducted to ascertain the environmental awareness across gender, locale, type of schools and academic stream among senior secondary school students. The sample of the study comprised of 300 11th class students studying in different government and non- government senior secondary schools of Sambhal district (U.P.) of Moradabad region. Environment Awareness Ability Measure (EAAM) by Praveen Kumar Jha (1998) was used to collect the data for the purpose. The data were analyzed using descriptive (Mean, Standard Deviations) and inferential (‘t’- test) statistics. The findings of the present study revealed that there is significant difference in environmental awareness of senior secondary school students across gender (boys and girls), type of schools (government and non-government) and academic stream (science and arts). However no significant difference is found in case of rural and urban sample. The reason for this result may be the rampant illiteracy in the district. Stakeholders should, therefore, ensure that the curriculum relating to environmental education is transacted as a core curriculum. Other activities related to environmental education viz., curricular, co- curricular and literary activities should also be organized to infuse environmental awareness among students.

Abstract Introduction Within the current context in our Mexico, major states of violence for women have been manifested on a daily basis without having any more reason than being female. Veracruz is the first place in feminicides in Mexico with a rate of 3.44 per 100 thousand women. Research question: What is the intensity of the violence committed and victimization in the courtship of young students of the Upper Middle level in the Veracruz - Boca del Río area, according to their gender? Material and Methods A cross-sectional, prospective, observational and analytical study was carried out from December to February 2020. Middle-high school students from the Veracruz-Boca del Río region were included, who had a dating relationship and were excluded those who did not accept to participate. The variable “violence committed and victimization in courtship” was quantified with the CADRI instrument. The spss v22 software was used, Sudent's T was calculated for independent samples, with statistical significance p < 0.05. Results 741 students were included. There was a prevalence of violence committed of 86.2% and victimization of 89.2%. Of the total number of students who suffered and committed violence, women occupy 66.3% and 66.7% respectively. There is a difference in the intensity of violence between women and men in verbal-emotional violence (4.5 ± 4.2 vs. 3.4 ± 3.4), physical violence (0.6 ± 1.3 vs. 0.36 ± 3.6) and violence in general (5.7 ± 5.7 vs 4.3 ± 4.8) (p < 0.05), while victimization scores do not make a difference between both genders (p > 0.05). The history of psychological and sexual violence in previous relationships, as well as sexual violence in daily life are more frequent in the female sex (p < 0.05) Conclusions The violence generated is more intense in women, however, they also have a history of having suffered violence more frequently in previous relationships and in their daily lives. Key messages Women suffer more aggressions at different stages of their lives, which may increase the risk to tolerate aggressions or be more aggressive or suffer mental health problems. We must study if the violence generated by women is a response to a previous aggression from their boyfriend.

This research reports the results of an initial study in which the instrument Student Perceptions of Classroom Quality was developed and then administered to a sample of students to allow examination of validity and reliability evidence. Accordingly, exploratory factor analysis was used to examine the construct validity of the scores, and internal consistency alpha reliability estimates were calculated for the 4 factors that were derived from the data. Student Perceptions of Classroom Quality, assesses how high school students perceive their class activities concerning meaning-fulness, challenge, choice, and appeal—constructs clearly tied in the literature to motivation and learning and with their roots of practice found in gifted education programming. Validity and reliability evidence from this pilot study were sufficiently strong, and, thus, this line of research will be continued using a larger national sample in a confirmatory study of the revised version of the instrument that resulted from the present research. Ultimately, this instrument has potential value for those engaged in research or school improvement efforts in both general education and gifted education by providing them a means to assess constructs central to learning and classroom climate from the students’ points of view.

Most teenagers are chronically sleep deprived. One strategy proposed to lengthen adolescent sleep is to delay secondary school start times. This would allow students to wake up later without shifting their bedtime, which is biologically determined by the circadian clock, resulting in a net increase in sleep. So far, there is no objective quantitative data showing that a single intervention such as delaying the school start time significantly increases daily sleep. The Seattle School District delayed the secondary school start time by nearly an hour. We carried out a pre-/post-research study and show that there was an increase in the daily median sleep duration of 34 min, associated with a 4.5% increase in the median grades of the students and an improvement in attendance.

Abstract As changes in coastal and marine environments are expected to negatively affect Brazilian ecosystems, the importance of Marine Environmental Education (MEE) comes to the fore. However, so far only 32 contributions related to this issue have been published in Brazil. The MEE workgroup of ReBentos aims at promoting EE and the communication of marine ecological research to the scholastic public as a whole, as well as to groups which exert an influence on general perception, such as the media, politicians, and scientists. This paper presents an overview of the initiatives of MEE in Brazil, with emphasis on the ReBentos projects and guidelines. The conceptual background of action is based on the Rio'92 Treaty on Environmental Education, thereby implying an MEE with Transdisciplinar, emancipatory and reflexive characteristics, directed to changes in values, principles and attitudes. During the period 2011 to 2015, 10 projects were developed from Alagoas to Santa Catarina States, involving the development, implementation and testing through scientific research of 16 MEE activity-models. The didactic material subsequently produced comprised three books and 21 book-chapters. A public of around 6,500 Conservation Unit visitors, 250 public school teachers and 800 high school students have been impacted to date. To act as monitors and multipliers, 250 undergraduate students and professionals were trained. Research project evaluation generated the publication of nine papers. As a further step, the need for protocol elaboration for each model is placed in evidence, in order to direct and facilitate future initiatives.

Today, in light of the tremendous technological development, media has become a requirement of modern life, as it is considered a means of learning about other sciences and cultures. For this, it has become necessary to educate young people in secondary school as an intermediate stage, to study media in all its branches, by including it within the teaching curricula, provided that the scientific components, specialized cadres and necessary equipment are available and to proceed with all that, according to an accurate and organized approach, especially since major countries such as Britain And an Arab like Saudi Arabia has preceded us, albeit in a limited way. This expected step deters young people from media illiteracy, broadens their perceptions at this school stage, helps them to creativity, visualization, extrapolation, and criticism, as well as pushes them to understand what is going on around them in terms of events and facts in various fields, and helps them to shorten their scientific career, by reaching the best The paths of comprehension, understanding, and creativity.

This research aims at exposing the impact of the variability of presentation ways of visual stimuli and their associated sign-language explanation(visual stimuli without sign-language explanation/ visual stimuli followed by sign-language explanation/ visual stimuli simultaneous with the presentation of sign-language explanation) in educational computer programs on academic achievement of some English words among high school students (deaf group) in the integration program At Ain Jaloot Secondary School and the integration program in Dumah Al Jandal Secondary School. The study population included students of the integration program of the two schools, the sample size was determined and it included (36) deaf students who were randomly distributed into three pilot groups. The prior assessment was applied by using the electronic achievement test prepared by the Quiz Creator application, its reliability and validity were then confirmed by checking the coherence of the three groups. The three pilot groups enrolled for an educational computer program, in which the first group studied the impact of the variability of visual stimuli without sign-language explanation, the second group studied the visual stimuli followed by sign-language explanation, then the third group studied the visual stimuli simultaneous with the presentation of sign-language explanation the groups and each group of the three groups included a sample of 12 deaf students. The results of the study showed: Presence of differences which are statically significant (P value= 0.05) between the average degrees of the three groups in favor of the second group who studied the visual stimuli followed by a sign-language explanation.
