Purpose: The present study aims to give a short introduction into the possibilities offered by Voyant Tools to quantitatively explore qualitative data on the Sales-Marketing Interface (SMI).Design/methodology/approach: The study is exploratory in nature. The sample consists of sales and marketing employees of six manufacturing companies. Answers to three open-ended questions were analysed quantitatively and visualised in various ways using the online toolset of Voyant Tools. We experimented with four different tools out of the twenty four offered by Voyant Tools. These tools were: Cyrrus tool, Correlation tool, Topics tool and Scatter plot tool. All four tools that were tested on the data have scalable parameters. Various settings were tested to demonstrate how input conditions influence modelling of the textual data.Findings: It was demonstrated that the four selected text analysis tools can yield valuable information depicted in the form of attractive visualisation formats. It is also highlighted how rushed conclusions can be arrived at by falsely interpreting the visualised data. It is shown how setting different input parameters can affect results. Out of the four examined tools the Scatter plot tool offering an analysis and modelling method based on t-SNE (t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbour Embedding) proved to yield the most complex information about the text. Research limitations/implications: As the study aimed to be exploratory a sample of convenience was used to collect qualitative data. Although quantitative methods can be invaluable tools of preliminary analysis and hypothesis adjustment in the processing of qualitative data, their results should always be checked against the traditional content analysis techniques which are more sensitive to the complex structure of semantic units. These quantitative techniques are to help early exploration of textual data.Practical implications: Managerial implications might be connected to the fact that in a fast changing global business environment managers and corporate decision makers in general might find the attractive visualisation outputs of Voyant Tool easy to analyse and interprete various aspects of business. As Voyant Tools is an open source, free online sofware not even requiring regsitration  and at the same time has an impressive array of sophisticated statistical tools, it might be a cost-effective way of analysing qualitative data. Originality/value: As there is virtually no earlier literature on how quantitative data visualisation techniques can be used in marketing research, especially in the analysis of the SMI, utilisation possibilities of Voyant Tools and other quantitative data analysis and visualisation software for handling qualitative data is definitely a worthwhile area for further research.

Today, Supply Chain Management (SCM) is regarded as an essential strategic factor, which has a great deal of influence on earning competitiveness in global business environment. There are conflicts among all members of the SCM. In order to maximize the total profit of the SCM, negotiation among all members is necessary. For enterprise in the supply chain, the supply chain partnership has become a significant factor affecting firm performance. In this paper, I examine the impact of cooperation between enterprise and its supply chain partners. Specifically, I collect survey data from Chinese manufacturing firms about their relations with partners and use regression analysis to test hypotheses about the associations between firm performance and supply chain partnership. My results support that superior supplier partnership has a positive impact on reducing transaction costs and improving financial and market performance. In additional test, I establish a series of models with interactive terms. The results of additional test indicate that the impact is enhanced if the competition of each sub industry of the manufacturing industry is different. Above all, I put forward the following suggestions. Enterprise managers could establish an evaluation mechanism of suppliers and retailers, which select high-quality cooperative partners and reduce low-quality transaction costs for enterprises. When participating in business operation, shareholders could comprehensively understand the business conditions of various supply partners and choose reliable supply chain partners for investment. Also, the government can guide the realization of resource sharing and information exchange among supply chain enterprises, which is beneficial to create a more competitive supply chain to promote economic development.

This article aims to examine the role of leadership after a change in the business environment of a company, such as a Merger and Acquisition, in high tech manufacturing companies. Particularly as the number of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) continues to increase and during recession times is one of the most common strategy, more leaders are called upon to to develop their skills an play the most important role for the company strategy. For this purpose both qualitative and quantitative methods are used to examine the effect of leadership after a Merger and Acquisition in some Greek companies that operate in manufacturing business. Findings indicate that in many cases the change that occurs as a result of a merger is imposed on the leaders who have the critical role not only to communicate effectively the company strategy but also to find the correct ways to apply the requested performance management strategies, such as recognition, innovation and others in the new company employees.

Purpose The aim of this research was to study collaborative practices with suppliers in multinational manufacturing companies operating in India and to develop a framework for collaboration with suppliers. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted a four-step mixed-methods approach that included qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative technique was used to explore the factors and develop a balanced scorecard-based (BSC – balanced scorecard) framework using them. Quantitative technique was used to validate the framework statistically and also by using fuzzy analytical hierarchy process using perception-based ranks given by practitioners. Findings The exploratory research resulted in 26 antecedents for collaboration with suppliers in supply chains. Out of these 26, only 19 were considered based on importance given by practitioners. Further, the identified antecedents were classified and mapped based on the perspectives of the BSC. The extended BSC adds business environment and partnership perspectives to existing BSC framework. Some of the important factors identified under these perspectives were transparency of transactions, long-term commitment and trust. The customer perspective was given the utmost importance by the practitioners. Research limitations/implications There are certain issues that may limit the completeness of the work in a global context. The number of organizations (21) and respondents (45) may also be insufficient to convey the complete knowledge embedded in the practice of the field. Originality/value The study provides practical insights about the factors affecting collaboration with suppliers. A BSC-based framework for collaboration with suppliers was also developed along with the associated importance of each perspective and factors under each perspective, which can prove to be of great value to academics and practitioners involved in relationship with suppliers in supply chain.

The issues of public service sector development have remained current since the sector was overhauled and reformed in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. The authors identify the following reasons for problems in the public service sector: a failure to force public service providers from the semishade sector and to provide opportunities for cost-effective operations in the newly created market. Currently, the major problems in the sphere of public service provision are largely connected with quality characteristics. Public service shapes the service space in modern urban areas, and provides adequate living conditions, which is a key criterion for quality-of-life evaluation. The authors’ working hypothesis focuses on developing a new format of public service companies’ development on the basis of complexity/integrity and maximal accessibility. The format is seen by the authors as suitable for a network of mini public amenities centers located in functionally diverse urban zones. The authors’ conclusions rest on the results of the authors’ marketing research into the status and development prospects of the public service sector in Mytishchi, Moscow Region. The essence of the concept proposed by the author is the different lines of mini public amenities center development: creating a business environment, priority-based resource allocation, cooperation in information support activities, as well as implementation mechanisms.

This research aimed to determine the local wisdom of the community of Lembah Seulawah Sub-district, Aceh Besar, Indonesia of controlling insect pests in vegetable plants. In addition, the study intended to examine the impact of using paper as a mechanical trap for insect pests in vegetable plants. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in this research. The qualitative data were obtained through interviews with farmers, whereas the quantitative data were collected from an experiment. Thirty randomly-selected respondents were interviewed and then the qualitative and quantitative data processing was performed. The results showed that they still use plant-based materials as insecticides which constitute the local wisdom of controlling insect pests in vegetable plants. The plants used as insecticides were, among others, garlic (Allium satifum), castor bean seeds (Ricinus communis), lemongrass, neem seeds, and thorny amaranth as the trap plants.

This study aims to determine the dominant factors in potential mountaineering tourism and analyze potential strategies in terms of SWOT. This research was using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The strategy was analyzed using Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) methods on indicators of natural tourist attraction in the form of land, accessibility, management and service, climate, facilities / infrastructure, availability of clean water, security, and marketing. Quantitative data was collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale, while qualitative data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Respondents for quantitative data were 100 tourists, and those for qualitative data were 21 informants consisting of technical field managers, communities, community climbers, and traveler. The results of the study showed an analysis of the potential of mountain climbing tourism in Mount Gede Pangrango National Park is quite potential and development strategy is needed. The findings in this study show SWOT matrix analysis of policy strategies for potential mountain climbing tourism in Mount Gede Pangrango National Park has the power and opportunity to develop more Progressive Strategy by making Mount Gede Pangrango National Park excellent mountain climbing tourism with its natural beauty and uniqueness.

Manufacturing companies outsource their manufacturing process to achieve organizational performance. Companies can focus on improving their core business processes while leaving manufacturing process to companies that are more efficient and cost-effective. However, this leaves manufacturing companies with a dilemma as those outsourcing companies are also producing for competitors and companies’ brand is liable to the integrity of outsourcing companies. By having integrity capabilities, it is argued that companies can achieve organizational performance. This paper investigates the relationship between manufacturing outsourcing and organizational performance with the mediating effect of manufacturing integrity capabilities. This paper contributes to the body of literature by investigating the impact of manufacturing integrity capabilities with resource-based view and transaction cost economics theories. Furthermore, this paper also is practically useful for companies to understand integrity capabilities that are useful to increase organizational performance in the era of the dynamic business environment.

The existence of large wallow which is an ex-mining of andesite stone that is not manage properly became the focus of this study. The objective of this study was to analyse the potential of geo-tourism object at the land of ex-andesite stone mining (Setu Jayamix), as well as to find out the feasibility value of geo-tourism object at the lake of ex-andesite stone mining (Setu Jayamix). Mix methods, which is a combination of  qualitative  and quantitative  methods with the research design of  sequential exploratory was used in this study. Sequential exploratory design is a research model where the qualitative data is collected and analyzed, then followed by the collection and analysis of quantitative data, which aims to strengthen the results of the study. The results showed that the potentials of geo-tourism in ex-andesite stone mining area i.e. lake waters, the uniqueness of andesitic stone outcrops, and the view of landscape that overgrown by various plantation  crops. Based on the results of the feasibility analyses of geo-tourism, then obtained a feasible value for the geological criteria of physical components (score = 26.334), sustainable for the economic components (score = 20.114), sustainable for the conservation components (score = 10.971), and educative (score = 8.518). Meanwhile, for the accessibility component is declared to be less feasible (score = 61.446).Keberadaan  kubangan besar yang merupakan area bekas penambangan  batu andesit yang tidak terkelola secara maksimal menjadi fokus penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan  untuk mengkaji potensi obyek geowisata  pada lahan di kawasan  bekas tambang  batu andesit (Setu Jayamix), serta mengetahui nilai kelayakan obyek geowisata di kawasan danau bekas tambang batu andesit tersebut (Setu Jayamix).  Metode kombinasi (mix methods), yaitu  gabungan  antara  metode kualitatif  dan  kuantitatif   dengan  model penelitian sequential exploratory design digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Sequential exploratory design merupakan model penelitian dimana data kualitatif  dikumpulkan dan dianalisis, kemudian diikuti dengan pengumpulan dan analisis terhadap data kuantitatif, yang tujuannya untuk memperkuat hasil penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa potensi-potensi geowisata  yang terdapat di kawasan lahan bekas tambang  batu  andesit (Setu Jayamix)  adalah  perairan  setu, keunikan singkapan  batu  andesit,  serta pemandangan  lanskap kawasan yang ditumbuhi berbagai tanaman perkebunan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis kelayakan geowisata,  maka diperoleh nilai layak untuk kriteria geologis komponen fisik (skor = 26,334), berkelanjutan untuk komponen ekonomi (skor = 20,114), berkelanjutan untuk komponen konservasi (skor = 10,971), serta edukatif  (dengan skor = 8,518). Sedangkan untuk komponen aksesibilitas dinyatakan kurang layak (skor = 61,446).

Manufacturing processes are usually imbedded in cross-company value and supply chains. Most manufacturing companies are currently encountering the obligation to react on their rapidly changing network environments. For companies, which are willing to remain competitive and to keep their position in the global business environment, continuous improvement and innovation of production system processes has become a necessity. Lean manufacturing and lean thinking represent meanwhile traditional frameworks for improving the performance for production systems in various industries. But not all production companies succeed with their implementation efforts towards lean manufacturing and performance improvements due to failures in organisational topics, especially at the interfaces within supply chains. Lean start-up theory and its methodologies represent success factors for organisational development paving the way to intrapreneurial and innovation concepts in a lean management influenced by lean thinking. Modern manufacturing concepts which are embracing networked enterprises are emphasising approaches for production in networks. The article investigates the innovation shortcoming in the lean manufacturing framework; organisational development in the context of intrapreneurship in a case study of a modular manufacturing company which is based on a smart and lean production concept. The research is empirically validated by using data samples from a business reengineering project in an internationally operating high-tech manufacturing enterprise from Estonia. The empiric analysis is based on semi-structured expert interview data and secondary data revealing the synergies between lean practice bundles and networked production enterprises in the context of intrapreneurship.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between peer assessment and instructor assessment and make a comparison with views of preservice teachers. Since qualitative and quantitative methods were used together in the study, it was grounded on the mixed method approach. The quantitative data in this study, in which 27 preservice teachers participated on a voluntary basis, were obtained from scoring rubric whereas qualitative data were obtained from a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers. Statistical analyses were conducted to analyze the quantitative data collected within the scope of the study, whereas Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between instructor assessment and peer assessment, and paired samples t test was used to determine the differences between pairwise groups. The qualitative data, on the other hand, were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that there was a positive and significant correlation between instructor assessment and peer assessment. When the preservice teachers’ views were examined, those views rose to prominence stating that making assessments contributed to learning; they grew aware of imperfect knowledge; questioning and critical thinking improved, and fair assessment skills developed. This was interpreted to mean that preservice teachers could distinguish between adequate and inadequate work. However, when the preservice teachers’ views concerning their assessments by their peers were examined, the view attracted attention stating that friendship relations and personal problems affected assessment negatively and therefore peers gave low scores. At this point, when the mean scores were examined, it was seen that mean peer scores were higher than instructor mean scores. This was interpreted to mean that some preservice teachers did not have confidence in their peers.
