In the information age, the proliferation of online education platforms is accompanied by various problems. This paper aims to solve the problems of online education platforms, making them more useful and adaptable. Targeting at a key online education platform (SmartStudy) in China, the authors conducted a questionnaire survey among users on their utilization and perception of online education platforms. Based on the survey data, the current state of the platform was summarized, followed by an analysis on the degree of impact from each factor on the selection between platforms. Next, the platform development and user satisfaction were discussed in the light of platform security, credit rating and user experience. Finally, several suggestions were put forward to improve the online education platform. The research results are of great importance to the development of online education in China.

The outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in various countries at the end of last year has transferred traditional face-to-face teaching to online education platforms, which directly affects the quality of education. Taking user satisfaction on online education platforms in China as the research object, this paper uses a questionnaire survey and web crawler to collect experience data of online and offline users, constructs a customer satisfaction index system by analyzing emotion and the existing literature for quantitative analysis, and builds aback propagation (BP) neural network model to forecast user satisfaction. The conclusion shows that users’ personal factors have no direct influence on user satisfaction, while platform availability has the greatest influence on user satisfaction. Finally, suggestions on improving the online education platform are given to escalate the level of online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, so as to promote the reform of information-based education.

With the proliferation of the fifth generation (5G) communication technology, another boom of online education will come, and reshape our traditional learning model. Inspired by the literature on online education platform, this paper establishes a model for the factors affecting the acceptance of online education platform among college students based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), and put forward several hypotheses on the influence of multiple factors over the acceptance. Then, a scientific questionnaire was designed and distributed online to college students. The survey data were subject to descriptive analysis and correlation analysis. The results show that college students have considered online education platforms an important learning tool; the acceptance of online education platform among college students is positively affected by such factors as personal value, course satisfaction, teacher quality, social influence, and self-efficacy. The research results provide a good reference for the development of online education in China.

The chapter will explore some aspects of online education such as digital skills, digital competences, and innovations in education, which the COVID-19 pandemic put into the foreground of the processes of learning and education at universities. The ability to apply digital skills and develop them into digital competencies is a basic prerequisite for learners and educators. The author analyses and evaluates the current state and challenges posed by online education, especially at colleges and universities. The concepts and terminology in the field of education in cyberspace, models of digital competencies of educators, scientific and educational policy documents defining the requirements for university teachers in online education were considered. The investigation was supported by the results of a questionnaire survey. The author points out the possibilities and ultimate requirements of online education at universities in terms of students, teachers, innovations, evaluation, advantages, and barriers in online education.

Through a questionnaire survey, this study explored the factors affecting student participation in peer-assisted English learning (PAEL) based on online education platforms. Specifically, the authors constructed the system of PAEL contents, analyzed the online PAEL behaviors of students, and evaluated the student participation in online PAEL from both surface participation and deep participation. On this basis, the influencing factors of student participation in online PAEL were evaluated thoroughly. In the end, several countermeasures were presented to solve the problems with student participation in online PAEL. The results show that: the online PAEL face such problems like low-level knowledge structure and poor interaction quality, weak intensity of interaction, and inactive atmosphere of collaboration; In general, the students are not actively participating in online PAEL; the student participation in online PAEL is greatly affected by teachers, students, teaching contents, and online education platforms; the low participation in online PAEL mainly arises from the weak motives of students for online PAEL, the inadequate teaching design and supervision of teachers, and the imperfect functions of online education platform. The research enriches the theoretical and practical results on the factors affecting student participation in online PAEL.

Touch-screen GUIs have become a key feature of modern consumer electronics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect that reducing the number of icons on the GUI of a popular soda machine has on drink selection time and user satisfaction. Twenty subjects participated in the study, with 10 assigned to the control and experimental groups respectively. Time to make a drink selection was recorded and compared between groups using unpaired t-test. User satisfaction was measured using a five-point scale questionnaire. The results suggested that user satisfaction, except for the display dependability category, is not affected by the reduction of the number of icons on the soda machine GUI and no change was observed in drink selection time.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic posed a huge challenge to the education systems worldwide, forcing many countries to provisionally close educational institutions and deliver courses fully online. The aim of this study was to explore the quality of the online education in China for international medical and nursing students from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as well as the factors that influenced their satisfaction with online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Questionnaires were developed and administered to 316 international medical and nursing students and 120 teachers at a university in China. The Chi-square test was used to detect the influence of participants’ personal characteristics on their satisfaction with online education. The Kruskal–Wallis rank-sum test was employed to identify the negative and positive factors influencing the online education satisfaction. A binary logistic regression model was performed for multiple-factor analysis to determine the association of the different categories of influential factors—crisis-, learner-, instructor-, and course-related categories, with the online education satisfaction. Results Overall, 230 students (response rate 72.8%) and 95 teachers (response rate 79.2%) completed the survey. It was found that 36.5% of students and 61.1% of teachers were satisfied with the online education. Teachers’ professional title, students’ year of study, continent of origin and location of current residence significantly influenced the online education satisfaction. The most influential barrier for students was the severity of the COVID-19 situation and for teachers it was the sense of distance. The most influential facilitating factor for students was a well-accomplished course assignment and for teachers it was the successful administration of the online courses. Conclusions Several key factors have been identified that affected the attitudes of international health science students from LMICs and their teachers towards online education in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. To improve the online education outcome, medical schools are advised to promote the facilitating factors and cope with the barriers, by providing support for students and teaching faculties to deal with the anxiety caused by the pandemic, caring for the state of mind of in-China students away from home, maintaining the engagement of out-China students studying from afar and enhancing collaborations with overseas institutions to create practice opportunities at students’ local places.

Currently, the 2019 Coronavirus Disease pandemic has caused serious damage to health throughout the world. Its contagious capacity has forced the governments of the world to decree isolation and quarantine to try to control the pandemic. The consequences that it leaves in all sectors of society have been disastrous. However, technological advances have allowed people to continue their different activities to some extent while maintaining isolation. Universities have great penetration in the use of technology, but they have also been severely affected. To give continuity to education, universities have been forced to move to an educational model based on synchronous encounters, but they have maintained the methodology of a face-to-face educational model, what has caused several problems in the learning of students. This work proposes the transition to a hybrid educational model, provided that this transition is supported by data analysis to identify the new needs of students. The knowledge obtained is contrasted with the performance presented by the students in the face-to-face modality and the necessary parameters for the transition to this modality are clearly established. In addition, the guidelines and methodology of online education are considered in order to take advantage of the best of both modalities and guarantee learning.
