<p class="Abstract">The use of perceptual inputs is an emerging area within HCI that suggests a developing Perceptual User Interface (PUI) that may prove advantageous for those involved in mobile serious games and immersive social network environments. Since there are a large variety of input devices, software platforms, possible interactions, and myriad ways to combine all of the above elements in pursuit of a PUI, we propose in this paper a basic experimental framework that will be able to standardize study of the wide range of interactive applications for testing efficacy in learning or information retrieval and also suggest improvements to emerging PUIs by enabling quick iteration. This rapid iteration will start to define a targeted range of interactions that will be intuitive and comfortable as perceptual inputs, and enhance learning and information retention in comparison to traditional GUI systems. The work focuses on the planning of the technical development of two scenarios, and the first steps in developing a framework to evaluate these and other PUIs for efficacy and pedagogy.</p>

Abstract The field of social network studies has been growing within the last 40 years, gathering scholars from a wide range of disciplines (biology, chemistry, geography, international relations, mathematics, political sciences, sociology etc.) and covering diverse substantive research topics. Using Google metrics, the scientific production within the field it is shown to follow an ascending trend since the late 60s. Within the Romanian sociology, social network analysis is still in his early spring, network studies being low in number and rather peripheral. This note gives a brief overview of social network analysis and makes some short references to the current state of the network studies within Romanian sociology

The explosive growth and widespread accessibility of medical information on the Internet have led to a surge of research activity in a wide range of scientific communities including health informatics and information retrieval (IR). One of the common concerns of this research, across these disciplines, is how to design either clinical decision support systems or medical search engines capable of providing adequate support for both novices (e.g., patients and their next-of-kin) and experts (e.g., physicians, clinicians) tackling complex tasks (e.g., search for diagnosis, search for a treatment). However, despite the significant multi-disciplinary research advances, current medical search systems exhibit low levels of performance. This survey provides an overview of the state of the art in the disciplines of IR and health informatics, and bridging these disciplines shows how semantic search techniques can facilitate medical IR. First,we will give a broad picture of semantic search and medical IR and then highlight the major scientific challenges. Second, focusing on the semantic gap challenge, we will discuss representative state-of-the-art work related to feature-based as well as semantic-based representation and matching models that support medical search systems. In addition to seminal works, we will present recent works that rely on research advancements in deep learning. Third, we make a thorough cross-model analysis and provide some findings and lessons learned. Finally, we discuss some open issues and possible promising directions for future research trends.

The design of RoboSim, a virtual environment for modular robots which controls simulated robots with code written for the hardware robots without modification, is described in detail in this paper along with its applications in educational environments. RoboSim integrates into the Ch programming environment, a C/C++ interpreter, that provides the ability to remotely control robots through interpreted C/C++ code allowing users to alternate between hardware and virtual robots without modifying the code. Open source software projects Open Dynamics Engine, OpenSceneGraph, and Qt are employed to produce the virtual environment and user interface which provide the capability of running on all major software platforms. The design of the software includes multiple library modules each specific to a particular task; therefore the simulation library and Graphical User Interface (GUI) can link against only the necessary libraries. The GUI links against the graphical library and XML library to give an interactive view of the RoboSim Scene as users are adding robots and obstacles into both the GUI and simulation. Execution of Ch code generates a new RoboSim Scene window which has the entire simulation that utilizes the simulation, graphical, xml, and callback libraries, in addition to the identical Scene from the GUI. It generates its own window for the user to view and interact with the progress of the simulation.

Social media has been a widespread phenomenon in the recent years. People shared a lot of thought in social media, and these data posted on the internet could be used for study and researches. As one of the fastest growing social network, Twitter is a particularly popular social media to be studied because it allows researchers to access their data. This research will look the correlation between Twitter chatter of a brand and the sales of brands in Indonesia. Factors such as sentiment and tweet rate are expected to be able to predict the popularity of a brand. Being one of the biggest industries in Indonesia, automotive industry is an interesting subject to study. A wide range of people buys vehicles, and even gather as communities based on their car or motorcycle brand preference. The Twitter results of sentiment analysis and tweet rate will be compared with real world sales results published by GAIKINDO and AISI.

Customers can choose from a wide range of food menu items within just a few minutes. In today’s modern food business, it's also able to deliver fast and easily to a customer’s place. The work presented as Online Food Ordering Management System simplifies the ordering process. The proposed solution presents a user interface and changes the menu to include all available options, creating customer work easier. Allows customers to order any item that they like and adjust the quantity of the food item. The order confirmation is displayed to the customer on the Homepage of the website. The order is put to the queue, updated across both the database and the admin panel, and provided in real-time. This system aids the staff with checking over orders in real-time and executing them effectively and easily with few errors. Here, the customer can also reserve a table at a restaurant of his/her choice and will get the confirmation of their reserved table on the homepage of our website.

Social networks have proven to be very convenient and effective medium for the spreading of marketing messages, advertising, branding and promotion of products and services. Social networks offer companies, nonprofit organizations, political parties etc. sending certain messages for free. In addition, they allow companies access to a wide range of characteristics of their users. Developing appropriate, the winning strategy for marketing in social media is a comprehensive, time-intensive process therefore it is important to know to manage their content. Social networks transform certain classical approaches to marketing. They provide creative and relatively easy way to increase public awareness of the company and its products, and facilitate obtaining feedback and decision making. These are sources of different information about users and groups that they've joined. The success itself of marketing performance on a social network depends on the readiness and training of organizations to perform on them.

The user of dynamic social network does not require irrelevant and vast amount of information during a search. A need of an intelligent search is required to get the reduced, filtered and relevant information that is achieved using an intelligent information retrieval and web mining. In this paper, identification and description of facts related to needs of an intelligent search in dynamic social network has been done by the authors after the deep and thorough study conducted on several journal and conference papers that are scattered on different electronic databases globally. In this chapter we will show how modern FPGA offers the possibility of implementing Reconfigurable Virtual Instrumentation, a new kind of electronic instrumentation which generates interesting opportunities for regular users but that also poses several technical challenges for advanced users and instrument developers. We will analyze some of the main problems and we will give some ideas and possible strategies to deal with them. In order to put the subject in the right context we will review some general concepts regarding instrumentation in general and we later proceed with some more specific concepts and definitions. The chapter also describes two hardware/software platforms for science and high-education developed at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) where the concept of RVI proposed in this chapter was applied. Although we mainly adopt a scientist's prospective to define and analyze instrumentation, most of the conclusions drawn along this chapter can be easily generalized for a wide range of applications in commercial or industrial sectors.

This chapter introduces the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Virtual Library as a tool for linking researchers and agricultural research results. The CGIAR is a strategic alliance of countries, international and regional organizations, and private foundations supporting 15 international agricultural centers that work in partnership with national agricultural research institutions and societies. The research results generated are numerous and cover a wide range of subject fields. While these are properly documented, locating relevant and timely information across the system’s 15 centers is a long and tedious process as individual databases have to be searched. The CGIAR virtual library (CGVLibrary) project of the CGIAR Libraries and Information Services Consortium (CGIARLISC) was created in 2005 to address the difficulty of information retrieval across the various centers. It is now available via the WWW (http://vlibrary.cgiar.org/) and knowledge generated by the CGIAR can now be retrieved with a few mouse clicks.
