During the last decade, GPS tracking has become a key technology for data collection. In this chapter, the authors develop a practice-ready guideline for how to design and conduct GPS tracking investigations. They do so by first developing a V-model for GPS tracking, which describes the different phases of a GPS tracking data collection and the choices that have to be made in each phase. Thereafter, the authors show how this model can be applied in practice in a case study. The V-model is the first model that systematically combines methodological insights from the literature on GPS tracking and practical experiences from a number of GPS tracking projects into a practical guideline. Researchers can use this model as a starting point when designing a GPS tracking data collection. The authors hope that the model can constitute a first step towards the development of best practice.

Abstract A new project has just been launched to write a synchronic, descriptive grammar of Niçois, the Occitan dialect of Nice. In this article, I define the corpus of the research. To do so, I first review written production from the Middle Ages to the present. I then analyze the linguistic features of Niçois over time, in order to determine the precise starting point of the current language state. But because of reinforced normativism and the decreasing social use of Niçois among the educated population, written language after WWII became artificial and does not really correspond to recordings made in the field. The corpus will thus be composed of writings from the 1820’s to WWII and recordings from the last few decades.

The number of family caregivers to individuals with dementia is increasing. Family physicians are often the first point of access to the health care system for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Caregivers are at an increased risk of developing negative physical, cognitive and affective health problems themselves. Caregivers also describe having unmet needs to help them sustain care in the community. Family physicians are in a unique position to help support caregivers and individuals with dementia, but often struggle with keeping up with best practice dementia service knowledge. The Dementia Wellness Questionnaire was designed to serve as a starting point for discussions between caregivers and family physicians by empowering caregivers to communicate their needs and concerns and to enhance family physicians’ access to specific dementia support information. The DWQ aims to alert physicians of caregiver and patient needs. This pilot study aimed to explore the experiences of physicians and caregivers of people using the Questionnaire in two family medicine clinics in Ontario, Canada. Interviews with physicians and caregivers collected data on their experiences using the DWQ following a 10-month data gathering period. Data was analyzed using content analysis. Results indicated that family physicians may have an improved efficacy in managing dementia by having dementia care case specific guidelines integrated within electronic medical records. By having time-efficient access to tailored supports, family physicians can better address the needs of the caregiver–patient dyad and help support family caregivers in their caregiving role. Caregivers expressed that the Questionnaire helped them remember concerns to bring up with physicians, in order to receive help in a more efficient manner.

This paper explores the advances made in identifying trace amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that originate from forensic specimens, such as drugs, explosives, live human scent and the scent of death, as well as the probative value for detecting such odours. The ability to locate and identify the VOCs liberated from or left by forensic substances is of increasing importance to criminal investigations as it can indicate the presence of contraband and/or associate an individual to a particular location or object. Although instruments have improved significantly in recent decades—with sensitivities now rivalling that of biological detectors—it is widely recognized that canines are generally still more superior for the detection of odourants due to their speed, versatility, ruggedness and discriminating power. Through advancements in the detection of VOCs, as well as increased standardization efforts for instruments and canines, the reliability of odour as evidence has continuously improved and is likely to continue to do so. Moreover, several legal cases in which this novel form of evidence has been accepted into US courts of law are discussed. As the development and implementation of best practice guidelines for canines and instruments increase, their reliability in detecting VOCs of interest should continue to improve, expanding the use of odour as an acceptable form of forensic evidence.

The objective of this research was to investigate the perception of 424 children and teenagers about the programs they watch on tv, and what kind of programs they would produce if they had a camera on their hands. The data collection was made in 12 schools of Distrito Federal, attended by students who belong to medium and lower income classes. A questionnaire was presented to the students, who were asked to elaborate individually some audiovisual instructions with drawings (storyboard). The starting point to the elaboration of the instructions by the kids and teens was the question: What tv program would you make if you had a camera on your hands? This paper presents the analysis of the answers of the children and teenagers about the question above, as well as the other questions in the questionnaire, so that it was possible to observe which kind of relation they have with the television and which tv storyboards they would like to watch in the open channels.

This teaching case addresses the strategic choices of social entrepreneurs and the issues they face in search of funding. In the heart of Europe’s capital, Brussels, two aspiring entrepreneurs founded Le Champignon de Bruxelles to produce exotic mushrooms. Being true social entrepreneurs, they use a recycled substrate—brewery dredge—to do so, as such, minimizing the distance the mushrooms travel from farm to plate. After the typical “entrepreneur-in-the-basement” start, they are now at a turning point. They established themselves as a serious player in the market, producing over 6000 kg of mushrooms every month. This journey, however, did not come without its challenges. Along the way, they struggled to reconcile their idealistic mindset with the realities of the economic system and adopted a more pragmatic approach in response. At the moment, they are at a decisive moment in the company’s development and are contemplating whether their current business model should be diversified and internationalized.

Introduction:In British Columbia (BC), Canada, it is increasingly commonplace for communities to experience yearly disaster events such as floods, forest fires, avalanches, and mudslides. Nurses are known to be one of the largest groups of healthcare workers and are often challenged to care for members of the public during these events. Many nurses have stated that they do not have enough education to provide quality care in a disaster role, as they received no education in their undergraduate nursing degrees.Aim:The aim of this study was to explore how and what nurse educators are teaching undergraduate nursing students regarding the disaster nursing role within Schools of Nursing in BC, Canada. Understanding the current practice of teaching will serve as a starting point for shaping future best practice undergraduate nursing disaster educational frameworks. Methods:This study used a qualitative case study methodology guided by Merriam’s procedural approach with a theoretical framework of adult teaching and learning. Results:The findings indicate that disaster nursing knowledge is taught either within existing global health courses or rarely is leveled throughout the program. Many challenges exist for educators, which include lack of current resources, workload restrictions, and lack of personal disaster knowledge. Content is determined by the educator. However, there is no specific model or link to disaster nursing competencies or assessment strategies. Most content is delivered didactically by the educator with some expert guest speakers or collaborative simulation events.Discussion:The identified priority challenge is to obtain clarity and understanding around just what knowledge is required and how it should be evaluated. Some suggestions for a specific undergraduate disaster nursing model will be presented in order to ensure that students have the foundational knowledge that they require and that our educators are prepared to teach them.

Setting up an eye tracking experiment involves multitier processes that cover important issues such as developing the data collection guidelines, establishing data analysis protocols, and giving meaning to data. Although eye tracking handbooks have established imperative discussion on how the data should be analysed and written, there is still a dearth in the literature on data collection guidelines caused by the variety of features in different kinds of eye trackers. In this study, the researchers review the use of a wearable eye tracking apparatus with authentic materials and interview protocols. Exemplified through a preliminary study conducted on Year Six students in a primary school that investigates the internal processes of reading ESL texts, the significance and implications of using a wearable eye-tracking apparatus with a single point calibration are reported to improve the data collection guidelines. Relatedly, considerations for research procedures and instrument designs are also made in this paper.

The aim of the study is to investigate the errors that first grade students have made in their writing of verticalnumbers which have just been applied by removing cursive writing. Considering the aim of the study, verticalnumber writing styles of the first-grade students in primary school were analyzed. The sample of the study consistsof 116 students who are studying in the first grade of primary school. The study was defined as a case study. A datacollection tool was developed for determining the mistakes that students made while writing the vertical numbers inline with the aim of the research. Through the data collection tool, all numbers from 0 to 9 are given as writtenstatements and it is required to write the numbers in the spaces left under them. The results obtained from theanalysis of the data include the existing types of errors that are relevant to the number writing in the students after thefirst literacy teaching processes. According to the results of the research, writing the numbers oblique,vertical-horizontal-diagonal straight lines are drawn in a curvilinear style, curvilinear and circular lines are distorted, numbers are not aligned in the direction of writing, and some numbers are written in reverse have been seen as themost common errors. In accordance with the types of errors identified in the research, it is thought that the emphasison dictation studies to increase the awareness of students will decrease these types of errors and their frequency. It isalso stated that it is important to diversify the related studies as much as possible, taking into consideration theindividual differences of the students.

THE closing lines of Act I, Scene n of Terence's Eunuchus (189–206) pose certain difficulties; in particular it is far from clear when Phaedria and Parmeno leave the stage-if indeed they do so at all. Taking this small difficulty as a starting-point, I wish to examine the text of Eunuchus at this place in order to see what information can be gained about the structure of the play and about any alterations Terence may have made in adapting his Greek original. In this I shall mainly be confining myself to Terence's adaptation of Menander's Eunuchus at this one point, and shall not re-examine the welltrodden ground concerning the introduction of the parasite and the boastful Captain from Menander's Colax.
