Reshaping Human Capital Formation Through Digitalization

This chapter focuses on reshaping intellectual capital formation via electronic-based learning platforms. A critical examination of the literature on human capital development through e-learning was conducted and it was found that digitalization enhances teaching / learning processes and activities, rather than rendering the traditional methods obsolete. The commonly used learning management systems are Blackboard, Class-Front and WebCT. With various virtual learning platforms such as game-based learning, mobile learning, social learning, and virtual world learning, the teaching and learning environments are being extended. The evolution of high levels of sophisticated information technologies across the globe has tremendously improved intellectual capital formation through digital collaboration, and interactions. Therefore, it takes continuous update of intellectual assets through digitized processes to keep abreast of vast innovations and technical know-how.

Subject. Currently, as the global economy evolves, its innovative components should demonstrate a tendency of accelerated growth as intellectual capital, information technologies, increasing knowledge and digitization of mushrooming production processes. Nowadays, intellectual capital is one of the economic development drivers. However, the economic community is found to have no generally accepted wording of the concept, thus laying the basis for this article. Objectives. The study sums up the analysis of approaches used by the Russian and foreign economists to determining the economic substance of intellectual capital. We also identify the importance of human capital as its components and specify the definition of the concept. Methods. The article overviews and analyzes proceedings by the most renowned authors, which substantiate how the economic substance of intellectual capital should be unveiled, and suggest its definitions. Results. We specified the definition of intellectual capital concerning the current economic development. We suggest integrating a new component into intellectual capital, such as intellectual property, which includes products of intellectual activity and intangible assets. They can be owned by the entity or other legal entities and individuals, including some employees of the entity. Conclusions and Relevance. The specified definition of intellectual capital will help address issues of sustainable economic development and ensure the competitiveness of the Russian entities nationwide and worldwide, since it directly contributes to intellectual capital and its components.

Technology is a means of accomplishing a task mainly by using technical processes, methods, or knowledge.The importance of technology in connection with any type of development is widely recognized, especially having considering nowadays’ worldwide Covid-19 context.The passage from standardized to digitalized teaching-learning process hasn’t been easy. Information technology and educational technology are now extensively being used in schools and refer to a wide multitude of teaching-and-learning–related software and hardware used during the lessons. Learning becomes effective when the students are actively engaged, are collaborating with one another, are in charge of their learning process, become critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers. Scientific thinking appears when thinking about the content of science and the set of reasoning processes that permeate the field of science: induction, deduction, experimental design, causal reasoning, concept formation, hypothesis testing, and so on, are combined. Simultaneously, teachers continue their lifelong learning process online, design digital lessons, gamify lessons, obtain real time results, are part of the staffroom at school and also part of a larger, more diverse, virtual staffroom. In conclusion, the goal of using technology inside and outside the classroom is perceived as a way to individualize education and to develop students’ competences and cognitive skills.

Social enterprises are a hybrid form of organizations that enact nonprofit and for-profit activities simultaneously. Like their nonprofit and for-profit counterparts, social enterprises are facing the same challenges, if not more, in a turbulent economy. This chapter aims to examine how structural capital assists social enterprises in the development and management of human capital in today's competitive environment. Based on 22 qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews across 10 social enterprises and nonprofit organizations that perform social entrepreneurship in Australia, the findings suggest that structural capital helps social enterprises in facilitating human capital development and management for innovation. Thus, the study contributes to the literature by arguing that structural capital plays an essential role in social enterprises. Strategies should be developed for a more balanced development of intellectual capital if an intellectual capital-based view of the firm is to be fully integrated.


The article defines the prerequisites that actualize the study of intellectualization of human capital development in the digital economy. The importance of intellectual capital in securing innovative development of society and enhancing competitive positions on a global scale while using modern information technologies are emphasized. The necessity of increasing the motivation to receive education, which meets the needs of business structures in the digital economy is determined. The importance of formation of digital competencies of key groups that are under study by the leading international organizations of the world is determined. The importance of developing new approaches to the process of realizing the potential of economic security of enterprises during the digitization of the economy is emphasized. The peculiarities of the interconnection of the process of intellectualization of human capital and economic security of enterprises in the digital economy are identified.

Based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia will face a demographic bonus era during 2020-2035. That implies that the number of productive-age population will be higher than elderly peopleand children (dependents). This phenomenon offers an opportunity due to a lower dependencyburden. However, the situation could be catastrophic if the government is not ready to equip theproductive age population with necessary skills. The objective of this study is to determine whetheror not higher spending on education has positive influence on human capital formation in BengkuluProvince. The research used panel data analysis of ten regions in Bengkulu Province for the 2010-2014 periods. Research results showed that spending on education does not have significant impacton human capital development, while women empowerment and infrastructure have positive effecton human capital. Our results imply that more spending on education does not matter if it is notsupported by quality infrastructure that makes education facilities accessible.

Subject of research – the process of formation of human capital by means of education Formation of human capital by means of education. The purpose of writing the article is to formulate theoretical approaches that determine the role of education in the formation of human capital in Ukraine. Methodology of work – system-structural and comparative analyzes (for the formation of human capital in educational institutions); monographic (when studying the problem of human capital formation and its components in Ukraine and in developed countries of the world); socio-economic analysis (in the study of the actual state of affairs of the educational system and its material security); forecasting (prospect of development of educational potential in Ukraine and its investment). The results of the work – proposed new approaches to the process of vocational guidance, the formation of an applicant who has a clear image of the future profession, a personally oriented trajectory of training and development throughout life. It is argued that the need to increase investment in human capital development in educational institutions has been proved. Conclusions – human capital, based on the intellectual abilities and talent of the individual, as well as knowledge and practical skills acquired in the process of learning, education and practical activities is the greatest value of the state. Improving the educational process will enable us to ensure proper social and economic development. We have no other option except a scientific and educational breakthrough.

One of the continuing challenges of education is enabling those who strive to improve teaching, learning, and research to take advantage of the too-rapidly-changing new environment created by telecommunications and information technologies. To do so, educational professionals should engage in lifelong professional development and use new hybrid technologies to help build community and support collaboration. This paper explores the issues of technology and professional development from the frame of reference of my work with hundreds of colleges that have benefited from the Teaching, Learning, and Technology Group (TLT Group), an organization whose mission is to motivate and enable institutions and individuals to improve teaching and learning with technology, while helping them cope with change. This article discusses challenges that higher education faces: creating visions worth working toward; developing strategies and tools for achieving intermediate goals; and the importance of breaking taboos along the way.
