In recent years, the development of information technologies and network distributions has brought about the creation of useful learning resources, one of which is the e-learning environment. With its promise of ease and ready accessibility, e-learning, a term generally used to refer to computer-aided learning, is fast becoming ubiquitous in educational institutes. In terms of enhancing the online learning experience, digital libraries have tremendous potential in offering resources that can support e-learning. In this chapter, the concepts of “e-learning” and “digital library” are examined. In addition, the role of digital libraries and their integration into the e-learning environment are also discussed.

This chapter aims to discuss the potential of digital libraries to offer unparalleled resources for supporting open distance e-learning (ODeL). This chapter addresses and discusses such features as what is meant by ODeL and how it can be supported by the library and the functionality of the digital library, and how ODeL resources are included and organised in the digital library environment. The chapter explores the advantages of digital libraries for ODeL and the types of learning that can be supported by digital libraries. There is surely an interest in the usage of electronic resources for teaching, learning, and research, but this appears to be matched by a lack of awareness of how best to assimilate these resources into ODeL. The chapter provides valuable insight into the role and influence of digital libraries and e-resources on ODeL.

In this paper a newly developed e-learning environment for the support of the study on Material Properties is presented. It was developed to support the blended learning of the material and shape stiffness. Course structure is organized in HTML content, and virtual and remote laboratories are integrated in the computer aided learning module (CALM), which support both teach ers during the hand-on teaching and students during self-study.

Two instructors report our experience co-teaching an action research (AR) required as part of an e-learning master’s degree. Adopting a practice-centered stance we focus on the course activities of participants (instructors and students), with particular attention to the careful crafting of course elements with the goal of achieving an excellent learning experience for students. The case narrative describes the course and ways in which we have modified the course based on a variety of considerations. We also outline problems and areas still in need of improvement. We reflect on the role of theory in our own pursuit of excellence, and the role of theory in our students’ inquiry processes. We find that theory is just another tool or resource to apply to the work, with the core concerns being the needs of students and the learning environment.

The Chinese government is pursuing e-learning policies which makes job-training with a knowledge-based society. To explain more fully the important role of the e-learning environment, this article undertakes some typical examples of the governments' job-training under e-learning environment. The main problems in servants' job-training in China are the low quantity in the servants' training, short of restriction, the uniform manner in the training and less fairness and availability of opportunities for educational training. In order to develop the e-learning system, the civil servant's job training policies are provided and the measures of the effective e-learning system are designed.

The success of the tourism industry as part of the service sector depends on the quality in a great extent, therefore qualified and motivated employees are crucial. Tourism is above all a business for the people, and the quality of the relationship between the employees in the tourism enterprise and the tourists is one of the most important components for the overall tourist experience. Education and training are key factors for the sustainable development of tourism by providing the necessary skills at all levels. Global development and mobility opportunities make it possible for tourism development to outstrip staffing levels. There is a mismatch between the existing education, the vocational training, and the real needs of the sector. At the same time, new challenges arise, and they require continuous training for employees in the sector. The main purpose of the scientific report is to investigate the role of information technologies and corporate e-learning in the Bulgarian tourism industry. Based on the bibliographic review, there was a lack of research on corporate e-learning in the field of tourism in Bulgaria as well as insufficient information on the role of information technologies as part of the training process. The study, the results of which will be presented in the report, identifies existing practices on corporate training and the application of information technologies as part of the training process among the respondents - Bulgarian tourism organizations. The study aims to identify the difference between the possibilities of available information technologies and their real application in the process of corporate training and human resource development in Bulgarian tourism.

This chapter presents solutions for personalized observation and enhanced learning experience in digital libraries (DLs) by special smart educational nooks. Main factors related to the DLs user experience and content usability issues are considered. During the user experience design, the users' needs, goals, preferences, and interests have been carefully studied and have become the starting point for the new DLs functionality development. This chapter demonstrates several educational nooks or their components, such as learning tools in a digital library for fashion objects, a smart learning corner in an iconographical art digital library, an ontology of learning analysis method, and some educational games for art and culture in which authors are co-developers.

This chapter gives an overview of digital library topics: digital libraries and information architecture; digital libraries and electronic learning (e-learning); digital libraries and the Semantic Web; digital library evaluation; digital libraries and service quality; and the significance of digital libraries in the digital age. The Internet and the World Wide Web provide the impetus and technological environment for the development and operation of digital libraries in the digital age. Digital libraries comprise digital collections, services, and infrastructure to educationally support the lifelong learning, research, and conservation of the recorded knowledge. Whereas traditional libraries are limited by storage space, digital libraries have the potential to effectively store much more information and documents, because digital information requires very little physical space to contain them. Encouraging digital libraries has the potential to improve academic library performance and gain educational goals in the digital age.

Advances in information technologies have created unique opportunities for the free exchange of ideas on a global scale. To this end, a growing number of education stakeholders are finding that applying an open source approach to content development provides an extraordinary opportunity to change the curricula paradigm. Access to quality learning materials and the free exchange of knowledge is increasing. The authors explore the increased adoption of open and shared educational resources (OSER), with such examples as Curriki. Curriki extends the model by providing an integrated learning environment and resource repository centered on a culture of collective participation.
