Distance learning and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) are both ancient, yet both are new. Distance learning is now associated with online learning using digital technologies, but it goes back to learning by rudimentary means of correspondence between someone with something to teach and those with a desire or need to learn. Oral stories and traditions preserved and passed on the teaching of individuals and cultures. With the development of writing, epistles, letters, scrolls, then books became the favored medium. In the late modern age, correspondence courses used overland mail delivery for those exchanges, but that was replaced with audio (telephone, audio tapes) and video (television, video tapes) means. The common thread for all those centuries of such distance learning is that the process tended to see learning as transmission of information and knowledge from a knower to relatively passive receivers (students).

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a fundamental impact on various aspects of humanity. Starting from attacking health, this pandemic has hit the education sector which is quite influential on human life. Enforcement of regulations while maintaining a distance of about one meter has implications for the education process in Indonesia. Therefore, the educational element must encourage the distance learning process. The term arises because it sees distance learning as an alternative to face-to-face methods so that education can always be held without controversy under any circumstances. This activity raises the use of technology that is used as teaching material for distance education. Distance learning techniques allow users to take advantage of technologies such as online learning. Teachers will be required to abandon using traditional techniques whose methods are somewhat indifferent. Online learning creates internet connectivity and the use of information technology in helping the teaching and learning process that can be applied in Google Classroom. In this article, researchers focus on using Google Classroom in the context of implementing distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed people's lives around the world. Thousands of millions of people around the world must stay at home to protect and prevent Covid-19 transmission. Covid-19 cases in children have also increased even though the prevalence rate is still lower than adult cases. The government through the Ministry of Education and Culture made recommendations during the Covid-19 pandemic to conduct distance / online learning, so that the teaching and learning process can still take place even though you don't have to come to school. This requires a separate adaptation process for the continuity of online learning to run well, with digital media as a learning tool. Screen time or staring at the screen for children has a recommended time limit, because if it is used beyond the safe time it will have a serious impact on the child's health and development. It takes the role of parents, teachers / schools, the community, and policy makers to oversee the process of using digital media in distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. In conclusion, the use of digital media during the pandemic is increasing, especially for children, apart from being a medium for distance learning as well as a medium for entertainment. This must be properly monitored by parents, teachers / schools, the community, and policy makers so that the adverse effects of using digital media do not occur according to WHO / IDAI recommendations.

2020 was a truly revolutionary year in terms of education – from the paradigm of predominantly traditional education, we had to rapidly “step” into a distance format, regardless of our desire and readiness. In 2020 two tectonic shifts happened at once: the shift from synchronous offline classes (education) to synchronous online and then from synchronous formats to asynchronous and mixed. In addition to issues related to the technical support of the educational process, the issue related to the development of new professional and pedagogical principles and rules that would contribute to the highly moral behavior and activities of the teacher in creating a comfortable environment for all participants of distance learning process, emphasizing that ethical requirements must reflect the relationship between teachers and learners. We conducted a research aimed at revealing the principles and values the teachers consider crucial to follow when conducting online classes, the skills they think they need master in order to raise the level of their professional expertise, improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes, and make their students self-confident and independent. The results of the survey can be used in designing special courses devoted to professional or pedagogical ethics in online learning.

Within many educational institutions across the world, the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses is being facilitated by online learning technologies. The development and transformation of academic courses for online learning delivery provides a number of opportunities for both the academic institution and prospective students. However, there are a number of important issues that need to be addressed if online learning is to contribute to the educational experience of the student in a positive way and actually enhance teaching and learning as compared with more traditional face-to-face delivery. This paper describes the process of transforming a Masters course in the Management of eBusiness offered by the University of Paisley from a distance learning to an online distance learning course. The paper will identify the main educational theories that informed and influenced the development of the online course as well as identify the main lessons learnt from evaluating the course which has now been running for a number of years. The lessons learnt will be of interest to many people involved in the development and running of online learning courses.

The covid-19 pandemic that hit the world including Indonesia has caused the teaching and learning system change from face-to-face in the classroom to distance learning or online learning. Online learning requires teachers and students to be able to use the information and communication technology (ICT). In ELT, the learning system is also implemented online. One of platforms commonly used in online communication is e-mail. This current study aims to describe: (1) teacher’s perceptions about the use of e-mail as a learning medium in ELT, (2) students’ perceptions about the use of e-mail as a learning medium in ELT. The subjects of this descriptive qualitative research were an EFL teacher and 20 students at a senior high school in Barru. For collecting data, the researchers applied questionnaire, documentation, and interview. Data was analyzed inductively or qualitatively. The results indicated the teacher’s perceptions on the use of e-mail in learning that email is an effective device, e-mail can be used to send many documents, e-mail as a tool to achieve learning objectives, and e-mail makes learning easier. Students’ perceptions on the use of e-mail are e-mail can be used for getting learning materials, e-mail is easy to use, and students can access various assignments on email. However, a small number of students still encountered obstacles in using email as a learning medium.
