An Efficient and Effective Approach to Developing Engineering E-Training Courses

In developing traditional learning materials, quality is the key issue to be considered. However, for high technical e-training courses, not only the quality of the learning materials but also the efficiency of developing the courses needs to be taken into consideration. It is a challenging issue for experienced engineers to develop up-to-date e-training courses for inexperienced engineers before further new technologies are proposed. To cope with these problems, a concept relationship-oriented approach is proposed in this paper. A system for developing e-training courses has been implemented based on the novel approach. Experimental results showed that the novel approach can significantly shorten the time needed for developing e-training courses, such that engineers can receive up-to-date technologies in time.

Customization is prevailing in the apparel industry with increasing requirements from consumers and the popularization of new technologies. This study aimed to establish the novel approach of applying existing and new body measurements to customize the pattern block of a men's shirt, to enrich the anthropometric database, and to develop the fit evaluation procedure. New body measurements were extracted from 156 scanned male mesh bodies in accordance with the morphological features and developing method of pattern block sketching. Owing to these new body measurements, the customized shirt with assured high-level fit can be obtained by generating original patterns as bespoke, on the one hand, and by transforming ready-to-wear patterns, on the other hand. The first way is e-bespoke tailoring that utilizes the developed schedule of body morphological features, improved shirt pattern of desired style (body fit, slim fit, regular fit, and comfort fit), and virtual try-on software CLO 3D. The proposed method of virtual e-bespoke design allows readily completing a well-fitted and balanced men's shirt, which will contribute to the efficiency of customization and quality of end-products for the apparel industry.

The paper presents the novel HF-GEN method for determining the characteristics of Electrical Appliance (EA) operating in the end-user environment. The method includes a measurement system that uses a pulse signal generator to improve the quality of EA identification. Its structure and the principles of operation are presented. A method for determining the characteristics of the current signals’ transients using the cross-correlation is described. Its result is the appliance signature with a set of features characterizing its state of operation. The quality of the obtained signature is evaluated in the standard classification task with the aim of identifying the particular appliance’s state based on the analysis of features by three independent algorithms. Experimental results for 15 EAs categories show the usefulness of the proposed approach.

The paper proposed a novel compact genetic algorithm which is named as pseudo-parallel compact genetic algorithm. There are two populations in the process of evolution, and the two subpopulation can exchange information between each other. The experimental results show that the novel algorithm performs better than simple genetic algorithm. Then it is used to solve weapon target allocation (WTA) problem, and the simulation result shows that it is more efficient comparing with other methods. Because the compact genetic algorithm is easy to operate and take up less memory, so the algorithm exhibit a better quality of solution and the required less time than before.

Melanocytic schwannoma (MS) is a rare nerve sheath tumour characterised by melanin-producing neoplastic schwann cells that typically affects the posterior spinal nerve roots. We report an ultrarare case of recurrent/metastatic MS associated with Carney complex in a young woman with family history of breast cancer. This highlights the novel approach of combined checkpoint inhibitors (CPI) and radiotherapy. The patient was initially treated with Nivolumab along with concurrent external beam radiotherapy. There was sustained clinical benefit achieved for over 15 months with preserved quality of life. Addition of Ipilimumab, which she tolerated reasonably well, helped to control the progressive disease again for another 12 months. She harboured a rare PRKAR1A R228 mutation (Carney complex) and received appropriate targeted therapy. She survived for 51 and 35 months from her initial diagnosis and start of CPI, respectively, which to the best of our knowledge is the longest documented survival in this rare entity.

Human Anatomy tutors had to adapt to Covid-19 reality by restructuring their methods by teaching in spring – autumn in 2020 at the Department of Morphology. The aims of this study were to identify and understand the variety of solutions being utilized by tutors and to clarify new challenges and directions. The open-ended interviews were used to collect data from 15 Anatomy tutors. Thematic analysis, used to analyze the qualitative data, emphasized the tutors’ perceptions of remote practical anatomy classes’ efficiency. Tutors developed their action plans for online teaching and highlighted the preparation of new materials, adoption of new technologies and skills. Based on the results of the transition from face-to-face to online anatomy teaching, there were detected five thematic items that were related to tutors’ challenges. It was concluded that challenges that need to become a priority for tutors in online education concern mainly the special training courses, design of new models, video and/or online lectures, demonstration labs, practical classes, collegial contacts, technicians, IT-staff and colleagues support, consultation hours and communication. Future directions for tutors must be effective not only for increasing the quality of the Human Anatomy study process but also for the evolution of anatomy education.

Opioids are the mainstay of management for patients with cancer-related pain. Although the analgesic efficacy of opioid therapy is well documented, the recent European Pain in Cancer survey demonstrated that the management of moderate-to-severe pain in patients with cancer is far from optimal. Bowel dysfunction, and importantly constipation, is a common side effect and has a significant impact on the patient’s morbidity and quality of life. Nonpharmacological strategies and laxatives are often not effective in the management of opioid-induced constipation (OIC), making it necessary to search for new strategies for the treatment of opioid-induced bowel dysfunction. One promising strategy is the prevention of OIC with peripherally acting opioid antagonists that specifically target the underlying cause of this condition, without affecting centrally mediated analgesia. In recent studies, the novel combination of prolonged-release oral oxycodone and prolonged-release oral naloxone provided effective analgesia with improved bowel function in patients suffering from severe cancer-related and noncancer-related pain. The combination has the potential to improve the quality of pain management significantly in these patients.

For the modulation of various data streams, Wavelength division multiplexing is utilized. Further, Dense Wavelength Division multiplexing is the type of WDM which is capable of spacing the wavelengths more closely due to its greater capacity. This technology is widely used in fiber optics as it utilizes the bandwidth in an appropriate manner. Various researchers have been carried out to make it worth using. Recently, in research, the author had used DWDM in clear weather conditions and turbulence generated in a channel. In this work, the author had utilized the RZ modulation technique which has some drawbacks. Due to this, the performance of the entire model is affected. Thus in this paper, a novel approach is presented to overcome the problems of the existing system. In the novel system, RZ encoding is replaced by Manchester encoding. Manchester encoding has several advantages over RZ encoding. Further, the simulation of the model is performed under the optisystem. Here, the Q-factor of both (proposed and with RZ encoding) models are determined in terms of a single channel, 4 channels, and 16 channels. The results showed the effectiveness of the proposed system as it increases the quality of the signal transmitted from one source to another.

AbstractWe report on a new process for the spinning of high-performance cellulosic fibers. For the first time, cellulose has been dissolved in the ionic liquid (IL) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium octanoate ([C2C1im][Oc]) via a thin film evaporator in a continuous process. Compared to other ILs, [C2C1im][Oc] shows no signs of hydrolysis with water. For dope preparation the degree of polymerization of the pulp was adjusted by electron beam irradiation and determined by viscosimetry. In addition, the quality of the pulp was evaluated by means of alkali resistance. Endless filament fibers have been spun using dry-jet wet spinning and an extruder instead of a spinning pump, which significantly increases productivity. By this approach, more than 1000 m of continuous multifilament fibers have been spun. The novel approach allows for preparing cellulose fibers with high Young's modulus (33 GPa) and unprecedented high tensile strengths up to 45 cN/tex. The high performance of the obtained fibers provides a promising outlook for their application as replacement material for rayon-based tire cord fibers.

Decreasing optimization potential concerning the weight reduction in aircraft and automotive components boost the demand for lightweight materials and new technologies. An opportunity to achieve considerable weight-savings is the application of magnesium strips produced by the novel Twin-roll casting and hot rolling technology. During the production the quality of magnesium strips can be reduced by segregations, which also influence the distribution of the mechanical properties. Exploring the formation of segregations is one research objective of this paper using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).
