It is difficult to isolate the business contribution of IT investments, and investments related to IT standardization are no exception, as discussed in the previous chapter. In Chapter 2 literature on standard setting processes and standards was described and in Chapter 3 literature was reviewed on the impact of IT on the process performance of a firm. In this chapter the choice for the research method, as part of the research approach depicted in Chapter 1, Figure 3, will be clarified and an initial conceptual model will be composed. The research method chosen comprises both exploratory and explanatory case study research as this was considered the best way to complement theory in this underdeveloped domain of IS literature (Yin, 1994). The conceptual model integrates aspects of standardization, standards application and standards control, and relates those to the impact of IT standards used in an organization on business process performance.

The study explores the impact of participatory systems on information quality using Abu Dhabi as a case study. Participatory systems are used for deciding social change to affect residents and citizens positively. The case study research method was used to examine information quality in a participatory system. Content of the participatory system was assessed for information quality and it was found to support theoretical claims that Abu Dhabi residents and citizens participate in building sustainable competition using participatory systems. The limitations of the study are found in its focus on a single application, the app CityGuard. Through examining the use of CityGuard, specific issues were recognized which allowed the definition of steps on how its use could impact social change more positively. This paper presents findings from the use of CityGuard as a public participatory tool.

This paper urges greater recognition of the case study as a research method for information management. It acknowledges concern about the representatives of case studies but by specifying the relationships between epistemology and research methods shows that this concern is misplaced. Representatives is irrelevant for many research purposes, particularly when the distinction is made between logical and statistical inference. The validity of explanations or theory derived from case studies depends on the logic of the analysis and acknowledgement of ceteris paribus conditions, not on how typical the cases may be. Typologies of case studies have been proposed and these are considered, together with recommendations for the conduct of systematic and rigorous case study research. It is stressed that research problems should be addressed using appropriate research methods. Research of the important problems within the management area frequently demands a qualitative research approach, though it would seem that such an approach is often ignored because of a positivist research orientation. An assessment of the strengths and weakness of the case study method, which highlights its potential in the vital role of theory-building, leads to the conclusions that this method has much to commend it to information management researchers (1).

The collection of data used data triangulation (focus groups and interviews of the students and senior staff members) using open-ended questions at the undergraduate level. The data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel to assess the impact poverty has on educational attainment. Different ethical aspects and challenges were considered during the research process to ensure anonymity, confidentiality, power, and authority. Based on the case study research, the institution developed their five years strategic plan, which submitting to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), and also Office for Students (OFS) for their approval. Gypsum is a by-product of phosphoric acid production, which is a solid waste from the extraction of P2O5 content in phosphate rock. Gypsum can be directly sold as bulk gypsum (split off point) or furtherly processed into purified gypsum. Similarly, purified gypsum can also be furtherly processed into granulated gypsum which has the lowest water and P2O5 content. A differential analysis based on the use of relevant cost data is needed to identify alternatives that provide the greatest benefits to the company, related to alternative decisions to sell gypsum at the split-off point or to process it further. his study aims to develop a differential analysis that is used as a basis for tactical decision making related to the decision to sell gypsum products at the split-off point or to be furtherly processed into purified gypsum and/or granulated gypsum. This study uses a qualitative research approach while the research method used is a case study research method. The result shows that the decision to furtherly process gypsum into purified gypsum and granulated gypsum generates additional profit compared to selling gypsum at the split-off point. The production and sales of granulated gypsum generate the highest profit compared to purified gypsum and bulk gypsum at the split-off point
