Vehicular networks attract a lot of attention in the research world. Novel vehicular applications need a suitable communication channel in order to extend in-vehicle capabilities and, be aware of surrounding events. However, these networks present some peculiarities, such as high mobility or specific topologies. These features affect the performance of applications; hence, more effort should be directed to identify the final necessities of the network. Few works deal with application requirements that should be considered when vehicular services are designed. In this chapter this gap is filled, proposing an analysis of application requirements mapped with suitable communication technologies for physical/MAC and network layers. This study contains key factors that must be taken into account not only at the design stage of the vehicular network, but also when applications are evaluated.

This article is devoted to identifying the features of the application of information and communication technology (ICT) in the formation of the international image of South Korea. The authors argue that information communication has had a positive effect on enhancing the image of the Republic of Korea throughout the world. They analyzed the role of ICT and key factors in its use in shaping the image strategy of South Korea. They also tried to reveal the conceptual and ideological foundations of the image strategy of South Korea, analyzing such concepts as “information policy”, “information technology”, and “image”.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify in the specialized literature published in the past 20 years about sales training, some elements or key factors that could be applied to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) as a support for the learning of the detection of business opportunities. Design/methodology/approach This is a study of a documentary nature in which a method of systematic literature review was applied to 132 studies published in journals indexed in Scopus and Scielo on sales training processes. The analysis of the data combined a process of categorization and frequencies statistical analysis. Findings The results highlight the role of ICT and specifically the use of mobile devices to support the strengthening of training in sales in terms of relationship, opportunity and flexibility in communication with the client, the construction of positive emotional environments and experiential/situated training. Originality/value The originality of this study lies in the extraction and interpretation of key factors focused on addressing a guiding question about the relationships between the use of ICT and sales training.

With the advancement in communication technologies, Internet of vehicles presents a new set of opportunities to efficiently manage transportation problems using vehicle-to-vehicle communication. However, high mobility in vehicular networks causes frequent changes in network topology, which leads to network instability. This frequently results in emergency messages failing to reach the target vehicles. To overcome this problem, we propose a data dissemination scheme for such messages in vehicular networks, based on clustering and position-based broadcast techniques. The vehicles are dynamically clustered to handle the broadcast storm problem, and a position-based technique is proposed to reduce communication delays, resulting in timely dissemination of emergency messages. The simulation results show that the transmission delay, information coverage, and packet delivery ratios improved up to 14%, 9.7%, and 5.5%, respectively. These results indicate that the proposed scheme is promising as it outperforms existing techniques.

This chapter describes the experiences and findings deploying a vehicular network architecture supporting different communication technologies. This approach has been developed taking into account key issues regarding mobility and security. These two aspects have been provided by means of the NEMO and IKEv2 protocols, respectively. In addition, thanks to the EAP protocol, transported by IKEv2, an extensible authentication method can be used to implement an access control mechanism. This work also focuses on how the terminal is aware of the surrounding environment in order to boost the handoff processes among heterogeneous networks using the IEEE 802.21 protocol. Apart from the description of the on-board system architecture, a WiMAX/WiFi deployment has been set up at the infrastructure side to validate the development of the mobility and security environment designed for vehicular networks.

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) is an emerging application of Intelligent Transport System, which is mainly to assist public safety applications such as collision avoidance between the vehicles or between vehicles and other obstacles such as pedestrians. At the same time, it challenges the data communication because of its high mobility, short link lifetime, and frequent network fragmentations. Existing spectrum standard for vehicular communication underutilizes the frequency bands in the sparsely used regions when the licensed users are not deploying them even at the peak hours of the road. Congestion or route stalling is unavoidable in vehicular networking and this builds an impression that there is always a shortage of spectrum. A solution would be to have a cognitive radio that can utilize the spectrum that is not heavily used so as to ease congestion in other areas. This chapter brings out the application of cognitive radios in vehicular environments, a new and relatively less explored area of research. This chapter looks into a few existing studies in the literature which have focused on spectrum sensing techniques, routing methodology, and security for cognitive radio vehicular networks. In addition, this chapter also discusses the impact of changes in the vehicular network on the radio propagation channel and in turn on the operation and performance of the cognitive radio vehicular network. Finally, future directions in research have highlighted the existing challenges in specific areas.

Vehicular communication is going to play a significant role in the future intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Due to the highly dynamic nature of vehicular networks (VNs) and need for efficient real-time communication, the traditional networking paradigm is not suitable for VNs. Incorporating the SDN technology in VNs provides benefits in network programmability, heterogeneity, connectivity, resource utility, safety and security, routing, and traffic management. However, there are still several challenges and open research issues due to network dynamicity, scalability, heterogeneity, interference, latency, and security that need to be addressed. This chapter presents the importance of vehicular communication in future ITS, the significance of incorporating the SDN paradigm in VNs, taxonomy for the role of SDVN, the software-defined vehicular network (SDVN) architecture, and open research issues in SDVN.

Drawing on the theoretical perspectives of the ‘Ecology of Games' and ‘Design-Actuality Gaps', both of which recognise the importance of a multitude of diverse motives and individualistic behaviour as key factors influencing organisational reform and institutional change, the chapter contributes not just to an understanding of the role of ICTs in public administration reform, but also towards that emerging body of research which is critical of managerial rationalism for an organization as a whole, and is sensitive to an ecology of actors and their various motivations operating within the symbiotic organisation.

The communication basis upon which cultural institutions are based and through which have developed has undergone significant changes in the last few months. Social distance, isolation, decrease in communication contacts involve producers and consumers of cultural products in new forms of interaction. he changed format, the ban on visiting and organizing mass events, which cultural institutions are forced to take, is intensifying the search for new platforms and communication methods that can not only compensate for isolation from the cultural context, but also provide support to both visitors and and employees. The transformation of the image of the communication world, communication channels, the communicant itself, the communicative community corrects and complicates the functioning of cultural institutions, regardless of their specificity. The article analyzes the specifics of current communications in the field of culture in the situation of a new anthropotechnical reality, and also illustrates the role of communication technologies in the conditions of transforming reality using the example of Russian museums. The reorganization of the museum sector, the use of digital resources, the imaging component are key factors for shaping the modern look of the museum. Revealing the mutual influence of communication technologies and cultural heritage will allow us to carry out not only theoretical understanding, but also the practical development of projects, ideas, and searches.
