This case traces the life of a new endeavor, starting with a small patisserie and coffeehouse and the subsequent development of the business, considering three alternatives, namely optimizing the concept, expanding through a franchise network, and building a network of company-owned stores. The story of Rui and Joana raises a wide range of issues that managers need to address. After reading and working through the case, students will be able to evaluate the product portfolio, based on actual sales data, and to evaluate and propose strategic options using classical models.

Geology of Greenland Survey Bulletin, 190, 159-166. https://doi.org/10.34194/ggub.v190.5187 _______________ Fluid inclusions in minerals from agpaitic nepheline syenites and hydrothermal veins in the Ilímaussaq complex and in similar agpaitic complexes on the Kola Peninsula, Russia, are dominated by hydrocarbon gases (predominantly methane) and hydrogen. Such volatile compositions differ considerably from those of most other igneous rocks and their formation and entrapment in minerals reflects low oxygen fugacities and a wide range of crystallisation temperatures extending to a low-temperature solidus. Their composition reflects initial low carbon contents and high water contents of the magma resulting in the exsolution of a waterrich CO2–H2O dominated vapour phase. Fractionation of chlorides into the vapour phase results in high salinities and the subsequent development of a heterogeneous vapour phase with a highly saline aqueous-rich fraction and a methane-dominated fraction, with preferential entrapment of the latter, possibly due to different wetting characteristics. The light stable isotope compositions support an abiogenic origin for the hydrocarbons in agpaitic nepheline syenite complexes.

AbstractVitamin D plays a critical role in calcium homeostasis and in the maintenance and development of skeletal health. Vitamin D status has increasingly been linked to non-skeletal health outcomes such as all-cause mortality, infectious diseases and reproductive outcomes in both humans and veterinary species. We have previously demonstrated a relationship between vitamin D status, assessed by the measurement of serum concentrations of the major vitamin D metabolite 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), and a wide range of non-skeletal health outcomes in companion and wild animals. The aims of this study were to define the host and environmental factors associated with vitamin D status in a cohort of 527 calves from Western Kenya which were part of the Infectious Disease of East African Livestock (IDEAL) cohort. A secondary aim was to explore the relationship between serum 25(OH)D concentrations measured in 7-day old calves and subsequent health outcomes over the following 12 months. A genome wide association study demonstrated that both dietary and endogenously produced vitamin D metabolites were under polygenic control in African calves. In addition, we found that neonatal vitamin D status was not predictive of the subsequent development of an infectious disease event or mortality over the 12 month follow up period.

<p>ESA's Swarm mission continues to deliver excellent data providing insight into a wide range of geophysical phenomena. The mission is an important asset whose data are used within a number of critical resources, from geomagnetic field models to space weather services. As the product portfolio grows to better deliver on the mission's scientific goals, we face increasing complexity in accessing, processing, and visualising the data and models. ESA provides “VirES for Swarm” [1] (developed by EOX IT Services) to help solve this problem. VirES is a web-based data retrieval and visualisation tool where the majority of Swarm products are available. VirES has a graphical interface but also a machine-to-machine interface (API) for programmable use (a Python client is provided). The VirES API also provides access to geomagnetic ground observatory data, as well as forwards evaluation of geomagnetic field models to give data-model residuals. The "Virtual Research Environment" (VRE) adds utility to VirES with a free cloud-based JupyterLab interface allowing scientists to immediately program their own analysis of Swarm products using the Python ecosystem. We are augmenting this with a suite of Jupyter notebooks and dashboards, each targeting a specific use case, and seek community involvement to grow this resource.</p><p>[1] https://vires.services</p>

This paper examines the implications of various agreements of WTO on Indian software industry. It also analyses recent developments in Indian software sector and provides new strategic options for the Industry. The study observes that the WTO agreements like GATT, GATS, TRIPS and IT will have profound implications on the software industry. It suggests that the robust growth of software industry during the last six years lies in many uneven patterns. Hence Indian companies need to supply patented software, provide high value solutions, expand their product portfolio to new destinations, and build Indian multinationals to negate the impact ofg lobal downturn and to reap the benefits of globalisation promoted by WTO.

Subsequent development and implantation of embryo outside the uterine lining are defined as an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies have a wide range of presentations, for example, acute hemoperitoneum to chronic ectopic pregnancy. The case presented is an unusual case of ectopic pregnancy with large hematosalpinx with classic symptoms. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this case is the largest intact tubal ectopic pregnancy reported ever in the 14th week of gestation. A 40-year-old patient presented to the emergency department with lower abdominal pain, mild dysuria, and loose motion. The patient’s previous menstrual cycles were regular till four months ago, then started to be irregular, and she had no history of chronic diseases except repeated pelvic inflammatory diseases (PID). Clinically, the patient was hemodynamically stable. On palpation, the abdomen was tender, and cervical movements were not tender. BHCG in the blood came very high. The bedside point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) showed free fluid in the abdomen and a sac in the left adnexa with a living fetus (visible heartbeats). The conventional ultrasound showed 14 weeks of an extrauterine gestational sac with visible early pregnancy. Differential diagnosis was either an abdominal pregnancy versus a complicated tubal pregnancy. The surgical pathology report confirmed the diagnosis of ectopic tubal pregnancy as the tube was dilated in the middle portion containing chorionic villi, decidual reaction, and the whole gestational sac consistent with the ectopic tubal pregnancy. The patient had a successful laparotomy with salpingectomy and hemostasis and did well after the operation. So, an intact ectopic tubal pregnancy may last until the 14th week of gestation.

Superovulatory treatments for ewes are normally preceded by a period of priming. In a recent study involving two contrasting levels of feeding (0.6 versus 2.4 x maintenance), McEvoy et al (1993) observed that the higher level of feeding suppressed pre-ovulatory plasma progesterone concentrations and the subsequent early development and viability of fertilized ova. This finding suggests that there is a need to reconsider the recommendation, based on data for spontaneously-ovulating ewes, that ‘superovulated embryo donor ewes’ should be maintained on a high level of feeding during the period of oocyte maturation. It also raises questions regarding the form of the relationship between food intake and plasma progesterone concentrations over the wide range of feeding levels that occur in practice. The aims of the present study were therefore two-fold; firstly, to investigate the relationship between level of feeding and plasma progesterone for feed intakes that ranged from 0.6 x maintenance (M) to 2.4 M and secondly to assess the effect of pre-ovulatory feeding levels on the number, quality and viability of ova produced following superovulation.

The flare star EV Lac shows a wide variety of activity phenomena on a wide range of time scales. These are the well-known “classical” solar-like flares, the short-time flare events (Gershberg & Petrov 1986, Karapetian & Zalinian 1991, Tovmassian & Zalinian 1988, Tsvetkov et al. 1986, Zhilyaev 1994), and the long-duration variations caused by starspots and rotation (Petterson 1980). However, the “classical” flares are not such a frequent phenomenon as one gets used to think. As noted by Roizman & Kabitchev (1985), a considerable fraction of flares shows a complicated multipeak structure with sudden onset and decay. Their interpretation along the lines of classical models favored for solar-like flares is very problematic.Here, we report the detection of high-frequency chaotic variability (flickering) in EV Lac. Optical flickering is observed in cataclysmic binaries, and in X-rays it is observed in low-mass X-ray binaries. As a rule, flickering is an accretion phenomenon. Strange as it may seem, EV Lac as a visual binary has the analogous property.

From 2006 to 2008 depending on the power ratings, Deutz has to update its complete engine product portfolio of compact engines to meet the emission legislation U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU COM 3A for applications of mobile nonroad machinery. This challenge covers air cooled, oil cooled and as well water cooled engines up to 500 kW. To provide the best solution for the customer with respect to engine price, fuel consumption, power rating and torque characteristics. Deutz will introduce a technology concept called DEVERT® — Deutz Variable Emissions Reduction Technology. In the wide range of industrial applications of construction machinery, agriculture, material handling, and others DEVERT® provides an optimised solution for every case. The technology approach of DEVERT® consists of injection systems like the mechanical unit pump system and the Deutz Common Rail (DCR®), 2 and 4 valve cylinder-heads, different solutions for internal and external exhaust gas recirculation, and also variable valve actuation. The focus of this paper is on the water-cooled, in-line engine families 2012 and 2013 with a displacement of 4 to 7 l. Based on the application of DEVERT® to these engine families the different technologies are explained by their functionality and their impact on emissions and performance. A short outlook of the emission legislation on future technologies is given. Here exhaust after-treatment will have a significant impact on the engine package with new challenges for the variety of applications.

Salespeople play a crucial role in their firms’ efforts to provide customer solutions. However, little research has examined how salesperson involvement in customer solutions can be conceptualized, whether it pays off, and what boundary conditions might heighten its performance effects. This study addresses these gaps and offers a conceptualization of salesperson solution involvement by focusing on the set of salesperson-related activities that enact the four relational processes inherent in customer solutions. The authors collect a unique data set that includes a wide range of firms, industries, and countries, as well as the perspectives of both salespeople and customers, across five studies. Results validate the stability of the conceptualization across contexts. They also reveal that salesperson solution involvement is systematically related to increases in both subjective and objective, time-lagged measures of sales performance. Finally, results show that the performance effects of salesperson solution involvement are amplified under higher levels of firm's product portfolio scope, sales unit cross-functional cooperation, and customer–supplier relationship tie strength. Surprisingly, customer adaptiveness is not found to moderate the performance effects of salesperson solution involvement.
