Relationships Between Emotional Intelligence, Leadership Style, and School Culture

Research regarding the association between emotional intelligence, leadership style and organizational culture has been inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to explore these relationships in elementary school settings. A non-experimental ex post facto research design was utilized to investigate four research hypotheses. Fifty-seven principals and 850 teachers within a large urban school district in southeast Florida were surveyed. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed positive associations between school culture and both transformational and transactional leadership, and negative associations between school culture and passive-avoidant leadership. Significant positive associations were found also between school culture and the principals' emotional intelligence after controlling for leadership style. The hierarchical linear regressions revealed significant associations between leadership style and school culture after controlling for school grade as well. The results suggest that emotional intelligence merits consideration in the development of leadership theory. Practical implications include suggestions that principals employ both transformational and transactional leadership strategies, and focus on developing their level of emotional intelligence. The associations between emotional intelligence, transformational leadership, contingent reward and school culture found in this study validate the role of the principal as the leader of school reform.

<p>The purpose of the study is to examine the role of transformational and transactional leadership to the employees' work engagement. Transformational leadership is defined as a leadership style that involves interaction between the leader and follower, and mutually enhance each other into higher degree of morality and motivation. Transactional leadership is defined as leadership style that occurs when the leader gives reward or discipline to the followers. Work engagement is defined as positive mental state, selffulfillment, and related to work that is characterized with vigor, dedication, and absorption. The research involves 105 employees that work in "X" University in Western Jakarta, using convenient sampling technique. The moderation effect of organizational culture has also been examined. The quantitative approach has been used in data collection, and 182 sample responses have been gathered from the banking industry employees of Pakistan. The data has been analyzed by employing PLS-SEM. The results have shown that transformational and transactional leadership positively and insignificant affect workplace diversity. However, emotional intelligence has a positive and significant effect on workplace diversity. Besides, organizational culture has a positive and significant moderation effect between transactional leadership and workplace diversity. The organizational culture has a negative but insignificant moderation effect between transformational leadership and workplace diversity. The organizational culture has a negative but insignificant moderation effect between emotional intelligence and diversity. Managers are recommended to ensure transparency when identifying roles and expectations of the task amongst employees. Secondly, establish reward systems upon effective outcomes. Thirdly, state the punishments with utmost clarity.

The performance of teachers is one of the success factors of the school. Advance and retreat of school are determined by the performance of individual teachers in the school. In improving the teacher’s performance, it takes the role of the principal is using his leadership style. Principal’s who use the democratic leadership style is open so that it can improve the performance of teachers and the achievement of objectives together. The principal’s democratic leadership style is thought to influence the teacher’s performance. This study aims to determine the effect of the influence of the principal’s democratic leadership style on the teacher’s performance of PAUD in Anyar, Serang-Banten. This research uses the Ex Post Facto method. Data collection techniques for variables the principal's democratic leadership style and teacher performance of PAUD using a questionnaire (questionnaire), which is given to 17 teacher respondents in Anyar, Serang-Banten Data analysis technique using product moment Pearson correlation analysis, Based on the results of research shows the correlation coefficient between variables the principal democratic leadership style on teacher performance of 0.627 means there is an influence between the influence principal's democratic leadership on the teachers performance of PAUD Anyar, Serang-Banten.

This research is carried out to examine the influences of blue ocean leadership styles on emotional intelligence. A stratified random sampling technique is used to identify the sample for this study. Questionnaire is distributed to 120 middle to top level leaders from the selected government link companies (GLCs) which is listed in the Government Link Transformation Programme (GLTP). A partial least square structural model (PLS-SEM) approach is used to analyses the data for this study. The findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between blue ocean leadership style and emotional intelligence. This study would give practical implications where it could inform leaders that they need to have high emotional intelligence in order to lead the organization. This study also contributes to new knowledge by pointing to the leadership role of accurate attributions, where each attribution can lead to enhancing leader effectiveness.

A poor emotional intelligence and lack of transformational leadership application by the leader will affect company’s teamwork effectivity. The weak of teamwork effectivity will affect company’s success that will obstruct company improvement. This research aims to determine the role of transformational leadership style  in mediating emotional intelligence on teamwork effectivity. This reseachwas conducted at PT. Surticon Buana Perkasa Denpasar, which has 52 employees. Data collection was obtained from questionnairs and analyzed by classical assumption test, pathway analysis, Sobel test, and VAF test. The results showed that emotional intelligence has positive and significant effect on transformational leadership style and teamwork effectivity,  transformational leadership style has positive and significant effect on teamwork effectivity, and emotional intelligence has positive and significant effect on teamwork effectivity by transformational leadership style mediated. The growing global need for social cohesion and sustainable development gives visibility to cooperatives because their principles help to achieve these objectives and the adoption of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among them, gender equality policies are in the forefront. This paper explains how cooperatives contribute to women’s professional opportunities and to balancing the presence of women in management positions. It analyzes the predominant leadership styles and gender differences in cooperatives with a sample of 114 cooperative firms. The results show that: (a) Both transformational and transactional leadership styles are widely used; (b) no significant differences in leadership styles between men and women exist; and (c) the composition of management teams results in significant leadership style differences. The transformational style is less often used in mixed teams with a male majority and a woman president, and most often used in homogeneous teams (made up of only men or only women). Transactional leadership is more frequently implemented in teams made up only of women than in mixed masculine teams with a female president. These findings identify women’s leadership styles in cooperatives, pointing out their difficulties and introducing innovative proposals for contributing to their success and the achievement of SDGs in cooperatives.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify processes which may contribute to followers’ positive reactions to change. By focusing on the relationship between change antecedents and explicit reactions, the authors investigate the direct and indirect relationships between leadership styles (transformational and transactional) and followers’ appraisal of change through manager engagement. Design/methodology/approach – Using data from a longitudinal survey among 351 followers in two Danish organizations, the study tracked the planned implementation of team organization at two different times. Data were analyzed using structural equation modelling. Findings – Transformational and transactional leadership styles were positively related to the engagement of managers. Managers’ engagement was associated with followers’ appraisal of change. The two leadership styles also had a direct, long-term effect on followers’ change appraisal; positive for transformational leadership and negative for transactional leadership. Practical implications – The results have potential implications for change management, as followers’ change appraisal may be improved by developing managers’ leadership style and engagement. Originality/value – This is the first study to provide longitudinal evidence of the direct and indirect effects of leadership styles on followers’ change appraisal.
